Water splashing out of a fountain. Loved the blue reflecting the flowers to the side and behind it. The distance background is a pot of yellow flowers. Straight out of camera other than resize.

“We ourselves feel that what we are doing is just a drop in the ocean. But the ocean would be less because of that missing drop.” - Mother Theresa of Calcutta

A drop of water really does look ever so insignificant and the reaction it causes is over in a split second...forgotten in an instant. But when we take a second to examine it's effects closely, how amazing it becomes! Small, seemingly insignificant things that we do, really can have amazing and far reaching effects if we take the time to appreciate them.

This week’s theme for my 52 project is “Macro.” I had wanted to do some water drop macros a few months ago for the “water” theme, but I wasn’t able to. The Macro theme gives me an excuse to finally get around to them.

This is my second time doing water drop photography. I actually found it easier this time around. I used a leftover IV bag and tubing to create the water drops. This works very well as I have a lot of control over the speed of the water. I’m sure I’ll try these again as I’ve learned a few more things to change for next time around.

This is my alternate shot — a “splash” shot. I decided to use B&W for this one.

The white geese have a morning splash, in the early morning sun, water is being splashed everywhere as the large goose flaps its wings and ducks its head under while having a early morning bath , as the younger geese look on

The Dutch are very strict about swimming! Since we don’t have a “zwimdeploma” nobody in the family is allowed outside of the 50 cm section of the lake. Fortunately, my son was all too happy to help his Dad come up with a “splash” picture for his Flickr group no matter how wet poor Dad became. 😆

Took my daughter out to jump in the rain puddles, with the idea of getting a fun splash shot. This is pretty much what I was going for!

So. After seeing alot of neat "splash" pictures here on flickr I figured I'd give it a shot myself. So armed with my camera, a couple flashes, the kitchen sink and a watertap I went at it! And out of roughly 500 snaps this one turned out the best imo.

Also feel free to check out my dad's great photostream! He's taught me alot and inspired me.

Playing around with coloured gels and flashes with water splashes

I had to make my own version of a coffee splash image. It was pretty hard to get the right moment to shoot. Out of about 30 attempts (and cleaning inbetween most) I only got this one splash. Wicked. I wonder how the other guys managed to do it with one shot only. Maybe their cameras are faster...
