Project 252 - A Year at Roman
Its Friday the 16th, and that can only mean one thing… its Children in Need Day! We've been going around all the buildings at Roman HQ from the offices to the factory floors to get everyone involved to 'Raise Lots' as one of our girls t-shirts today championed.
Roman at Home kindly donated a prize of sweets and a birdcage from our Showroom. Staff were welcomed to guess, for a small donation of course, how many were sweets were in the Roman at Home Birdcage.
Top Left highlights the elusive Ami from Credit Control who has so far meticulously avoided all photography for 252!
All monies raised goes to Children in Need and the sweets to the winner….hopefully they will share them out around the building!

As part of Roman's on-going Reduce, Reuse and Recycle campaign in the offices, we regularly have our waste cardboard paletted up and ready to be collected for recycling. Roman is committed to caring for the environment and as a reflection of this commitment became fully accredited with ISO 14001 certification in 2009. We just don't stop at card recycling. We look at reducing waste at creation stage as well, such as our brochures printed on paper sourced from sustainable forest (look for the FSC logo on the back).

Project 252 - A Year at Roman
Today is the final day of the Sleep Event in the Business Design Centre in London, and the Roman stand is already bustling with visitors. We've managed to get a few photos between appointments, hoteliers, specifier, contractors and journalists this morning for Project 252.
Anyone visiting the stand may have noticed the addition of Hotel Toiletries and Amenities in our shower baskets and on our bathroom furniture. These have been supplied to us by Duck Island, a Luxury Hotel Toiletries Supplier. Their products are available in a variety of sizes for the hotel market and look perfect featuring throughout our stand at Sleep.
We are showcasing a range of products at the Sleep Event including our peek-a-boo bathroom privacy glass screens, our Designer Magazine Gold Award Winning Project Specification Guide and JTs Softstone shower floor.

Project 252 - A Year at Roman
Today marks the final day of Project 252 by Roman. We've documented a year at Roman through photographs, including everything from Gorillas in East Anglia to Business Meetings in Hong Kong.
We've had a great year, featuring on BBC News, Cowboy Builders, 60 Minute Makeover, Half Built House and You Deserve this House to name but a few. We've marked the arrival of new-starters, and the departure of good friends with a few birthday's and anniversaries in between. We've tried to snap a photo of every member of Roman at least once, and 40 times in some cases!
We would like to thank everyone who has got involved with Roman's Project 252 whether it's allowing us to take a photo or sending in their own over the last 12 months.
We wish everyone in 2013 a prosperous year!

This Month is the British Heart Foundation's Big Spring Clean, and everyone at Roman and Roman at Home have been filling up their blue bags for collection (left) by our local Heart Foundation shop in Newton Aycliffe this morning (right). Staff at Roman managed to fill 25 bags to the brim of books, DVDs, cloths, blinds, homewards and bric-a-brac to donate.

Roman has been using social media networks such as Twitter, Flickr and Facebook for several years and now has jumped on 'board' Pinterest with a handful of initial Boards and Pins for Roman's Pinterest account, launched today for Project 252.
Pinterest is a great social media platform which has blossomed in 2012 and we welcome all the magazines, showrooms and retailers to get in touch with their Pinterest account so we can follow your Boards and Interests.
Roman's sister company, Roman at Home, has been using Pinterest for several months with dozens of Pins, Boards and ideas for homewares, decorating and party themes.

On Day 147 of Project 252 we saw David in Customer Services leave Roman for pastures new, and now for today's photo we celebrate the end of the second week of his replacement, Penny. Penny is in the midst of her customer relations and product training and can be seen here dealing with a new customer order.
In the background, through the Customer Support Centre glass, you can see a valley of products, boxed up and palleted up, ready to be put into a container today and exported to the warmer climates of southern Europe!

As a British Manufacturer we have a lot of skilled members of staff in specific trades through the factory to: design, manufacture, construct and despatch our products. Francesco, our newest member to Roman's Export team, has been learning the various skills over the last few days. All of our sales team need to understand product intimately - perhaps even more important when you are a long way from home on an Export trip. His first training session was to learn how to construct the runners and brace bars for our enclosures, with Adrian from the Sculptures Production Line. The second training session today was getting to grips with our on-site solid surface manufacturing facility. Learning the moulding process of our tray manufacturing line with Lee.

Our Southern Contracts Manager, Mark, has been in central London this week on appointments, and passed close by to The Shard. The Shard is the tallest building in Western Europe standing at 310 metres high - filled with luxury residential homes, a 5 star Shangri-La Hotel, offices and restaurants and is just a stones throw from London's Tower Bridge. We should also point out that it is surrounded by a number of Roman customers and that Mark was working rather than sightseeing!

Yvonne, Chief Executive, and Laura, Membership Development Executive, from the Bathroom Manufacturers Association (BMA) came up to visit us yesterday to start planning the 2013 BMA Conference. Although the 2012 conference has only just passed, the hard work beings straightaway for the BMA Team.
The 2012 Conference continued the sustained growth of the Event and in 2013 the BMA clearly has plans to push it onwards and upwards. Our MD, David Osborne, Chairs the Marketing Committee of the BMA and has been involved with the planning of each conference to date - however, the hard work for the BMA show piece is undertaken by the Secretariat of the BMA. We are told that the planning is going well already…

Project 252 - A Year at Roman
Every week we get hundreds of Roman Product Guarantees, letters and communications in the post all with a stamp on the envelope. As you will see from the photo, this week alone we've had Olympic Stamps, religious stamps and even a farm yard one!
Instead of throwing these stamped envelopes away, we snip out the used stamp and save them up, but why? Well we donate them all to local charities. A charity can raise as much as £5 per kilo of used UK stamps and £19 for foreign stamps by selling to specialist collectors and dealers. A small everyday job for us can make a substantial difference to a charitable organisation.

Tomorrow at 10am, within the Business Design Centre London, the renowned Sleep Event will open. The two day event allows Roman to showcase new-to-market products specifically designed for the Hotel and Specification sectors. Roman will be launching our; Designer Magazine Gold Award Winning Project Specification Guide at the Event, key market exclusives such as our new soft closing hinge systems, as well as JTs showcasing their new Softstone shower floor on our Stand (M35A).
Today's photo was taken by our team down in London constructing our stand and enclosures ready for the opening tomorrow. The stand was created in-house several weeks ago (photographed on Day 203) and designed to be erected by our team of fitters and installers who would typically construct our retailer show room displays.

Project 252 - A Year at Roman
If you've seen a Roman Van on your travels or at your showroom, you will have noticed it features our branding, website address and further information. Today's 252 comes courtesy of our joinery department who are in charge of applying livery to new and existing Roman Vehicles. Our new van, photographed, is photographed getting it's Roman branding, Made in Britain logo and a unique QR code.
