I seem to have taken a sudden interest in photographing my houseplants recently. I neglect them terribly, but they keep growing despite me.
This one was left to me by the owners of my previous flat, in Bruntsfield (Edinburgh), as a housewarming gift. It's also known as a "rosary plant" because of its long wiry stems with leaves at regular intervals. The flowers are incredible, but it has only bloomed a few times since I've had it. I think I'll move it to the livingroom....

Felix the Cat is a cartoon character created in the silent film era. His black body, white eyes, and giant grin, coupled with the surrealism of the situations in which his cartoons place him, combine to make Felix one of the most recognized cartoon characters in film history. Felix was the first character from animation to attain a level of popularity sufficient to draw movie audiences. (Source: Wikipedia)

My sister is opening another music school and I've promised to take some violin pictures to be hanged on the wall. Hopefully this set of pictures is good enough. :)
Mini Scrap Basket Swap- 2 down, 19 more to go!
Blogged here sew-unsew.blogspot.com/2011/12/back-in-saddle.html
As part of a swap with Danielle, I sewed up a couple of blocks for one of her quilting bee quilts. It was so nice to use up some scraps. It's also nice to contribute to a quilt w/o having to baste, quilt, or bind it. Very little commitment!

The Alaska String Band is a concert group comprised of members of a single family performing with guitar, twin fiddles, bass, mandolin, ukulele, percussion and vocals.
The repertoire consists of a lively collection of bluegrass, old time, gospel, swing, dawg, blues, Celtic and original music. Many songs they play are often requested favorites. Also featured are beautiful waltzes, airs and haunting melodies graced with vocal blends heard only in single family arrangements.
Audiences delight in the youthful exuberance of this family which exhibits extraordinary musicianship, technical skill and interpretative ability. Energetic dancing and attractive costumes designed to reflect the spirit of Alaskan artistic lifestyle, culture and traditions lend excitement and a dramatic flare to their shows.

Balls of string and thread. The guys sitting next to this little batch were making ornaments with beads and string - tassels, little necklaces, and so on.

Shelton Energy Solutions, a Limited Liability Company subcontractor that is hired by Entergy of Mississippi is stringing up color-coded cords that will be used to pull up the new aluminum electrical power cables through the pulleys that are positioned on the second crossarms.
The colors of the strings are coordinated with each phase line and by the colors of each line from what I could tell appears to be orange, blue, and red for the primary phase electrical power lines while the yellow line is for the new ground / neutral wire to which it is apparently going to replace the old neutral wire and the new lines will then be placed and tied onto the insulators.
This is a part of Entergy of Mississippi's project to replace the old wooden poles on this line with taller ones as well as installing a second set of three-phase electrical power lines or a second circuit as the crew calls it, delivering more electrical power to the ever growing Rex Lumber Company Mill which was drawing way more power than the current grid could handle and with a newer transformer installed over at the nearby Brookhaven Substation, the Rex Lumber Company Mill can operate more efficiently without putting too much strain on the rest of the system.
This project is being done by a subcontractor called Shelton Energy Solutions... a Limited Liability Company (LLC) that is based in Alexandria, Louisiana.
