There was no access up the South St.Vrain Canyon before the Twentieth Century. The main road to Riverside was up Little Jim Creek from Jamestown to Gresham gold camp. This view is of the construction of the first Raymond store above where Riverside Drive up from Lyons and over from Gresham meet then cross the Middle Fork of the South St.Vrain. The date is 1919 after the first auto road alignment up the hill to the left was put through to Allenspark. Finally, tourists and their gas buggies could finally ascend the hill climb north from Raymond and on to Allenspark and eventually Estes Park. No longer did they need to have horses drag their flivver up the old wagon road. The road up the Middle Fork up to Peaceful Valley Resort area and the camps above sneaks out of the frame to the right.
The log walls are on the way up. A hereford cow and calf are enjoying lunch across the road in front of the construction site. There is a fence that borders the road in front of the cabin so perhaps the cattle escaped. The pasture was actually for the stage stop that was up the slope to the left. An early touring car is parked across the river to the right. Perhaps a fisherman is drowning a worm over there. Above and to the right of the construction is the Matlack's "Wren's Nest" cabin which has the appearance of having been there a while. Jim Matlack became the publisher of the Longmont Daily Times Call newspaper. Jim Matlack was the author of the Miller Rock Legend that some believe is gospel. You decide:
The old Moneta Produce Store, in what is now effectively a ghost town since VA-122 was rerouted to a bridge over the railroad tracks sometime in the late 1990s.
This particular building featured as the store in the movie "What About Bob?", indeed the peeling red paint is probably the same paint used to dress the building up for shooting of the movie almost two decades ago.
After the railway overpass was built, the road through here was closed entirely, removing the level crossing and any reason for most people to be on this road at all.
Within a few hundred yards of here is the newly contructed Downtown Moneta. It's possible that the area just behind where I stood will be reinvigorated by this, but with the railway tracks cutting it off, the old red store might as well be a hundred miles away from the new development.

Got this at a really cool pet store. They had a big sale table. The bag was $15 and the plate was $2. I think I'll give the plate to my little sister who used to have a Boston, unless this makes her too sad then I'll keep it.
Green's Store in the Williams Community in Calhoun County. I shot this with a older Nikon 20mm 2.8 AIS lens. Compared to the newer lenses it seems to be a bit warmer, has a bit more flare on the highlights and is the most "film like" lens I've shot with in a long time.
About an hour or so after the doors opened. There was still a line of about 50 people behind me waiting to get in.
My store. It is located inside a courtyard belonging to an original general store from the early 19th century. Now a museum/restaurant. It is called "La Protegida".
There are other stores selling art, antiques, crafts, and "gaucho" clothing. It is SO cool.
This place is located in a rural town called Navarro about 100 kms. from the city of Buenos Aires. Worth visiting if you are in the area!

There is one current business, and a couple of the apartments on the other end are rented out. The rest is just storage, or empty.
Would make a neat railroad inn, where you sit on the balcony, watching the trains go by.
I had to go to the apple store for the iPhone after owning it only 3 days. There was a funny problem with the hardware in that sound did not come out of the right place at the right time. So while waiting, I thought how fun the light was in the store with the huge glass ceiling. And then I noticed how dirty it was.
