Philadelphia - January 1, 2016

The Mummers' strutted along Broad Street once again in Philadelphia's New Year's Parade. A group of approximately 35 members of the local Black Lives Matter activists voiced their opinions at certain locations along the parade route.

The Black LIves Matter protest was relatively peaceful, with vulgar chants directed at the police. Two members were arrested for attempting to disrupt the parade as they attempted to block the parade route.

July 6: Buenos Aires

Our final concerts of the tour took place in the legendary capital of Argentina, Buenos Aires. The name Argentina originates from the Latin word for silver “argentum”, as the country is rich in silver and was referred to in the early 17th century as “Tierra Argentina”. Argentina gained its independence from Spain in 1816, and has had a turbulent political history, right up to the present. Because of its long north-to-south dimension (2800 miles) it possesses numerous types of geography and climates, like its neighbor Chile to the west.

Buenos Aires is the country’s largest city, founded in 1536 by Spanish explorers. It is located on the Atlantic coast, in the central Pampas region, at the mouth of the Rio de la Plata. A huge number of immigrants over the centuries, from a multitude of countries, have brought strong cultural influences. Buenos Aires, at first glance, looks like Paris or London or even New York, more so than any city we visited. It was easy for a New Yorker to feel at home here.

Argentina has a long tradition of classical music, with opera houses and concert halls in all the major cities. Buenos Aires is virtually the last great capital of music in which the Emerson Quartet had not appeared. Besides the famous concert hall, the Teatro Colón, (in which we hope to play next time), Buenos Aires is the birthplace of Daniel Barenboim, Alberto Ginastera, and Martha Argerich.

I made several to practice..I can't tell which one I'm actually sending to my partner!!

This Rock Pigeon (Columba livia) shows a common foot injury for urban pigeons. The foot injury could have been due to disease or injuries resulting from string or threads tangling around the toes and feet, cutting off circulation. Eventually the entangled part of the toe or foot dies and falls off, with the injury leaving the birds open to a secondary infection as well. Even for pigeons, city life is not easy. A stunning Everglades wildflower.

An exercise in frustration.... not user friendly to string up. I shimmed it to help out. The Fender EXII it was originally designed for has much more space between the nut and first set of tuning posts making it somewhat easier. Good thing I'm not a chronic string changer.

This is my first design ... Life! You are born, you are the center of all attention with mom, dads and siblings. As you grow older the friends fill in behind with more friends in the front. Finally you reach the end of the string and all remains is a few friends and many memories. Auto Tagged By Tagnics

String of balloons extending into the air. Each balloon had a small bell attached that would jingle in the wind and create this ambient sound of bells disappearing into the sky,

At the business function I was at tonight, I thought it was quite unfortunate that the din in the room was incredibly loud. It was impossible to hear any of the music this quartet was performing.
