A first attempt at a “studio” portrait. Have been experimenting a bit with a “studio” lighting setup, consisting of nothing more than one off-camera flash (with a small softbox) and a black piece of cloth (fleece) as a background. I was after this moody, sparsely lit portrait look (it’s that time of the year after all 😉). Luckily, my daughter had a very short “moody” moment after having given me lots of funny faces... Processed the RAW file in Capture One, trying to acquire moderate contrast, subtle toning, and a bit of fade in the shadows. Any comments, tips, or tricks?

Alien Bees DigiBee800 camera right with a 24"x32" gridded Chimera softbox, main light, camera right. DigiBee800 fired into medium non-gridded Chimera strip bank, fill light, camera left. I used a 3:1 lighting ratio. Rim light behind Yanellis and to her left was an Alien Bees B1600 fired into a gridded 12"x72" Westcott strip bank. Rim light behind Yanellis and to her right was an Alien Bees B1600 with a warm blue gel and a neutral blue gel on barn doors with a 20° grid. The rim lights were set to about 1 stop brighter than the main light. All triggered with Pocket Wizards.

“I believe that… my first successes in my out-of-focus pictures were a fluke. That is to say, that when focusing and coming to something which, to my eye, was very beautiful, I stopped there instead of screwing on the lens to the more definite focus which all other photographers insist upon… ” – Julia Margaret Cameron

My first shoot with an adult model.

Very enjoyable, but massively challenging and a HUGE learning curve. Already I'm thinking of all the add ons I need kit wise.

First new self-portrait age almost 71, since May of 2020, almost a year ago. Shot in the studio.

Taken at PhotoPro Expo held in the Convention Center of Covington, Kentucky.

Don't ask why I stuck this spiny seed pod in my mouth, I won't do it again. It reminded me of all the miniture grotesque figures in the right panel of Bosch's "Garden of Earthly Delights. Shot in the studio.

(RCOD 273-51 - 39410-03) The Clash, pictured here in 1976, are from left to right, Mick Jones (guitar), Paul Simonon (bass) and Joe Strummer (vocals). At the forefront of the explosive punk movement in the late 1970's, the Clash created a fresh and energetic sound that expressed the anger and depression of Britain at the time. Their music was charged with left-wing political ideology, that they combined with strong tuneful melodies to win them numerous chart successes on both sides of the Altantic. The band stayed together longer than most, but when the superb songwriting partnership of Joe Strummer and Mick Jones began to disintegrate because of disagreement, the band made a rapid decline and officially split in 1986. **HIGHER RATES APPLY** © Caroline Coon / Camera Press / Retna Ltd.

the hand on the necklace was my idea ;)

Plus a dash of minor league smugerry.

Taken during a temporary studio shoot put on by the Cincinnati Camera and Photography Club Meetup Group held at the Fernald Nature Preserve near Ross, Ohio just outside of Cincinnati.

Our group set up four different temporary studios where we took turns shooting a group of around 12 cosplayers in a variety of costumes. We are very fortunate to have such a great and active Meetup group in the Cincinnati area as well as so many willing subjects to shoot.
