This beautiful little owl is a Cloud-forest Pygmy Owl and they are only found on the Pacific slope of the Western Andes of Colombia and Ecuador. The population of mature individuals is estimated to be just 2,500 - 9,999.

I was very excited that we were able to observe this owl for several minutes. Photographing it with this cicada was a bonus!

Photo of a Japanese White-eye was taken on March 21, 2007 in Wailea, Maui, Hawaii

This chipmunk had a pretty nice setup at the top of observation point in Zion National Park, Utah. As hikers stopped to enjoy the view, it would run around where they sat looking for food scraps. While you should not feed the animals, occasionally someone unknowingly drops a scrap and the chipmunks play clean up. This particular chipmunk did just that as someone near us dropped part of their snack.
