'Speeding' on one of our local commuter 'rat runs' (Lansdown Lane) came up as a priority at our local PACT* meeting the other day so we decided to get out and do some 'Community Speed Watch'. The police provide us with the equipment and training, we record the details of speeding drivers and the police write them a letter pointing out the error of their ways.
The fact we're there has a huge effect. Most drivers were doing less than 30. One slowed to 16! We did report almost 20 drivers though, the highest speed we recorded was 44.
*PACT - Partners and Communities Together - the police run 'have your say' meetings where local people get to help direct police resources toward what they see as local priorities. In this case, I think, justifiably. The road has a poor accident record, even with all the extra signage.
This lil' bugger was a pain in the backside for, you are not going to believe it but I worked on this for at least 7 hours, just trying to get the shaping and scale right.
I am quite happy with the way it turned out and I wish I had seen This before I finished it.
This is part of my Hoth Vignette for the Star Wars Vignette Challenge but I am going to have to re-shoot because it did not follow a particular rule.
Something else. Its not very easy to tell whats going one here, but I still like the picture.
I used the slightly damaged container from the previous photo to do another, deeper pellet. Used a flat topped pellet to get a bigger wake, which I got.
I also got this fever dream of color. Even blue, which confused me till I realized that it was one of the rags I put around the setup to catch the water.
You can see the pellet. theer is even a bubble of air(?) trapped in the wake.
A wild photo. I'm really going to have to figure out what the bleep I'm doing.
This picture makes me realize I've got a fine flash instrument here,which I mostly use to pound nails.
I took this photograph at Mc Lean's corner during the Invited Pre-1961 Sports & GT Cars Race at the SeeRed meeting at Donington Park in May 2011. It's Ned Spieker in his 1948 Frazer Nash High Speed leading the 1955 Aston Martin DB2/4 of James Campbell. The Frazer Nash, which is chassis 421/100/004, has a 2-litre Bristol engine and was originally delivered to a Frantisek Dobry of Czechoslovakia in December 1948. After Harold Adlington and Norman Culpan finished in third place at the 1949 Le Mans 24 Hour race in Frazer Nash High Speed chassis 421/100/008 subsequent cars were known as Frazer Nash Le Mans models.

michael andretti just moments before he crashed his brand new kraco racing march 88c that had fewer than 50 miles on it.
he had tried to go through turn one full throttle.
it didn't work. he crashed at at least 140mph. the car was written off. he was unhurt.
the next frame on the roll was a blurred shot of the sky. i had hit the ground. he hit the wall about 30-40 feet from me.
behind me was a large metal sign advertising something. in it were stuck numerous pieces of the car.
The jig you use is just a hub. Take your time and get them as straight as possible before you tack weld them into the frame.
I keep trying to try shots with water and a pellet and here is why I don't think I will ever get a good shot.
The beautiful water patterns of falling water become a blast of mist when the pellet hits. The water is milliseconds and the the pellet is microseconds.
There were some beautiful photos published recently where the target was a water drop. I liked the photos a lot, but saw that the pellet had to be going much slower than a "typical" pellet. When I contacted the photographer, he verified that the pellet was about 100fps rather than this pellet which is going at about 800fps.
I will keep playing with the idea, but am dubious that I can get it to work.

I was looking at this shot last night and liked it for different reasons. Less delay that the earlier shot.
Nice day of rain. I wanted to go out on a ride, but decided it was a little too wet.
Wimp. I enjoy biking in a misty rain, but driving rain is not much fun.
