At 1/80th of a second shutter speed, I didn't really 'freeze' the droplets, but it still gives a nice backdrop as these gulls rest on the rocks.
Enjoy!
The Splash grounds have been open to the public for a few days now, but are officially kicking things off TODAY, August 16th! Running until August 23rd, this event includes shopping, gifts, gaming, a performance by Geurilla Burlesque, and more!
Of course, I built an info spot for SWF in the shopping area as well. Pics of that soon! :)

If you visit one of Cambodia's floating villages, you will see colorful houses on stilts, long boats plying the waterways, and lots of kids playing in the water. It's not unusual to see children floating in tubs splashing water at each other. In fact, it's such a common sight that its almost become an iconic symbol of these villages.
This image, which I have not shared before, has been a personal favorite for a long time. I felt like my photo stream could use a splash of color today.
Wow...despite being sent to the Crematorium by the Ice Box with seven unanimous uncools, this shot just made it into Explore for July 2nd. Highest postion - 46. Booh-yah!
Joined a great new group called Get Pushed!! Round One, where you are paired with someone who gives you a photographic challenge ouside your comfort zone. This is the one the delightful and talented yrrgeirs sent me: "SPLASH! I´m challenging you to do a "SPLASH" shot. Coffee splash, milk splash, water..........or whatever comes to mind! Try it, might be fun! :-D"
It was messy fun, but I'm afraid I only had five minutes to spare from my exam marking, so the two shots are rushed and sooc. Coward that I am, I tried it first with water, and only then with hot chocolate. I think the water one is slightly better, though neither of them is brilliant. I shall try this again when I have time. BTW, I dropped a golf-ball sized tomato into the cups to get the splashes! Now you should all go join Jordy's group and Get Pushed!!
A submission to Sliders Sunday, where over-processing is encouraged. Big seas at North Curl Curl, one of Sydney's Northern Beaches.

I Was Little busy this past weekend..
Anyway here is the Info about this picture..
This is an image of a Rain drop splashing against a wall during monsoon in Vizag. The light you see here is natural and not a studio setup :)
This is one of the image in my early P&S days which inspired me to go for a DSLR.
I shot this image with a friend's Canon Digital Rebel XT in 2006, lost exif info from the raw to jpg conversion using early version of picasa. Atleast from what i remember, it is one from few shots in burst mode at highest ISO Canon DR XT offers.
Processing: Removed Noise using Noise Ninja Plugin, convert to BW and used curves to get this lowkey lighting..
It had been a pretty long time since getting out with camera in hand in Chicago--about 2 and a half years since my son was born. The family opted to spend the weekend in the city and being only a few blocks from the bean, I opted to get up early and soak in the sight. It turned out to be a great sunrise and was followed by equally incredible donuts. It was a good weekend.
Always amazed at how long some leaves stay on. This splash of color was a welcome sight on a snowy afternoon in February. Harold Ennis Nature Preserve west of Mount Vernon.
Morialta (second falls)
South Australia
This little frequented waterfall at Morialta was flowing spectacularly given the recent rains. Long exposure evened out the random splashes to the glowing appearance here. Also, the red rock was glowing as was the yellow blooms of sneeze inducing wattle pollen! I'm sure this will be my last weekend of landscape shooting for a while , so goodbye for a little while! (and when I'm back, no doubt baby pictures will predominate lol)
Over the last couple of months, John Brew has been hosting an OffShoot photography session to shoot water droplets. John has built his own water droplet machine and the result have been pretty spectacular (perhaps not mine!).
This is the result of smashing a second drop of water into another that landed in the milk bath a few milliseconds earlier.
Essential ingredients: milk, food colouring, a couple of Speedlites and, of course, JB's magnificent droplet machine.
Sketching Stuff Challenge: Splash Some Color
This time Charlie O’Shields walks us through his painting of a paintbrush with a background of splashed color. I went off on a complete tangent though. I happened to have splashed color all over some paper for another project, when I saw the challenge, and knew this was meant to be my answer to it. Instead of sketching before color was added, I looked at what I had splashed and decided it was a dragon breathing fire.

This was so close that I heard the splash as the eagle snatched the fish from the river. So close it would not fit in the frame ...no crop here.
For work today I had a meeting in the afternoon about 15 minutes from Conowingo Dam. I was not going to bring my camera as I figured it would be cloudy or the meeting would run too late. As it was I was able to get over to the river about 30 minutes before sunset.
Not the best of lighting as the sun was behind the trees to my back, so in shade, but a lot of light coming down from the sky above.
When I arrived at the Dam I passed 10 photographers that were leaving for the day, they indicated it was a very slow day for eagle action ... but as I was there I figured I would go down to the fishing deck near the Dam and see what happened for a few minutes. There were only about 5 people left there, usually the platform will have 40 to 50. They were also running some of the larger generators today so the river level was about 10 feet higher than when only running the smaller generators, this placed the river surface here about 5 feet below the fishing platform.
I was there enjoying the pretty sunlight on the clouds and the Dam, as well as the trees across the river when several eagles came out and were flying over the river to fish. They were circling pretty high and not worth snapping at that distance. Then out of the corner of my eye I saw (and heard the swoosh) this eagle come out of the trees from our back about 20 feet above our heads when he turned and dropped doing a 180 turn and dropped no more than 30 to 40 feet away right in front of me to snatch this fish from the river. It was so fast that I barely had time to react. The capture above is not cropped, it was that close ... too close actually, but extremely cool to witness.
Made even better because I was in dress pants, shoes, and a Christmas Tie ... probably the best dressed eagle photographer the Dam has seen :))
Working on the next frame now, where the eagle emerged and flew off with its dinner.
