Good weekend to all!
My thanks for comments, visits... Everything!
I took some pictures of some water droplets yesterday for a first time in a while. It took quite a bit of time (and 989 photos on quick-shoot) to get the shot I wanted but I got it in the end. Happy Slider Sunday! :)
If you visit one of Cambodia's floating villages, you will see colorful houses on stilts, long boats plying the waterways, and lots of kids playing in the water. It's not unusual to see children floating in tubs splashing water at each other. In fact, it's such a common sight that its almost become an iconic symbol of these villages.
A splash of colour in this long exposure as the setting sun eventually decided to spread some colour amongst the grey. In a rush to change my location I placed my camera at an angle...hence the narrow crop. This is a 93 second exposure (I cut it short by mistake but I think it works well anyway)
52 Still Lifes: 14/52: Splash.
Un show!!!
A swimming labrador makes a splash at Frensham Little Pond.
Whilst setting up at this spot for some shots, this friendly dogs owner decided to start throwing a stick for it.
Everyone has a right to be here, so took a couple of the event.
Lawn Sprinklers open or just cars going by, one can never be too careful if there is water on the road; you may just get wet.
At 1/80th of a second shutter speed, I didn't really 'freeze' the droplets, but it still gives a nice backdrop as these gulls rest on the rocks.
Enjoy!
Wow...despite being sent to the Crematorium by the Ice Box with seven unanimous uncools, this shot just made it into Explore for July 2nd. Highest postion - 46. Booh-yah!
Joined a great new group called Get Pushed!! Round One, where you are paired with someone who gives you a photographic challenge ouside your comfort zone. This is the one the delightful and talented yrrgeirs sent me: "SPLASH! I´m challenging you to do a "SPLASH" shot. Coffee splash, milk splash, water..........or whatever comes to mind! Try it, might be fun! :-D"
It was messy fun, but I'm afraid I only had five minutes to spare from my exam marking, so the two shots are rushed and sooc. Coward that I am, I tried it first with water, and only then with hot chocolate. I think the water one is slightly better, though neither of them is brilliant. I shall try this again when I have time. BTW, I dropped a golf-ball sized tomato into the cups to get the splashes! Now you should all go join Jordy's group and Get Pushed!!
Have a lovely weekend, everyone!
Thanks to everyone who takes the time to view, comment or fave this image.
A submission to Sliders Sunday, where over-processing is encouraged. Big seas at North Curl Curl, one of Sydney's Northern Beaches.

This was the winner of POTD....Shot of the water fountain at the Rose Garden. I love the LB Bokeh :)
This was so close that I heard the splash as the eagle snatched the fish from the river. So close it would not fit in the frame ...no crop here.
For work today I had a meeting in the afternoon about 15 minutes from Conowingo Dam. I was not going to bring my camera as I figured it would be cloudy or the meeting would run too late. As it was I was able to get over to the river about 30 minutes before sunset.
Not the best of lighting as the sun was behind the trees to my back, so in shade, but a lot of light coming down from the sky above.
When I arrived at the Dam I passed 10 photographers that were leaving for the day, they indicated it was a very slow day for eagle action ... but as I was there I figured I would go down to the fishing deck near the Dam and see what happened for a few minutes. There were only about 5 people left there, usually the platform will have 40 to 50. They were also running some of the larger generators today so the river level was about 10 feet higher than when only running the smaller generators, this placed the river surface here about 5 feet below the fishing platform.
I was there enjoying the pretty sunlight on the clouds and the Dam, as well as the trees across the river when several eagles came out and were flying over the river to fish. They were circling pretty high and not worth snapping at that distance. Then out of the corner of my eye I saw (and heard the swoosh) this eagle come out of the trees from our back about 20 feet above our heads when he turned and dropped doing a 180 turn and dropped no more than 30 to 40 feet away right in front of me to snatch this fish from the river. It was so fast that I barely had time to react. The capture above is not cropped, it was that close ... too close actually, but extremely cool to witness.
Made even better because I was in dress pants, shoes, and a Christmas Tie ... probably the best dressed eagle photographer the Dam has seen :))
Working on the next frame now, where the eagle emerged and flew off with its dinner.
