Title: Appeal to All the People of the World for Prayer to End Conflicts to Bring Peace and Love to All in Ethiopia and the Rest of Africa

By Prof. Ephraim Isaac

I: Introduction

A gentle and graceful call for all peace-loving humans to do at least a two-minute prayer of love, peace, and kindness for the millions of the suffering peoples of Ethiopia that has been going on sadly without end. The prayer will take place on Saturday June 19, 2021, from 10am-12am EST (New York Time) at the historic Abyssinian Baptist Church in New York. We shall pray for the cessation of all hostilities, mutual forgiveness, peace and love to all in Ethiopia including the rest of Africa and the rest of the world. Humanity as one community is what the world should value, not war, killings and endless conflicts.

The prayer is to stop the on-going killings in Ethiopia and it will take place in the Abyssinian Baptist Church in Harlem, New York physically but it will be held virtually globally calling all of you to join and pray to save all the people.

II: Ethiopia Deserves Peace, Stability and Unity

This current on-going killing must never take place in the Ethiopia that has given spiritual strength to all humanity. Ethiopia is an ancient African country and one of the first in the world to accept Judaism, Christianity, and Islam in their early days.

Just blocks from the new $412 million Target Field, areas of the North Loop remain blighted. Undoubtedly, redevelopment will occur, but as of now, it is still laced with disparity.

July 22, 2020. Lynn, MA.

Residents and community groups from Lynn gathered in front of Lynn City Hall to demand the state government enact legislation to protect against an expected wave of evictions and foreclosures related to the COVID-19 pandemic.

With Governor Baker’s temporary extension of the Massachusetts eviction and foreclosure moratorium, a wave of tens of thousands of evictions is now expected when the measure expires in the fall during what could be a second wave of the COVID-19 epidemic.

The rally focussed on the need to pass HD.5166 / S.2831, An Act to Guarantee Housing Stability during the COVID-19 Emergency & Recovery. The legislative session is expected to end July 31 and over 200 community, labor, and religious organizations have signed a letter to House Speaker Robert DeLeo, Senate President Karen Spilka, and Governor Charlie Baker urging them to pass the bill immediately.

Speakers at the Lynn event will also address the connection between housing policy and systemic racism, and the need for action at the local level to address the underlying crisis of housing unaffordability, eviction, and displacement.

The Dragon X20 provides stability, storage and rear seating area with extra storage. The X20 has a 500W Motor and 20AH battery. This will improve performance and range. In addition, this unit has more leg room and a foot brake for the rear wheels that gives you that extra stopping power. The X20 model provides economical transportation for getting around the city or country side and you can bring home your groceries too... The X20 is ideal as a short distance work vehicle for hauling tools or equipment around or assisting with landscaping.

This is a photo of affordable housing protesters who opposed the demolition of public housing units on the north side of Minneapolis in 1999. Over 1000 units of low-cost housing were torn down in a 73-acre site near the city’s downtown and warehouse districts between 1997 and 2002. During this time the region was facing a severe shortage of affordable housing. Advocates opposed the loss of the public housing units, among the most affordable units in the housing stock, and argued that the displacement of hundreds of low-income public housing families would put even greater strain on the housing market, making it more difficult for other low-income families to find affordable housing options.

Few trends in the solar energy space are as exciting as the possibilities offered by interconnected technologies. Whether it’s the coupling of solar PV arrays with battery storage for increased energy independence or the potential for blockchain to create a new market for clean energy, advances in technology keep taking solar power to the next level. As the efficiency, stability, and economic viability of solar installations continue to improve, new possibilities reveal themselves.

One growing subset of clean energy technology uses interconnected devices to monitor and manage the energy production and usage of entire buildings, making them more efficient and saving money as a result. These “smart buildings” offer a glimpse into a future in which energy generation and management are more accessible and customizable - where the power to control a building’s worth of devices fits in the palm of your hand.

The Internet of Things

What’s enabling this type of progress? The Internet of Things (IoT), which WIRED notes “is increasingly being used to define (any) objects that ‘talk’ to each other.” Encompassing devices from smartphones and remote speakers to small wearable technology like fitness bands and large smart appliances, the IoT is already reshaping the way we manage communication, health, and our homes and offices. These devices can interface with each other and with cloud-based applications or storage systems to do everything from adjusting the thermostat when we leave the house to alerting emergency personnel in the event of a heart attack or stroke.

Entrepreneur Ludovic Deblois writes in Medium that “in 2020, the Internet of Things should number 50 billion connected devices communicating with applications in the cloud, compared with ‘only’ 14 billion today. That will be an average of more than 7 objects per person on Earth…” In addition to communicating across interconnected devices to make our lives easier, these devices also collect and store massive amounts of data, which can help us eliminate waste and diagnose inefficiencies or potential dangers.

Beyond Green Buildings

The Internet of Things is also changing the way we think about the buildings in which we live and work. Nearly twenty-five years ago, the green building standard was developed to encourage sustainable, environmentally friendly, healthy building practices. The primary considerations set forward by the U.S. Green Building Council include “energy use, water use, indoor environmental quality, material selection and the building's effects on its site.” Now, IoT applications can help address many of the same issues, both when included in new construction and retrofitted to systems in older buildings.

Internet of Things devices can be used to connect various building systems from HVAC and ventilation to computer servers, lights, and alarm systems. These “smart” buildings or homes are then able to integrate and process information from each system to increase efficiency and reduce operating costs. When paired with green building practices, IoT can create incredibly low-impact facilities that use less energy and produce less waste than ever before. When applied to older buildings, IoT devices can address and mitigate many issues such as water management, energy efficiency, and air quality.

As GreenTechMedia recently explored, there are several converging trends that make IoT-connected smart buildings the smart choice for building managers and owners. These include the growing market for green buildings and the higher prices that they can demand from buyers or renters, the desire for high-tech spaces (in both residential and office buildings), and a “renewed focus on space utilization and space analytics.” Smart buildings satisfy all of these needs, and many facilities are recognizing that a “building retrofit can be funded by the future reductions in energy cost.”

Solar Power Meets the Internet of Things

What’s the next step for smart buildings and homes? Imagine a systems-integrated solar installation that can provide power to a building’s interconnected devices and store the excess for use when needed (or to be sold to a nearby facility or back to the utility company). These solutions are being actively developed by innovators such as those behind WISE Power technology, which “integrates smart devices through a vendor-neutral hub to facilitate home automation as well as building management through smart HVAC, electrical, and solar plus storage solutions.”

At Solar Design Studio, we’re excited to embrace the possibilities revealed through the interconnection of solar and other technology systems. Our decades of expertise in the rapidly-changing solar market have prepared us to integrate new technologies as we design solutions that prioritize effectiveness and ROI for our clients.

Climate change in Southeast Asia has been becoming a threat to agricultural production, food security, ecological stability, and sustainable development. Realizing the ongoing climate change issues, ASEAN Member States (AMS) together with international and national research agencies, and the private sector further continue working hand-in-hand to promote Climate-Smart Agriculture (CSA) practices to increase the resilience of the agriculture sector to the changing climate. From this background, the ASEAN Climate Resilience Network (ASEAN-CRN) Workshop on Promoting CSA Practices was held from 27-28 October 2015 at the Sheraton Hotel in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam. The two-day workshop served as way forward to promote the prioritized best CSA practices among AMS.

The workshop is led by the Thailand Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperatives (MOAC) through its Department of Agriculture (DOA) in its capacity as the current chair of the ASEAN-CRN, with the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (MARD) of Vietnam as host. The German-ASEAN Programme on Response to Climate Change (GAP-CC) – implemented by the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH in cooperation with the ASEAN Secretariat, provided support for this event, along with the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) of the United Nations.
