Project 252 - A Year at Roman
A story that has featured in press, online and hardcopy over the weekend has been our praise for achieving a substantial reduction in waste being produced from our factory and offices. Of 250 tonnes of waste produced by Roman per year, only 7% has been sent to landfill with 233 tonnes of cardboard, packaging, glass, steel, brass and plastic being actively recycled using methods such as our waste compacting machine, sorting bins and metal recycling schemes.
Today's 252 is the photograph taken by our in house press photographer, Sue, of Ian, our Environemantal Activites Co-ordinator, using one of two of our cardboard waste compactors.

Gerry Osborne, Chairman and Founder of Roman, with his wife Pamela, outside a very sunny Buckingham Palace as they were invited to attend the Royal Jubilee Garden Tea Party. The Garden Party was attended by a range of guests from all parts of the UK, and hosted by Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth II.

Project 252 - A Year at Roman
If you didn't know already, 5 Ladies from Roman took part in the Great North Run 2012 on Sunday 16th September. The famous race, that saw over 39,000 runners, walkers and joggers take to the streets of Tyne and Wear.
The ladies had a brilliant time, and managed to get some photos for todays 252.

Today's 252 has been sent in by Rob, one of our Area Retail Development Managers, after he held a Roman Breakfast Morning at the Hull branch of James Hargreaves this week.
The breakfast morning gives the retailer the opportunity to welcome trade and out of office interest into the store at a time that suits them, and we are sure that tempting them with bacon butties and a cup of tea is a perfect idea on such chilly mornings we've been having lately.

At Christmas all of our staff have a choice of a Turkey or a bottle of Champagne for their Christmas lunch as thank you from Roman. The Champagne has been delivered today and is being distributed to all of those who opted for a drink. Our Financial Controller, Jon, has managed to stay in the background of 252 all year. However, we captured him today with his Festive Skiing Singing Santa as his bottle of fizz was delivered. Clearly modern accountants have moved on somewhat from the 'Scrooge' at Christmas image!

Project 252 - A Year at Roman
Today staff got into the Spirit by ringing our 'Bells' at 8.12am this morning as part of the All the Bells Work No. 1197 by Martin Creed (www.allthebells.com) to Open & Welcome the Olympics London 2012.
We rang a range of bells and also got dressed up for Roman's 'Sports Day' wearing a range of sports tops and attire.

We have just had this picture sent in by a leading luxury UK Housing Development which we supply to. The picture shows the upmarket bathroom in this multi-million pound property, which includes our Sculptures Corner Panel and our Infinity Shower Tray. The Sculptures wetroom panel features 10mm thick glass and is styled with minimal framing, making it a perfect fit for luxury homes and hotels. Our Infinity Shower Tray offers a minimalist wetroom look with the reassurance of a tray.

Steph, one of our Roman at Home Customer Services team, was photographed today measuring up the bubble wrap for one of the several Christmas related orders we've been receiving this week. This order contained a bundle including; Silver Swirl Tablecloth, matching Silver Napkins, set of 6 Gold Reindeer Napkin Rings and new for 2012, a Reindeer Doormat.
Christmas has also arrived on the Roman at Home website, with it's dedicated Christmas Shop containing new table linen, decoration, accessories and gifts for 2012 alongside staple Christmas favourites.

Roman at Home has launched an array of new ranges for Christmas 2012 including; Centrepiece decorations, Freestanding Christmas Cones, Exclusive Napkin Rings, new Jason Placemats as well as expanding the existing range of table linens this season.

For as long as we can remember, Roman has always been proud to have a Poppy collection tin and tray of Poppies in our Reception, encouraging staff and visitors alike to wear a Poppy in remembrance for 11/11. For today's 252 you can see a selection of Poppy photos from staff at Roman wearing traditional Poppies & Poppy Pins.
Roman and Roman at Home have signed up to the Two Minute Silence Thunderclap that aims to simultaneously send out messages of support for the 2 minutes silence on Twitter, broadcasting the message of the Legion and importance of the 2 minutes silence. You can sign up to it here.

Project 252 - A Year at Roman
Our delivery of cardboard for the Christmas period has arrived for our box manufacturing machine. We managed to get a photo as the last pallets were being off loaded from the wagon. As showcased before for Project 252 we construct all our packing on site with our heavy duty box manufacturing machine and therefore take regular delivery of our card. The card we use in our packaging is a mix of previous recycled pulp and new card. It can be easily recycled after the products have been installed too.
