On February 1, 2016, Manor College hosted a Stability Dialogue to talk about how Americans can help promote peace and stability in Ukraine. Honored guests and speakers included: Ohio Congresswoman, Marcy Kaptur, Ukrainian Rada Member, Andrey Artemenko, Ukrainian Businessman, Alex Rovt, former Deputy Secretary of Defense for NATO and expert on Russia and Ukraine, Bruce Weinrod, Chair of the Ukrainian Federation of America and former Pennsylvania Congressman, Curt Weldon. This event was open to the Manor College community and the greater Philadelphia Ukrainian community.

Housing activists marched to Gov. Charlie Baker’s home in Swampscott to demand that the Governor pledge to support and sign the Guaranteed Housing Stability Act (H.5018) to assure more robust protections against evictions and foreclosures during the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.
Protesters said the Massachusetts Legislature needs to back a comprehensive eviction prevention measure intended to help stabilize renters, homeowners and small landlords for a year as Massachusetts weathers the ongoing coronavirus pandemic crisis.
The bill would ensure tenants cannot be evicted because of missed rent if the nonpayment was because of COVID-19, giving them time to get owed rental payments and other assistance in place.
It would also prevent “no fault” evictions and rent increases for 12 months following the state of emergency, guard against foreclosure and strengthen forbearance protections, allowing homeowners and landlords with up to 15 units to pause their mortgage and put missed payments on the end of the loan.
The march was organized by the Homes for All Massachusetts coalition and the Massachusetts COVID-19 Response Alliance (MCRA).

Residents and community groups from Lynn gathered in front of Lynn City Hall to demand the state government enact legislation to protect against an expected wave of evictions and foreclosures related to the COVID-19 pandemic.
With Governor Baker’s temporary extension of the Massachusetts eviction and foreclosure moratorium, a wave of tens of thousands of evictions is now expected when the measure expires in the fall during what could be a second wave of the COVID-19 epidemic.
The rally focussed on the need to pass HD.5166 / S.2831, An Act to Guarantee Housing Stability during the COVID-19 Emergency & Recovery. The legislative session is expected to end July 31 and over 200 community, labor, and religious organizations have signed a letter to House Speaker Robert DeLeo, Senate President Karen Spilka, and Governor Charlie Baker urging them to pass the bill immediately.
Speakers at the Lynn event will also address the connection between housing policy and systemic racism, and the need for action at the local level to address the underlying crisis of housing unaffordability, eviction, and displacement.

Perspectives on Global Economic Developments: Achieving Growth with Financial Stability
This is a photo of affordable housing protesters who opposed the demolition of public housing units on the north side of Minneapolis in 1999. Over 1000 units of low-cost housing were torn down in a 73-acre site near the city’s downtown and warehouse districts between 1997 and 2002. During this time the region was facing a severe shortage of affordable housing. Advocates opposed the loss of the public housing units, among the most affordable units in the housing stock, and argued that the displacement of hundreds of low-income public housing families would put even greater strain on the housing market, making it more difficult for other low-income families to find affordable housing options.

The European Central Bank (ECB) is organising its sixth annual macroprudential policy and research conference, which will be organised in conjunction with a high-level policy forum marking the 20th anniversary of the ECB Financial Stability Review, taking place in the afternoon of Wednesday, 20 November 2024.
The conference aims to bring together academics, central bankers and interested market participants to present and discuss new research on financial stability and macro-finance topics of particular interest to central banks.

Protestors blocked the entrance to the Boston Housing Court to protest evictions, foreclosures and the resumption of eviction filings Massachusetts. The protesters chanted “shut it down,” as seven individuals locked arms in front of the court house entrance. A larger group of protesters in front of the court carried signs urging lawmakers to pass the Guaranteed Housing Stability Act which would extend a moratorium on evictions and foreclosures for a year after the state’s COVID-19 emergency declaration expires. A prior ban on evictions and foreclosures enacted by the legislature expired on October 17. The Boston Municipal Court is where the majority of the 40,0000 housing evictions every year in Massachusetts are processed.
