BLS: specific signals for SIM trains. The Simplon-Inter-Modal (SIM) corridor is a path specially adapted for rolling highway trains and trains charged by "High Cube" large containers, and it is characterized by having a larger gauge clearance than the rest of the lines.

This is the initial panel advertising the entrance in the SIM corridor.

SNCF Carré violet (CV) signal from behind

Equivalent to the carré, this signal is in general installed on the service tracks (except particular cases: backward movements for parking, exit from some station tracks...).

The closed carré violet commands the driver to stop before the signal.

Here are both semaphore and B&O style CPL (Color Position Light) Signals. Also note the interesting sign for left hand signals.

Automatic block section (ABS) rules showing the unique style of semaphore signals and sideways placement of tri-light signals which C&NW was famous for. These are diverging clear and restricting aspects.

The white light on the top is a Direction indicator (Indicateur de direction (ID)

By luminous signalling, the direction indicator is made of 2 to 6 white lights horizontally aligned;

by mechanical signalling, it is made of 2 to 6 white wings, vertically aligned.

This signal tells the direction the train is steered to, from the left – geographically, not depending on switches.

The voie libre indicates to the driver that normal circulation is allowed, if nothing is opposed to it.
