I was told by a relative once that every guitarist needs a Strat, Tele, and Les Paul. Well I’m not a huge Strat fan but I do like Teles and Les Pauls. A few years ago I found a 2009 Gibson Les Paul Standard Traditional on Craigslist. It looks a lot better than I play but I definitely enjoy it. It’s hard to put down. In case you’re wondering the traditionals are not chambered like the newer standards so they weigh about 9 to 10 lbs.
“Praise the Lord! Praise God in his sanctuary! Praise him in the sky, which testifies to his strength!
Praise him for his mighty acts! Praise him for his surpassing greatness! Praise him with the blast of the horn! Praise him with the lyre and the harp! Praise him with the tambourine and with dancing! Praise him with stringed instruments and the flute! Praise him with loud cymbals! Praise him with clanging cymbals! Let everything that has breath praise the Lord! Praise the Lord!” – Psalm 150:1-6

An ex-Conrail C40-8 standard cab leads this Sunday edition of 34N into Tolono at Dawn CP on the first leg of their run from Decatur to Conway.
These signals are positioned really weird, with the one for main being between the main and siding, so its really hard to get this angle right. But hey, its an ex-Conrail Dash8. I don't even know when the last time I shot one of those leading was!

You know, my folks have quite a few photos from years gone by, and I enjoy reminiscing over all of them. But this image.....
This service station was run by my great uncle Melvin Lance (gentleman on the far right), until he left home for World War II. This photo was taken in the late 1930's soon after the place opened. This is one of the most impressive gas stations that I have ever seen.

The good news is that DST (Daylight STANDARD TIME) has finally kicked back in.
I'm not a moron, and therefore, I reject anyone who dares call a period of 4 months of the year in darkness "Standard Time". No, that's just preposterous.
We're on NORMAL time and that's the way it should stay ALWAYS. You can debate me on that if you want but I'll humble you and make you feel silly.
I digress. Yes, I did compose this so the monument looked like it was blasting off.
Daylight Standard Time got off to a myeh start. Nice that sunrise was 7:22 instead of 6:22, but there was only about 2 minutes of color in the pre-dawn and though the clouds were a solid B, the color disappeared, never to return. Oh... and it was cold. REALLY cold. 18 degrees, cold... and breezy. But not too terrible thanks to handwarmers.
It feels creepy going into the District these days knowing the orange occupation is present. Don't know how often I'll do this, but at the same time, where I live, there's just nowhere else to photograph anything decent within a 35 minute drive, and I've long since given up that life of chasing weather and driving hours for poor weather. If I'm going to get a blah sunrise, I figure it's best it not cost me more than about $4 in gas.

Although the Class 55 Deltic locomotives were the popular showpieces of the East Coast Mainline InterCity services, the predominant haulage was by the less charismatic and far more numerous Class 47 locomotives. A versatile class that numbered a total of 512 units, many rail enthusiasts were unenamoured with the commonplace 47s, bestowing them with the derogatory nickname of ‘Duffs’. I had no quarrel with the breed, I liked their clean lines, and was happy to photograph this unidentified example heading an ECML express with perfect competence north of Potters Bar.

One from the Bluebell Railways Giants of Steam event last October, in the all too brief glimpse of sunlight that appeared first thing in the morning, not to reappear again until late evening after the last train. Too warm for any steam, but Standard 5MT No. 73082 Camelot still looked good in the early morning light with the first train of the day to East Grinstead.
After arriving with one of the most over-powered trains in preservation history, BR standard 9F no. 92134 stands at Leicester North with classmate no, 92214, 'City of Leicester', after arriving with the slightly delayed 16:00 service from Loughborough Central on Sunday 3rd October 2021 during the Great Central Railway's 2021 steam gala.

Saltley 9F 92136 heads north out of Bristol with 5M28 18.00 Bristol St Philips Yard to Water Orton freight on Saturday 26 September, 1964. Looking out from the cab are driver Gordon Shortman and fireman Mark Meeks. It was unusual for a freight turn to be given a reporting number, here seen in the centre above the buffer beam.

March's best spot so far. Note the period sun visor! The Standard 8 was a very plain and basic small car, but I'd be happy to have one in my garage (if I had one). Spotted out and about.
