A pair of fun pictures of lovely Yanellis, from our photoshoot at Lunatic Lens Studio on 6/1/22.

Alien Bees DigiBee800 camera right with a 24"x32" gridded Chimera softbox, main light, camera right. DigiBee800 fired into medium non-gridded Chimera strip bank, fill light, camera left. I used a 3:1 lighting ratio. Rim light behind Yanellis and to her left was an Alien Bees B1600 fired into a gridded 12"x72" Westcott strip bank. Rim light behind Yanellis and to her right was an Alien Bees B1600 with a warm blue gel and a neutral blue gel on barn doors with a 20° grid. The rim lights were set to about 1 stop brighter than the main light. All triggered with Pocket Wizards.

“I believe that… my first successes in my out-of-focus pictures were a fluke. That is to say, that when focusing and coming to something which, to my eye, was very beautiful, I stopped there instead of screwing on the lens to the more definite focus which all other photographers insist upon… ” – Julia Margaret Cameron

My first shoot with an adult model.

Very enjoyable, but massively challenging and a HUGE learning curve. Already I'm thinking of all the add ons I need kit wise.

First new self-portrait age almost 71, since May of 2020, almost a year ago. Shot in the studio.

Taken at PhotoPro Expo held in the Convention Center of Covington, Kentucky.

Don't ask why I stuck this spiny seed pod in my mouth, I won't do it again. It reminded me of all the miniture grotesque figures in the right panel of Bosch's "Garden of Earthly Delights. Shot in the studio.

the hand on the necklace was my idea ;)

Plus a dash of minor league smugerry.

Taken during a temporary studio shoot put on by the Cincinnati Camera and Photography Club Meetup Group held at the Fernald Nature Preserve near Ross, Ohio just outside of Cincinnati.

Our group set up four different temporary studios where we took turns shooting a group of around 12 cosplayers in a variety of costumes. We are very fortunate to have such a great and active Meetup group in the Cincinnati area as well as so many willing subjects to shoot.

strobist: one sb800 in softlighter, camera left, one sb600 in softlighter camera right, two stops below the left one...sb800 in snoot, directly behind and pointed at backdrop. fired with nikon cls.

Here I applied a black and white processing that enhanced the details of the face...it really make a strong expression. This has been combined with the use of a wide aperture (f/1.4) that create a very small neat area when focusing...
