Captured yesterday during another visit to Hunter Wetlands Center (Shortland, NSW; Australia) with long time friend and fellow flickr photographer Joe Micallef.
This Black Swan was grooming itself and splashing water onto its feathers before preening - hope you like it!

Hope you have another wonderful day and week!
It had been a pretty long time since getting out with camera in hand in Chicago--about 2 and a half years since my son was born. The family opted to spend the weekend in the city and being only a few blocks from the bean, I opted to get up early and soak in the sight. It turned out to be a great sunrise and was followed by equally incredible donuts. It was a good weekend.
I'm not sure if this Westchester County lake has a name. This view of this dam expanded section of the Saw Mill River is from the South County Trailway In Elmsford, New York.
Over the last couple of months, John Brew has been hosting an OffShoot photography session to shoot water droplets. John has built his own water droplet machine and the result have been pretty spectacular (perhaps not mine!).
This is the result of smashing a second drop of water into another that landed in the milk bath a few milliseconds earlier.
Essential ingredients: milk, food colouring, a couple of Speedlites and, of course, JB's magnificent droplet machine.
Sketching Stuff Challenge: Splash Some Color
This time Charlie O’Shields walks us through his painting of a paintbrush with a background of splashed color. I went off on a complete tangent though. I happened to have splashed color all over some paper for another project, when I saw the challenge, and knew this was meant to be my answer to it. Instead of sketching before color was added, I looked at what I had splashed and decided it was a dragon breathing fire.

This was so close that I heard the splash as the eagle snatched the fish from the river. So close it would not fit in the frame ...no crop here.
For work today I had a meeting in the afternoon about 15 minutes from Conowingo Dam. I was not going to bring my camera as I figured it would be cloudy or the meeting would run too late. As it was I was able to get over to the river about 30 minutes before sunset.
Not the best of lighting as the sun was behind the trees to my back, so in shade, but a lot of light coming down from the sky above.
When I arrived at the Dam I passed 10 photographers that were leaving for the day, they indicated it was a very slow day for eagle action ... but as I was there I figured I would go down to the fishing deck near the Dam and see what happened for a few minutes. There were only about 5 people left there, usually the platform will have 40 to 50. They were also running some of the larger generators today so the river level was about 10 feet higher than when only running the smaller generators, this placed the river surface here about 5 feet below the fishing platform.
I was there enjoying the pretty sunlight on the clouds and the Dam, as well as the trees across the river when several eagles came out and were flying over the river to fish. They were circling pretty high and not worth snapping at that distance. Then out of the corner of my eye I saw (and heard the swoosh) this eagle come out of the trees from our back about 20 feet above our heads when he turned and dropped doing a 180 turn and dropped no more than 30 to 40 feet away right in front of me to snatch this fish from the river. It was so fast that I barely had time to react. The capture above is not cropped, it was that close ... too close actually, but extremely cool to witness.
Made even better because I was in dress pants, shoes, and a Christmas Tie ... probably the best dressed eagle photographer the Dam has seen :))
Working on the next frame now, where the eagle emerged and flew off with its dinner.
Prepared for Pimp my Pixels / Jumping Girl, from an original taken by wishymom. It was edited by me and the background is one of my pics. The original Jumping Girl can be found here; www.flickr.com/photos/wishymom/246055688/
I’ve been visiting this area for years and managed to capture this scene just as the shadow of the mountains were about to extend over the meadow.
This is the result of being in the house on a rainy day in Yorkshire and wanting to learn more about photography. A tray of water , an off camera flash and drop the handle of a Knife into the tray. Splash ! I hope you like the shot, please let me know if you do. Thanks and have a great weekend , Graham.
