A curious squirrel enjoying a quick snack.

Captured in natural light, this little moment shows how much character and charm nature hides in everyday parks.

Mel's favorite ice cream flavor is purple. What, you say? Purple is a color, not a flavor? Tell her.

(Heidi reminds me that tasting colors is a phenomenon known as synesthesia.)

Chipmunks are always fun to watch, and they are always looking for food. :-)

The tree was buzzing with Australasian Figbirds — flashes of olive, red, and grey weaving through the branches like a feathered street market. They were loud, busy, competitive, each one darting in for the ripest fruit before someone else beat them to it.

But this juvenile? He had zero interest in subtlety.

He marched right out onto an exposed branch, berry clamped in his beak, absolutely determined to crush his snack in full view of anyone watching. No camouflage, no caution, just pure, single‑minded commitment to the moment.

A tiny bird with big “I’m eating this and you can’t stop me” energy.

Small crackers (about 2 cm in diameter) in different shapes, seen from close :)

Prothonotary warblers primarily feed on insects and spiders, favoring beetles, caterpillars, and dragonflies. They glean insects from leaves and branches or catch them in flight. During migration, they may also consume berries and fruits. Their varied diet provides essential nutrients for their energetic lifestyle and breeding efforts.

At the Luoyan train station in Lyoyan China we had over an hour to kill before our departure. What better time to grab one's camera and look for interesting subjects. Here is a shot of some colourful looking jars containing baked goods for sale at the food kiosk.
