City Church Sankt Marien in Wittenberg

The City Church St. Marien Wittenberg is the civic church of the German town of Lutherstadt Wittenberg. The reformers Martin Luther and Johannes Bugenhagen preached there and the building also saw the first celebration of the mass in German rather than Latin and the first ever distribution of the bread and wine to the congregation - it is thus considered the mother-church of the Protestant Reformation.

The monumental sculpture by Jaume Plensa is an example of his artistic language. The strongly elongated head with closed eyes exudes an extraordinary calmness. The figure seems to withdraw from the outside world and look inward. This creates associations with silence, meditation, memory and inner perception.

Can I be ?

The struggle of the Black American population for greater civil rights.

Initially, these *Black Dada* paintings were, to me, merely abstract art.

Then I visited one of the *Blackboxes* in the museum to watch his black-and-white films.

There, I saw a protest group of Black Americans, filmed in a staccato, blurred style. I immediately made the association—seeing these Black people in white tops and dark trousers, bouncing excitedly within the group, fueled by the adrenaline of being pursued by the police and other white people.

Adam Pendleton (b. 1984) is an American conceptual artist known for his multidisciplinary practice, which encompasses painting, silkscreen, collage, video, performance, and text-based art. In his work, he frequently engages with the exploration of language and the recontextualization of history through the appropriation of imagery.

The artist divides his time between New York City and Germantown, New York.

His art has been exhibited at the Museum of Modern Art, the Whitney Museum, the New Museum, and in other international exhibitions, including the Triennale at the Palais de Tokyo in Paris. He has been named twice to *Forbes* magazine’s "30 Under 30" list.

In 2024, he received the Rosenthal Family Foundation Award for Painting from the American Academy of Arts and Letters. In an interview with *Bomb* magazine, Thom Donovan describes Adam Pendleton as “an extraordinary artist capable of synthesizing disciplines and media, creating—together with his collaborators—*Gesamtwerke* [total works of art] that nevertheless remain drafts of a broader, essayistic practice.

His works—like those of his numerous avant-garde predecessors—are, in the truest sense of the word, experimental. He creates a laboratory in which our social and political desires can become visible, albeit only fleetingly. … Although Pendleton’s work often leaves us with aporias and blind spots, we sense the power of historical matter organizing itself and finding form beyond representation and essence.”

Pendleton frequently juxtaposes images, language, music, and concepts drawn from diverse fields—such as philosophy and major historical currents—thereby creating complex works that invite manifold interpretations. He has often focused on significant moments in African American history, such as the Civil Rights Movement of the 1960s and the more recent Black Lives Matter movement, which emerged in the wake of the killing of Trayvon Martin.

Der Künstler lebt abwechselnd in New York City und in Germantown, New York.

Kookaburras are terrestrial tree kingfishers of the genus Dacelo native to Australia and New Guinea, which grow to between 28–42 cm (11–17 in) in length. The name is a loanword from Wiradjuri guuguubarra, onomatopoeic of its call. The loud distinctive call of the laughing kookaburra is widely used as a stock sound effect in situations that involve an Australian bush setting.

Early morning at the harbor in Pattaya, Thailand.

Since I can't think of a suitable caption for this photo, I’ll give you a quick update on my Thai lessons instead.

I am definitely making great progress, and I really enjoy learning the language. I’ve already internalized quite a few everyday and recurring phrases. However, I know I still have a long way to go, as the language is quite challenging—which is why the course is designed to last over a year.

About two weeks ago, I started learning the writing system. As I’ve discovered, reading and writing are very different from speaking and understanding.

The Thai alphabet has 44 consonants and 32 vowels (compared to a total of 26 in German). For instance, there are five versions of the letter "K" and even six of the letter "T." I haven't yet learned when or why to use each one.

I can now read and write the consonants almost flawlessly; the vowels will likely follow soon.

In short: it remains an exciting journey, and it’s fun.

Visiting a Buddhist temple is always a very special experience for me. They are simply places that not only look beautiful but also radiate a wonderful sense of peace.

And even though I don't yet speak the language or understand the customs, these visits feel less and less like being a tourist.

I've even been able to participate in a few ceremonies and make a few wishes to Buddha. Now it's simply a matter of maintaining my faith.

I usually don't even bring a camera. This was an exception, as this beautiful temple is located in the National Museum in Bangkok, which I visited as a tourist.

Cruise Ship in front of the "Mitre Peak" at Milford Sound.

Milford Sound/Piopiotahi is a fiord in the south west of New Zealand's South Island within Fiordland National Park, Piopiotahi (Milford Sound) Marine Reserve, and the Te Wahipounamu World Heritage site. It has been judged the world's top travel destination in an international survey (the 2008 Travelers' Choice Destinations Awards by TripAdvisor and is acclaimed as New Zealand's most famous tourist destination. Rudyard Kipling had previously called it the eighth Wonder of the World.

Milford Sound runs 15 kilometres inland from the Tasman Sea at Dale Point (also named after a location close to Milford Haven in Wales)—the mouth of the fiord—and is surrounded by sheer rock faces that rise 1,200 metres (3,900 ft) or more on either side. Among the peaks are The Elephant at 1,517 metres (4,977 ft), said to resemble an elephant's head and The Lion, 1,302 metres (4,272 ft), in the shape of a crouching lion.

Milford Sound sports two permanent waterfalls all year round, Lady Bowen Falls and Stirling Falls. After heavy rain however, many hundreds of temporary waterfalls can be seen running down the steep sided rock faces that line the fiord. They are fed by rain water drenched moss and will last a few days at most once the rain stops

A heavy cloud cover, fog, drizzle and heavy rain up to bright sunshine, all this united on one photo, combined with a scenery that made me speechless. Last week I showed You a shot of that lonely tree in the right front. Now, as You see what I saw, You can probably imagine how hard is was to decide for one composition and to spare all the rest. I've never watched mt. Lilienstein from this perspective and I'm overwhelmed. This is a spot I will return to more than once. Even if it was very windy up there.

This morning was one in which NO weather model has seen anything. So I drove to my favorite spot to see what was going on today.

What I saw left me speechless. So intense, so big, so beautiful!

Driving a car in Naples is an interesting experience. Relax, do not adhere to classic driving laws, relax, use your horn for lots of friendly conversation and greetings, relax, park in places that are too narrow for a tow truck to reach your vehicle, relax, open up a second or third lane even when there is hardly space for a single lane, relax, Vespas would pass beneath your car if there were room, relax, always hire a car with complete inshurance. Looks like is is the very same way with local architecture...

Beneath a railway bridge stretches a wild carpet of colors, shapes, and messages - the language of the street, frozen in concrete. Massive pillars divide the image into rhythmic segments, as if they were the metronomes of an urban heartbeat. Each one carries its own story, layered with graffiti - some fresh, some faded, like echoes of nights gone by.

In the background, a train rushes by, blurred, fast, almost ghostly - as if a fleeting thought amidst the solid, tangible chaos of the walls. The combination of stillness and movement, of concrete and color, speaks of rebellion, creativity, and the eternal flux of urban life.

"Urban Echo" captures this moment between noise and silence - a visual reverberation of what people have left behind here. Art that comes and goes, just like the trains that rush past on the tracks below.

The artist braces threads in large spaces, which means an enormous investment of time and labor, days of manual work with many helpers and assistants. In one work, for example, it was 800 km of wool thread (La Sucrière, Lyon).

Chiharu Shiota connects the threads in such a way that a loose, disordered net is created, denser in some places, looser in others, the threads intertwine and knot into a web. Like nerve tracts of a human brain or body.

Sometimes she spins in worn shoes, beds, clothes, scissors, and occasionally herself.

ENG: The futuristic suburban train station „Wilhelm-Leuschner-Platz“ on the edge of the beautiful Leipzig city centre. It also bears the nickname "Square of the Peaceful Revolution" and is intended to commemorate the historical events of 1989. It was built as part of the Leipzig City Tunnel project and opened on 15 December 2013, enabling passengers to travel directly by rail from Leipzig Hauptbahnhof to the city centre.

The station Leipzig Wilhelm-Leuschner-Platz is about 20 m underground and has a 140 m long island platform. There are two entrances, north and south of the Martin-Luther-Ring. The staircases, escalators and the two elevators create a dense structure. So that the transparent S-Bahn station with the tidy platform speaks a clear design language. Methodically important part of this station is the extensive restraint in the use of simple, clearly readable elements as well as the glass bricks in the walls and ceilings of the prefabricated elements.
