September 2022. A sad but necessary image tonight. Another apparent victim of avian Influenza H5N1 (HPAI).

Those who follow my photography will know how much I love watching and photographing these stunning seabirds. It is painful to see them getting washed ashore in this state, knowing there is nothing you can do to help.

H5N1 is thought to have started in domestic birds, before spreading to wild birds. It is impacting many seabirds, wildfowl and predator species.

Captured in SW London, September 2019

I've got lots of pictures from this weekends dressing adventure..

Although this may be my favourite outfit.

I am not sure if this was really refreshing. More like shocking and then it went straight up my nose and into my ears and brain with full force. I didn't know what 2+2 was for a few minutes.

But I got my photo for the day, so there ya go.

Last night's September full moon breaking through the clouds over Lake Michigan. The clouds were too thick for it to be seen as it came up over the Lake horizon. Six minutes later it finally showed itself here, nestled in a red glow...

Our visit to Dubai, United Arab Emirates in September 2014 : 6 nights / 7 days : From aviation, hotels to architecture, food / drinks, culture and beauty, Dubai and the UAE comes highly recommended by us. Now we look forward to many more beautiful memories in the future.

On September 14, 2025 I along with my wife and parents would enjoy our last ever ride aboard the Northstar. Personally all my rides on Northstar were for pleasure, usually taking a ride on my birthday, simple, easy, fun.

But it was really convenient as a Twins fan. On this day, we'd ride our last Twins special, something we'd done 9 times throughout the years (the Twins are 1-8 in games attended via Northstar, such is the life of a Twins fan).

Three and a half months later, Jan 4, 2026, Northstar made one last run, a special run. The last train is a Vikings special (done that once, 1-0). Specials usually filled the train more than usual commuters, but it was a great way to get to the stadium.

We'll still go to games, but not looking forward to traffic or parking.

cn 26269, delivered to Baikal Airlines as N321LF in 1994. Today a freighter with FedEx as N967FD.

On September 21, 1991, a farewell tour was organized for the NS 2400 series. Especially for this trip, the 2450 was repainted brown, the 2413 blue, and the 2530 purple. Together with the yellow/grey 2444, I and other participants made the trip in a DE3 (126 and 130). We departed from Geldermalsen, heading towards Boxtel. Here, the four locomotives passed by, after which we continued to Eindhoven. Subsequently, we awaited their arrival in Budel, after which shunting took place and the locomotives, along with the signal box and semaphore signals, could be photographed. The train was photographed again in the dunes. After another photo of the pass through Weert, we continued on to Roosendaal, where the 1501 and the last brown 2200, the 2275, were also present. Naturally, various photos were taken there with the semaphore signals and signal bridge. And finally, the train was awaited at Dordrecht, where I filmed its passage. However, these recordings have disappeared somewhere in the archive.....

Some time ago, I scanned my slides and then tried to make them verifiable. That will possibly be done again in due course....

During the September 11 attacks of 2001, 2,977 people were killed (excluding the 19 hijackers) and more than 6,000 others were injured. The immediate deaths included 265 on the four planes (including the terrorists), 2,606 in the World Trade Center and in the surrounding area, and 125 at the Pentagon. The attacks were the deadliest terrorist act in world history, and the most devastating foreign attack on United States soil since the attack on Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941.

Most of those who perished were civilians except for 343 firefighters and 71 law enforcement officers who died in the World Trade Center and on the ground in New York City, and another law enforcement officer who died when United Airlines Flight 93 crashed into a field near Shanksville, Pennsylvania, 55 military personnel who died at the Pentagon in Arlington County, Virginia, and the 19 terrorists who died on board the four aircraft. Overall, 2,605 U.S. citizens, including 2,135 civilians, died in the attacks, while an additional 372 non-U.S. citizens (excluding the 19 perpetrators) also perished, which represented about 12% of the total. More than 90 countries lost citizens in the attacks, including the United Kingdom (67 deaths), the Dominican Republic (47 deaths), and India (41 deaths).

2,974 victims were confirmed to have died in the initial attacks. In 2007, the New York City medical examiner's office began to add people who died of illnesses caused by exposure to dust from the site to the official death toll. The first such victim was a woman, a civil rights lawyer, who had died from a chronic lung condition in February 2002. In September 2009, the office added a man who died in October 2008, and in 2011, a male accountant who had died in December 2010.This raises the number of victims at the World Trade Center site to 2,753, and the overall 9/11 death toll to 2,996.

As of August 2013, medical authorities concluded that 1,140 people who worked, lived, or studied in Lower Manhattan at the time of the attack have been diagnosed with cancer as a result of "exposure to toxins at Ground Zero". It has been reported that over 1,400 9/11 rescue workers who responded to the scene in the days and months after the attacks have since died] At least 11 pregnancies were lost as a result of 9/11. Neither the FBI or New York City officially recorded the casualties of the 9/11 attacks in their crime statistics for 2001, with the FBI stating in a disclaimer that "the number of deaths is so great that combining it with the traditional crime statistics will have an outlier effect that falsely skews all types of measurements in the program's analyses."

Introduced in September of 1950 with the rest of the Hudson model line, the Hornet was based on the deluxe-sized Commodore and its 124-inch wheelbase Monobilt platform, but with special exterior trim, interior appointments, and H-theme Hornet emblems. Three body styles were initially offered: a two-door Club Coupe, a four-door Sedan, and a two-door Convertible Brougham. In its first year on the market, the Hornet became Hudson’s most popular model with nearly 44,000 sold. The price was $2,568, identical to a Commodore Eight. Of course, the Hornet’s truly special feature was its engine, the mighty H-145. Hudson lacked the financial resources to develop a modern overhead-valve V8, but it did have plenty of machine tools and know-how to suit the venerable flathead six. So the H-145 was essentially the old 262 CID Super Six bored and stroked to 308 CID and with some careful improvements. In baseline form the Hornet six was rated at 145 horsepower and 275 lb-ft of torque—more than competitive with the state-of-the-art Olds Rocket V8, which boasted 135 hp from 303 cubic inches.

Marshall Teague, a savvy NASCAR driver from Daytona Beach, Florida who had previously campaigned Lincolns, was quick to grasp the Hornet’s potential in stock car racing, recognizing its low center of gravity, battleship construction, and muscular engine. He managed to persuade Hudson management in Detroit to back his efforts, becoming the first racer in NASCAR with a factory sponsorship, it’s often said. The manufacturer developed special heavy-duty axles, chassis components, and the 7X engine, a factory-blueprinted H-145 with overbored cylinders, knurled pistons, and a trick camshaft, all offered over the counter. For their race car signage, Hudson campaigners adopted the company’s current ad tagline, “Fabulous Hudson Hornet,” creating one of the great racing logos of all time.

When Hudson and Nash merged on May 1, 1954 to create American Motors, the decision was made to discontinue the aged Hudson step-down platform, which now dated back seven years. The Hudson name was continued on a reskinned version of the Nash Ambassador, and for ’55, this second-generation Hornet could be had with the trusty 308 CID L-head six or a Packard-built 320 CID V8. But sales continued to dwindle, and by ’57 there was only one model in the Hudson line, badged as a Hornet. The last Hudson rolled off the line on June 25, 1957.

Fortunately, the Hudson Hornet story doesn’t end quite there. The 2006 Disney Pixar animated film Cars featured a beloved character named Doc Hudson, a retired stock car hero voiced by Paul Newman. As a result of the hit movie, the fabulous Hudson Hornet might be as recognizable to kids of today as a ’57 Chevy.

September 1977. Three SD40-2s, 6414, 6362 and 6364 are departing Enola Yard and crossing the famous Rockville Bridge eastbound.

Here we see Joni modeling her new dress in an upright position. Yes, it's short, but Joni loves the way it fits! It will fit even better once Joni can start exercising again and shed some of the excess weight she has been carrying around for the past several months dating back to that cruise to Bermuda last spring. Whoever donated this dress to the boutique, Joni thanks you very much!

Sunny September evening.
