I believe this was the previous days train 224 that was held at East Creston. A crossing was bring replaced at Orrville, Ohio and the job must not have made to the work zone before an OOS was handed down. We discovered it there crew less in the early morning hours and continued our day with a 712. Finishing up with 712 at Akron, we took a quick drive back to to Creston in the afternoon hoping to see a crew boarding, and yielded just that! The chase was on!

The Standard 8 and 10 were introduced as a rival to the Austin A30 and Morris Minor. With three bearing engines, coil independant front suspension and a hypoid rear end.

The 10 is a larger engined version of the Standard 8 but with a plated grille instead of the bomb crater style, drop windows and external boot access. Phase II from 1957 have plated side trim and were available with optional two pedal Standrive, and/or with overdrive.

Looking back through some old pictures, we see CSX Q640, a Cumberland, Maryland to Buffalo, New York mixed freight, rolling east through Perry, Ohio with a standard cab C40-8, CSX 7552, leading the way. Nine Standards Rigg takes its name from the line of cairns (the Nine Standards) which stand just north of the summit. Over a period of time they had fallen into disrepair, but in recent times they have been completely restored to the former glory. The origin of the Nine Standards is a mystery, one fanciful theory being that they were constructed by the Roman army to look like troops from a distance.
