Project 252 - A Year at Roman
Today we were visited by a photographer from the Mail on Sunday. The photographer took photos of our Managing Director, David Osborne, around the factory, including in our showroom, on the shop floor, in Despatch, in Customer Relations and finally, outside of the main entrance. These pictures will be featured in a regular section in the Mail on Sunday which highlights British Manufactures. Roman are set to be included in this week's Mail on Sunday (24th June 2012). It is part of the paper’s Best British Manufacturer Awards.

As part of Roman at Home's ongoing product procurement and seasonal ranges, we often look at updating our ranges or new suppliers entirely. Today's visit was from WoodWick candles, a range we hope to bring online soon to Roman at Home. However, after smelling, using and opening dozens of scents and fragrances, Julian's office (our Commercial Director) now smells very nice and homely!

Project 252 - A Year at Roman
Team Roman will be taking part in the Great North Run this year to raise awareness and money for a range of charities close to our hearts. Also James will be running in the Bristol Half Marathon in September.
So, today Sue, Paul, Ally and Shelley met to go over sponsorship options, fundraising ideas and promotional materials for the next coming months.

Our Gold Designer Award for Marketing Innovation for the Project Specification Guide takes its place in our Awards cabinet. Roman were presented the award on the 15th of November 2012 by Interior Designer, Oliver Heath.
The award recognises innovation in marketing for a specific project, product launch or company. Our Project Specification Guide is a one-of-a-kind brochure and complimentary website that allows a project specifier to individually specify each part of the enclosure they require to complete a Project bathroom installation within, for instance, condominiums, a major housing or hotel development.

This weekend saw the launch of a new Showroom in Cambridge by one of our Retailers, BathworX. The showroom, located in Papworth, contains a range of displays from Roman from bath screens to full frame-less enclosures.

Last week we attended the House Beautiful Awards and were delighted to discover that our Infinity Shower Trays had been shortlisted for the Best Bathroom Product, after a record number of entries. The awards are an annual event and this year they were held at the Science Museum in London. Today’s picture shows the shortlist when it was announced at the event, along with a snap of our Managing Director David, with House Beautiful Deputy Editor Karen Stylianides.

Project 252 - A Year at Roman
As part of the full manufacturing cycle at Roman, we box, pack and strap all our products on-site through our integrated conveyor packing system which is linked to each production line. Motorised conveyors then move the boxes deep into the warehouse facility where they are then allocated to a specific despatch route. Today's 252 photo highlights this end process of our products being strapped, then racked up and prepared to be collected and labelled for despatch this afternoon.

Sam, Customer Relations Supervisor, received a lovely surprise today from a happy customer. Sam helped the customer out by organising her order and delivery so efficiently the customer has sent her a box of chocolates, which Sam promptly shared with the team.

Today we are welcomed by an old friend, Lorraine Henderson, with two newcomers to Roman. Lorraine previously held the position of Marketing Director at Roman, until the surprise announcement of the impending birth of the twins, Emma and James. Emma and James were good as gold while visiting Roman HQ and we look forward to them visiting again with their big brother Joshua, no doubt to start their career off at Roman in the coming years!

Our MD David (talking) Chairs the BMA’s (industry Trade Association) Centre of Excellence and Marketing Committee. Yesterday at Keele was the Marketing Committee – with 25 attendees from all the major players. The main subject was Water Efficiency – the new BIG topic for the coming years. Hosepipe bans may currently be in the News, but Bathrooms will be evolving rapidly to use less water in coming years.

It has been a presentation packed day at Roman. Firstly a lunch buffet in the Marketing & Export department to wish Aina (top photograph, right), Export Manager, farewell as she embarks on a new role down South.
Followed shortly by the second presentation to David Osborne (bottom photograph, centre), Managing Director of Roman by his father, Gerry Osborne the Founder & Chairman of Roman, to mark 20 years working here.
We wish Aina all the best in her new venture and toast David's success and look forward to another 20 years with him at the helm!!!

Our onsite Joinery and Shopfitting Department, Dave and Kevin, are seen in todays 252 photo discussing the plans for the forthcoming Sleep exhibition stand. The stand can be seen in the background of the photo with its structure taking form.
Roman is exhibiting at the Sleep Event, which takes place at the Business Design Centre in London, on the 21st – 22nd November 2012. The Sleep Event is a specialist exhibition for Hotel specifiers, designers and architects. Roman has been a prominent supporter of the Show over many years and it proves to be very successful element in our Hotel Marketing mix – both for the UK and Export markets.

Today Ally makes here Project 252 debut (Ally is usually taking our 252 photos). She was one of the dozens of Roman and Mears staff giving blood at a mobile unit in Newton Aycliffe. She is showing off her 'I Gave Blood' sticker with one of the staff from the brilliant Blood Team outside the mobile unit this morning.

One of the first jobs of Linda's (Marketing Support Assistant) morning, is opening and recording all postal and email guarantee registrations. The dozens of registrations seen in today's 252 photograph received in today's post are from products installed over the weekend.
As all Roman Enclosures come with our outstanding Lifetime Guarantee, and Haven with their 10 year Guarantee, we are always kept busy with the registration cards in the post. However, if a customer registers their guarantee online here they automatically get into our regular prize draw, saving the customer a stamp and a little bit of Linda's time entering the postcard Guarantee manually.

Project 252 - A Year at Roman
Today at Roman we've been starting to implement our Jubilee Celebrations which will last right through until the week of the official Jubilee Bank Holiday. Reception was first to get a make-over, with Jubilee Bunting. Made up of the Made in Britain logo, which we are proud to display as part of our British Manufacturing heritage, as well as the Union Jack flags and the Official Diamond Jubilee Logo.
In the photo you will also be able to see the plaque that commemorates our 25th Anniversary, unveiled by HRH The Earl of Wessex KG KCVO on the 14 April 2011.

The event was held in the fine surroundings of the Abode Restaurant in Manchester with the most exquisite canapés on arrival to the Abode, run by Michellin-Star Chef, Michael Caines.
