Big Sur Coastline low tide. Long exposure

Another picture of me grasping for something that I can't express in words. It is both a summation of the past and future intermixed into some version of myself that doesn't exist. The hand is grasping for someone that is a hazy dream that happiness is predicated on.

I don't know.

Call it drama aha.

Looking across towards the Mull of Galloway lighthouse at sunset

This shot was taken in the Tucson Mountain Park during monsoon season at sunset, looking southwest into the Sonoran Desert. An intense monsoon storm, just to the south in Avra Valley, was producing strong downdraft winds, causing dust to rise high into the atmosphere. Combined with the sun's rays, this spectacular color event was created. This is number eleven in a series of sixteen shot on 8/13/07, west of Tucson Arizona.

This photo placed FIRST in "Nature's Pot-of-Gold", #2 Sunrise/Sunset Den {Round 30}. Thanks Everyone!

I love the silhouette of Stromboli volcano sitting somewhere between my lens and the setting sun. Also, the atmospheric ash particulate seemed to permeate the sea air. As the sun began to set, the light refractive effects became more and more evident, enabling this glowy capture. I've not seen a sunset quite like this one since!

The first photo with my new Canon EF-S 55-250mm lens :)

Eine Distel in der Abendsonne...

i know the quote doesn't really go with the shot, i just really dig it and something i am trying to remain aware of and practice.

had to take advantage of the settng sun through the blinds..had to rush to take the shot...notice the tiny hand in the lower right?

Coucher de soleil sur le massif de la Vanoise depuis la Toussuire dans le massif Arvan-Villards en Maurienne (Savoie).

At dusk, a rich palette of colors emerges from the cloud-laden sky and the lush vegetation. The magnificent colors surround the very same “House of the Rising Sun” that was captured during sunrise near Glossa village, Skopelos Isl., Greece.

The house's outline is no longer blurred or evanesced. The setting sun provides for interesting pictorial elements and emotions. The Night is about to begin…

Shot best viewed by simultaneously listening to The Animalsâ The House of the Rising Sun.

Train trip #14

Motion blurred fields

We were moving along the tracks at a good clip when I took this so I knew it was a risky shot. The sky was just so nice though and the view so relaxing.

A few degrees from the horizon, the dense fog produced one positive for me.

Mountains are awe-inspiring whatever season, but there's something about seeing them rising, snow-capped, above a landscape yet to be covered in snow as well that's breathtaking. These ones by Hof in the Eastfjords were stunning.

I was reminded of this sunset when I heard that the sea anglers were out in force in Rossnowlagh today. Can't wait to have a walk on this beach and see this big beautiful sky again.

I walked at Glenwood the other day. As I was leaving, I looked back and saw the lowering sun making the fields and trees look warm and autumnal, but in the shady parts it looked like a cool summer evening. So I braced on the fence and made a pano of it.

A multiple exposure image of a sunset as a test for the August 21, 2017 total solar eclipse, consisting of:

- One daylight unfiltered exposure of the initial sky and Sun, but masked to reveal just the bright overexposed Sun at the start of the sequence

- Multiple exposures of the Sun taken through a Seymour black polymer solar filter for 1/6 sec at f/4 and ISO 100, taken every 15 seconds, but a selection of frames taken every 5 minutes used here, and layered in with Screen blend mode. The 5-minite spacing works well for a still image composite but a time-lapse movie would require frames taken more often, such as every 15 seconds. Taking them that quickly assures you have all the frames you need for either end result. Just be sure the memory card has enough space for all the frames.

- A final unfiltered shot of the setting Sun, metered on Auto Exposure supplies the sky and foreground, and setting Sun itself on the horizon.

The test helped determine the best exposure for the filtered Suns, as well as the twilight sky on Auto Exposure, and layering methods.

Taken using a 16-35mm Canon zoom set to 20mm (similar to whatâs needed at my eclipse site), and Canon 6D.

The fleeting beauty of a sun that has set.

I’d like to thank everyone who left insightful comments about the topic I posted yesterday and it seems like we are all on the same wavelength about what makes a great photo. I think for the time being I’ll stick to the stuff I have and work with lenses before upgrading to another camera.

Although I haven’t been posting, I’ve been taking photos whenever I get the chance. So I decided one day to only shoot with my 17-40mm lens, which with a 1.6x crop turns into 27-64mm. I was very surprised to see how well it handled in the city. Although it’s not as wide as the 10-20mm sigma lens, I was able to get a lot of the scenes I wanted to shoot. It might be because of the longer focal length but it really did well handling barrel distortion in the city with all the building.

About the photo:

A handheld HDR taken with a canon 17-40mm lens. The shot is a vertorama composed of 6 shots. Each half is composed of two 3xp shots. Photomatix and photoshop was used for the processing.

Makes me want candy looking at this - lol. Looks like melted toffee or caramel. I took this at the Rideau Falls tonight - I was hoping for a nice sunset but alas it didn't happen. I should mention that this is pretty much straight out of the camera. The setting sun was hitting on the water to make for a beautiful effect.
