For the first hem I use this, mostly bc it's easiest and also bc that is how Karyl showed me! It also is very helpful if you are hemming stretchy jeans (like I was). Hint: When you run a stretch fabric through a standard machine using a straight stitch (and non-stretchy thread) it helps to pull the fabric slightly as you sew.
(using the method I learned from Karyl)

It's here! It's here! Randi Rocks! It is all I can do to keep from running to the fabric store to choose my plain square fabric -- NOW!!
I made this Market Bag in class at Sew L.A. with some fabric that Tony's mom had given me. It folds up into its little pocket and is easy to carry around.

I watched Peggy Sayers on Sew Much More layout her fabric, lining and marking paper. She says she does this to save time when cutting and making garments. I try to incorporate this into my cutting time as well. I don't have the marking paper she used so I just do fabric and lining. I have to move the lining fabric around some as it is normally not as wide as the fabric I am cutting out.
I made the green & brown bag in class at Sew L.A., it was a gift for my grandmother. The brown & orange bag was my 2nd, and a gift for my mom. The Dia de los meurtos bag was my 3rd and a gift for my sister.

Here the owl is from the front. His little feet were wrapped with a fresh green ribbon to add a pop of color against his beautiful flamenco-inspired burgandy wings and tail.
I've been a little jazzed for crafts lately. Well, who am I fooling...I'm jazzed for crafts every freakin' day! This is a little project I've been working on called "The Haru Haruko Bag". It's a "work in progress" from the looks of my pics here, but I plan to finish it up soon...So more pics will pop up in this album. I've meant to make a large tote bag for a long time and I've been hording this vibrant dragon print fabric forever and a day...so it was only a matter of time until all these elements came together.
Pattern is from this awesome book called Amy Butler's Style Stitches.
Most of these pictures show the bag about 95% done. The interior of the bag is made of velveteen and cotton. Exterior is cotton and the sides and bottom panel are super sturdy cotton duck fabric. There are four lined pockets inside and four pockets at the sides of the bag. I need to sew button hole and the button...and attach the lining to the outer shell. After that, its all done. More pics are on the way since I plan to finish this up in the next couple days.
