The mystery is solvéd - in this picture's comment thread loungelistener asked whether this sign is still lit. The spike part lights on both sides, and on this side “lodge” lights very dimly. So the answer is: kind of.
Today the weather was beastly in Salt Lake City, but the light was terrific for neon. But with the wind and threatening snow it wasn't the kind of day when you wanted to go tramping around with a camera and tripod - at least Mrs. W. and I didn't - call us wusses if you must. The light was like constant twilight. Quite a contrast from the day I took that other picture of the sign linked above.
(Added to Mondo Utah because of the Golden Spike connection. The Spike is one of Utah's big proud historical moments.)
Scranton Library sign in use from the expansion in 1989 to the renovation which began in 2018. Long rectangular brown sign made of wood with large routed-in letters reading, "Scranton Library". Letters are painted gold in the imprints, and they have faded outlines painted in blue around them. Square cutouts at each of the four corners. Imprinted tan border along the edges of the sign. Eight screws going through the sign in total, with four spaced out in a row near the top edge and and four similarly near the bottom edge. 11' long x 16" tall x 1 1/4" thick.

1154 West Broadway, Vancouver, BC.
The Bowmac sign was constructed in 1958 on Broadway, which was Vancouver's Auto Row at the time. A number of car dealers, notably the Dueck and Deely dealerships, had begun erecting a number of increasingly large signs to attract attention. The Bowmac dealership countered with a 29 m (80-foot) high orange sign illuminated with red neon and hundreds of flashing light bulbs. The background was repainted to the current red and blue colours. It was the tallest structure outside of Downtown and briefly, it was the largest freestanding sign in North America. When illuminated it could be seen as far as 18 miles away. Apparently, Jimmy Patterson was pleased with his first sign which prompted him to purchase the company that built it, Neon Products.
Some of the sign's notable features include: its colossal size; its extravagant use of 1950's technology (i.e., over 1,200 incandescent light bulbs and extensive neon lighting); the characteristic 1950's letter font; and the Las Vegas style marquee base with kinetic lighting. The Bowmac sign is an icon of the era when Vancouver, because of its significant number of artistic neon signs, was referred to as the "neon capital of North America". The Bowmac sign is distinct from the other neon signs. It is a city landmark because of its size and its position on the West Broadway route.

Going to this restaurant on Christmas Eve was a tradition in my family from about 1972 until maybe 1980. Not sure about the dates and not sure why we went there, but I now appreciate the place as the time capsule it is.
ETA: now closed for good, sadly. AFAIK the place is intact for the moment.
ETA 8/27/11: Very sadly, saw workmen dismantling the neon for this place today as Dad and I drove past. They appeared to be doing so carefully, but I don't know if that means there's any preservation effort afoot or if they just didn't want to get broken glass all over. The building appears to be getting remodeled or maybe demolished.

Somehow I've always had a fixation with this beautiful sign at Adventureland, in the Magic Kingdom. And somehow I've never got the picture that pleased me of it. This is the closest I've got to it. I'll keep trying :)
It's always lovely to see the first of the leaves on trees appear in Spring, they are so fresh and vibrant.

Last night when we were putting Jessie to bed, she told us she thinks she lost her stuffed dog Luc Dog (named after our old dog Luc) at school. It's her favorite stuffed animal. She loves him like no other toy. She began crying at the thought that she might not see him again. So I made this sign and we're going to hang it at her school. I hope we find him. She will be crushed if we don't.
Ferrari 458 Speciale engine bay complete with signatures at the Ferrari Owners Club meet at Chatsworth House in Derbyshire.
Presumably these are the signatures of the Ferrari engineers that built it. Wonder if Ferrari charge extra for this?...Not sure If this option is available with the Focus ST but I’m thinking of asking for it anyway when I’m down at the Ford dealers so I know who to thank when a piece falls off.
