This is a string art piece that I like to call Lovebirds. It also has a moving heart ...literally :)

It's made for the ones who can lift us up with their love.

The birds and the heart are made of nails and strings, while the rest of it is painted by hand, using acrylics.

All of my artwork is handmade and available at www.thestringartstudio.etsy.com.

I'm a big fan of themes that strain the mind. Why is the string attacking the lemon? Why are we treating string and lemons as animate things? Who will win this fight? Where are my pants?!

I will be exploring this theme, juxtaposing random household items, insects, amphibians, fruit/veggies, lumps of half-eaten chocolate, socks, landmarks, leather goods, dust bunnies, etc, just for the sake of putting two objects together. I'll leave the meaning-finding up to the observers (suckers).

I'm not sure if the page curl at the top LHS "works". I keep wanting to grab some tape and fix it.

String Light with photoshop help. To me, it looked like a heart...don't know how it happened.

This woman has a string of prairie turnips (Psoralea esculenta). Indian women and children gathered wild vegetables and fruits from the prairies. If not eaten fresh, the vegetables and fruits were dried and stored for winter use.

This is what the string looks like close up. Bought them off a bulk reel at the MEC years ago, red is a tight tubular braid, orange is parachute cord - loose synthetic tubular braid with twisted cotton core, taupe is a flat synthetic tubular braid similar to boot lace.

The Vif String Quartet is an Edmonton-based string ensemble that loves to make music together and share it with others. We take our name from the French word for bright, lively or vibrant – a term that captures our attitude and approach to music-making.

Members of the quartet perform regularly with the Edmonton Symphony Orchestra, Alberta Baroque Ensemble and other ensembles, and have music degrees from the University of Alberta, Schulich School of Music at McGill University, and the Eastman School of Music at the University of Rochester.

Eris in her temporary new home. (Temporary because we discovered that the loft room was way too cold, even after we went out and bought an electric heater for it.) Please excuse the horrible Ikea sofa bed.

It feels like this one has been done before, but it looked pretty so I rendered it.

Alex LaPella works to string a drum. The drum has a wheel-thrown, stoneware body decorated with hand-carved stamps and is strung with a goat skin head. The sound closely resembles a djembe, but the clay body provides a greater resonance.
