Just another frame of this final surprise of last summer's trip.
Having bid goodbye to John down in Springfield Frank and I had one last night just us and a half a day left before departing home to opposite sides of the continent. Our last morning dawned clear and dry and as it would turn out the railfan gods had one final surprise in store for us. After a fun morning enjoying Santa Fe Junction for the last time and with only 90 minutes left on the clock we headed toward the West Bottoms. I still wanted a really nice morning lit shot along the UP and when we drove by I was astonished to see a standard cab leader on the point of an eastbound holding west of Hickory Street (CPK001) beside State Line Yard on Main 3 strung out across the Kansas River on the old Missouri Pacific bridge.
In short order the Knoche Yard bound transfer behind UP 1566 (EMD SD40-2 blt. Nov. 1976 as CNW 6928) and 1958 (EMD GP60 blt. Sep. 1989 as SSW 9656) got the light and they were underway across town on Union Pacific's KC Metro Sub .

70000 "Britannia" just about dodges the shadows on the approach to the Beambridge Inn, and working hard on the climb up Whiteball Bank, with the final "English Riviera Express" of the season - the 1Z60 05.53 Shrewsbury-Kingswear excursion. Intercity Swallow liveried 47828 brought up the rear.
The commemorative wreath adorning the front of the BR Standard was in recognition of Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth II's death on the 8th September, what a fitting tribute for the occasion - may she rest in peace.

Standard day up the S&C…..chase the steam around to no avail then fall on the evening loco-hauled as the cloud melts away!

It's damn cold in Seattle! Keep in mind that's by Seattle standards. The flip side of the that cold weather is the sun has been out the last couple of days.
All of this cold weather has got me dreaming of summer. How 'bout you?

Union Pacific's LSE57 local, based out of Lesperance St. Yard, rumbles south past Cliff Cave Park on Union Pacific's DeSoto Subdivision with it's usual electric combo of locomotives. The train will work a few areas before making its way to subdivisions name sake town of DeSoto Missouri. There the train will pick up and drop off cars at UP's car shop before returning to St. Louis.
Rounding out my very first visit to the Pittsburgh Line in 2016, a pair of NS SD70's lead a lengthy train of old steel Top Gons at Carneys Crossing. Man i wish i could relive this scene again.

After picking up three C40-8s at Keenan, Repainted IC SD40-3 6254 leads a six pack of standard cabs South through Forbes, MN on a rock train.

I believe this was the previous days train 224 that was held at East Creston. A crossing was bring replaced at Orrville, Ohio and the job must not have made to the work zone before an OOS was handed down. We discovered it there crew less in the early morning hours and continued our day with a 712. Finishing up with 712 at Akron, we took a quick drive back to to Creston in the afternoon hoping to see a crew boarding, and yielded just that! The chase was on!

A few random shots from a few locations we visited during our roadtrip through West Canada in the summer of 2019
Spend three weeks in the western part of Canada. We started in Calgary and ended our roadtrip in Vancouver.
Seen many NPs and regional parks, seen many of the known tourists spots but also a few lesser known spots.
This has been one of our most special holiday trips ever.
Canada is an amazing country. We like and love the many national park and regional parks we visited. Simply said nature in Canada is amazing.
But haven't seen everything, we both do want to go back someday
We took some of our analog gear with us. Decided to take one of our Canon Eos 1N and Canon Eos 3 cameras
Used the Eos 1N for color film and the Eos 3 for B/W film.
Also decided to take only film that could be developed with the standard C41 process
So that meant the Canon Eos 3 was loaded with Ilford XP2 Super 400
Developing these films was done at a Ld Photolab in Vancouver.
Didn't want to take undeveloped and exposed film with us back to the Netherlands, so was pleased that they would develop these films during the last day we stayed Vancouver before flying back home
Show car from 1955 based on a standard body with a classic Packard grille. It doesn't quite work with the horizontal lines of the rest of the car.
Fairly standard adventurer group for this rare Thursday post, but I quite like how these came out.

Locomotive: British Railways Standard Class 4MT 4-6-0 73014, re-numbered as Stoke allocated 75035.

The Moorlander 80136 arriving at Levisham Station from Pickering on the North Yorkshire Moors Railway.
80136 (BR Standard 4 Tank 2-6-4T) was built in Brighton in 1956, and initially assigned to Plaistow and working the Tilbury line. In 1962 a change in scenery beckoned and she left for Shrewsbury, and worked in Shropshire and Mid-Wales until her withdrawal in 1965, less than ten years after being built.

Standard cabs CN 2109 & CN 5470 (along with widecab CN 2668) lead a 510-axle CNX106 as it approaches MP 14 of CN's Kingston Sub.
BR Standard Class 4MT 80078 steams towards High Rocks Halt during a 30742 Charters event. This was a recreation of the type of train that worked on this route at the end of BR steam in the 1960s.

The Colosseum or Coliseum, also known as the Flavian Amphitheater is an elliptical amphitheater in the center of the city of Rome, Italy. Built of concrete and stone, it was the largest amphitheater of the Roman Empire, and is considered one of the greatest works of Roman architecture and engineering. It is the largest amphitheater in the world.
With most of the mainline trains handled by modern Wide Nose GEs and a sprinkling of EMD, the only place to reliably see the older standard cab EMDs are in the yards.
A pair of Union Pacific SD40N rebuilds on the Proviso Transfer were at the east end of Canadian Pacific's Bensenville yard on a sunny morning.
A pair of CP EMDs were shuffling some cars around, making a brief moment where the standard cab prevailed.
The Battle of Brandywine (September 11, 1777) featured more troops in combat than any other engagement of the Revolutionary War. Seeking to capture the American capital of Philadelphia, British General Sir William Howe led his forces north from their landing point in Maryland, and American General George Washington positioned his troops behind Brandywine Creek near Chadds Ford, Pennsylvania. The British and Hessian forces outflanked the Continentals—due in large part to the efforts of the seasoned Hessian Jägerkorps—and attacked from the rear. Units under the command of Generals Nathanael Greene and Casimir Pulaski provided enough cover for Washington to retreat, but the way to Philadelphia was left open, allowing Howe to take the city two weeks later.

Got an itch to try my hand at decals again, with these basically being recolored versions of Hound Knight's designs. I was unhappy with my last attempt at Hessian Jäger uniforms, since the standard LEGO green was much too bright and Jäger typically did not button their jackets. Overall, I really like both of these figs, especially with the added cuffs (paper) and shoes (electrical tape).

There are pictures that we have seen a thousand times. Coloseum, anyone?
Maybe there is only a possible vintage point, or maybe we're just conformists? The fact is, when you're there, you cannot - not take the pic. But, why? What is the motivation?
My take is to treat it like Jazz standards. It can be a show-off of technical prowess or a slight variant on the theme.
Anyway, this is my take For you to judge.
