Project 252 - A Year at Roman
Today's 252 today comes from the Annual General Meeting of the County Durham Community Foundation (CDCF) to which Chairman of Roman, Gerry Osborne is one of 14 Trustee's of the independent grant-making charity.
The CDCF is similar to a charitable trust, without the high admin costs and lengthy processes. Instead donors can choose from a number of ways to channel their charitable giving by setting up named funds for causes or specific areas they would like to be targeted with their donations.
Roman for instance specifies that our gifting to the CDCF is spent within 10miles of Roman's Head Office in Newton Aycliffe and goes to help those in situations such as long term unemployment and the towards the Pioneering Care Partnership (PCP) that aims to help improve people's health and well being in the local community.
To date, the CDCF has awarded £21,213,047 to 6,255 local projects and 4,762 grants to individuals in the County Durham area.
Recently the CDCF has been gifted £1 million by Philanthropist Investment Banker, Jonathan Ruffer .

Project 252 - A Year at Roman
Roman was invited to give a presentation at a UK Trade and Investment (UKTI) event that was held on Aycliffe Business Park. Roman has worked with UKTI to develop our Export division and they were keen for us to share our experiences with others from the area, and to hold us up as a successful case-study. Our Commercial Director, Julian Pearson, stepped up to the mark and delivered the presentation which included details on why exporting is a key route to market and how our Export Department has developed over the years. The event was attend by key business leaders from around the area and included a talk from our local MP, Phil Wilson (pictured here).

Project 252 - A Year at Roman
The bright reflective Chrome effect finish on our aluminium is not an easy finish to achieve. In fact, most anodising companies will tell you that it is not possible! Anodising is a corrosive process so it is all about the control of speed through the anodising tanks - and very careful handling and jigging to ensure that we achieve such a delicate finish.
A recent visit to one of our extrusion and anodising partners highlights the start of the anodising process for todays photograph. Pictured are our Haven Quadrant rails just about to go into the series of tanks.

This means we can create everyday enclosure boxes for our products, through to bespoke packaging to protect our custom and bespoke enclosure and product orders. Today Dave, one of our in-house Joiners, has been deconstructing our Haven Trade Showroom in our Head Office in Netwon Aycliffe. The showroom showcases our full range of Haven Shower Enclosures and Bath Screens and was due a makeover and a lick of paint. Dave has been working hard today to get it up to speed with its fresh new look and ready in time for various retailers and trade visits next week.

Julie (near right) works within our Purchasing Department and celebrated her 20th year at Roman this week. Gerry, Chairman and Founder of Roman (near left), gave a heart warming speech while presenting flowers to our long running member of staff. Present in the room was also several other long-serving staff, including Deborah who has worked for Roman for 22 years and David Osborne, Managing Director, who also celebrates his 20th year at Roman this week.
Roman itself is only 27 years old, so we were delighted to celebrate Julie's Platinum anniversary with Roman for Project 252.

Most members of staff will never see Rachel, but we are never in doubt that she is about as she is our lovely cleaner. Rachel finishes work before the office and factory get to work, but even so we still managed to get a photo early this morning of her doing the rounds. Rachel not only looks after the offices, canteens and reception but she is in charge of keeping our in-house trade showrooms looking top-notch.

Today’s 252 picture is of our Company Driver, Paul, in our Voyager. If you’ve visited us here at Roman you will most likely have met Paul. He picks most of our visitors up from the train station and if you are staying over-night, he will be available to safely take you to and from your hotel. Paul also looks after our fleet of company cars and is always around to help if we have a last minute, or urgent delivery that needs attending to.

Today Angela (right), Franceso (left) and Julian (2nd left) have been host to Jason (2nd right), an export distributor and showroom owner from Europe. We caught them for Project 252 while they were showing him around our newly decorated Haven Showroom at Roman before they continued onto customer services team next in the factory tour. The visit was fruitful and we will be continuing to work with Jason on projects in the future.

Clearly we are banned from going into great detail here on 252 but it is looking very good! Project 252 - A Year at Roman
One of our retail partners Terry Reffell sent in this picture of their Roman display, which has just been updated. They’ve gone for a nice bright white colour which has really freshened up the display. Here you can see one of Orbital Quadrants at the front, with doors and enclosures from a variety of our other ranges all around; including Sculptures, Desire, Collage and Haven. Terry Reffell are based in Bridgend and Roman have worked with the Plumber’s Merchant for many years, so it is great to include them in Project 252.
