A model that's been stopped and started more times than I care to remember, shouted at, swore at and on one occasion launched across the kitchen! When Lancashire United was still independent from GMPTE an order was allegedly placed for Bristol VR's as the waiting time for Fleetlines was an age. Certainly photos exist of VR chassis parked at Atherton depot awaiting delivery to Northern Counties have been seen but mystery surrounds whether they were for LUT or not. In the meantime GMT took the operation over and being a bigger fleet with more power with the builders, ninety Fleetlines were ordered for the LUT subsidiary.
If the order had materialised they would probably have looked similar to Readings, however if GMT had stuck with the VR a little bit of Standard influence may have been brought into play. This is my take on what they could have looked like if delivered with a GMT preferred 'bustle' as opposed to a fully enclosed rear. This was initially to have stayed LUT red as per the EFE issue but as I couldn't match the red perfectly [I now have about a dozen tins of varying shades of red paint!] a full strip to bare metal was required and a coat of PTE orange applied in the LUT style.

Resplendent in Black Livery Standard 3 Tank 82036 is stabled at an unidentified location in the 1950's probably in the North Wales area. The loco finished its short life at Bristol Barrow Road (82E) where it was allocated from November 1962 until withdrawal in July 1965. Barrow Road was probably the shed that had the most of the class allocated at sometime in the 1960's, 82001/03/06/07/09/30/33/35-40/42/43/44.

On 20 September 1961 Standard 77011 arrives at Bellingham Station in the NE with the thrice-weekly pick up freight. This small class of Standards numbered only twenty, all of which went for scrap. There were hopes that the last member of the class, 77014, which was surprisingly allocated to the SR in 1966 might end up at Barry, but it was not to be. The loco was cut up at the Newport Scrapyard at Birds, Risca. The new build of Standard 3 Tank 82045 could mean that at some time in the future, a new member of the class may be constructed.

Latterly with the Lancashire United Transport Society, 1978 built Fleetline 511, or 6927 as it will become, is now the second money draining pit in the collection. I question my sanity at times, I really do!
This facelift on the previous Vanguard was done by Vignale and IMO was very successful.

Someone once told me it was a swine to get paint of an EFE model... This one wasn't too bad, perhaps these days its cheaper stuff!
Its well known that this casting isn't great but its not until you strip it down that you really see how bad it is. The most obvious one (aside from it being horrendously out of proportion) is that it's cockide... The top nearside slopes in a lot further than the other side and the top of the windscreen runs up the way slightly as well..! Ahh well, more work to sort before a coat of paint!
BTW, does anyone have any tips as the best way to remove the wheels off an EFE model without breaking them?
Aah, memories! A former Greater Manchester Transport, but new to Lancashire United, Leyland Fleetline seen in Oldham bus station on the 562 service from Halifax.
At deregulation, GM Buses declined to take on many buses as they needed a smaller fleet. Meanwhile Yorkshire Rider declined to take on the leases of several of their newer buses - mostly Olympians. The result? Yorkshire Rider bought around 70 - 80 buses which weren't required by GM Buses. The fleetlines were allocated to Halifax and were often seen on the Trans Pennine services to Oldham (Rochdale was mostly served by newer olympians from Todmorden deport).
Outside the GMT/GMB liveries, this is probably my favourite livery to be applied to a GM standard and would dearly love to see one return to this livery.........
