Depression

-Rupi Kaur-

yesterday

when I woke up

the sun fell to the ground and rolled away

flowers beheaded themselves

all that's left alive here is me

and I barely feel like living

depression is a shadow living inside me

A Capybara interrupts his foraging for a quick scratch.

My favourite castle in England. This is Bamburgh Castle which lies on the north east coast in Northumberland. I have photographed this castle many times but this has a different mood. It was the first time I have been anywhere since November 2019 and I only had two days there. I was so happy to be there even in August. There were more people on the beach than I am used to as I usually go out of holiday season. I went because I had the chance to be there and I couldn't really turn it down. I've been itching to just be able to go somewhere and it was wonderful to have the opportunity to scratch that itch however briefly. This was taken on Sunday and it was a moody kind of day. It is certainly not among my favourite pictures I have taken here but the mood kind of feels right for the times we are living in.

Tri-Colored Heron

From Audubon:

On the southeastern coastal plain, the Tricolored Heron is a characteristic bird of quiet shallow waters. Strikingly slender, with long bill, neck, and legs, it is often seen wading belly-deep in coastal lagoons. Although it is solitary in its feeding, it is sociable in nesting, often in very large colonies with various other herons and egrets. Formerly known as Louisiana Heron.

Migration

Northward wandering after breeding not as pronounced as in some southern herons, but has strayed far to the north on occasion. Withdraws in winter from northernmost breeding areas, with some migrating far south; birds banded in South Carolina recovered in Cuba and Panama. Common all winter in south Florida and parts of Gulf Coast, where some are probably permanent residents.

On emerging, badgers often have a good scratch.

This calico kitty was spotted at a public park in Manzanillo, Mexico. The reflection (from a puddle) is real ... it's not a cat and paste :)

This decaying in log in the Bear Wood made a good scratching post for this lynx to sharpen her claws.

An American Oystercatcher enjoys a good scratch in the morning sun.

We circled the ice floe on which this crabeater seal was resting, waiting for a sign of life. Finally, he lifted one flipper to scratch himself, then went right back to sleep.

The crabeater seal (Lobodon carcinophaga), also known as the krill-eater seal, is a true seal with a circumpolar distribution around the coast of Antarctica. They are medium- to large-sized (over 2 m in length), relatively slender and pale-colored, found primarily on the free-floating pack ice that extends seasonally out from the Antarctic coast, which they use as a platform for resting, mating, social aggregation and accessing their prey.

A funny picture of the male wildcat scratching his cheek

... though with those scratchers it's done very, very carefully.

Los limícolas tienen muchas formas de rascarse la cabeza, los que tienen las patas más cortas lo hacen incluso por encima del ala. Lo que sí hacen todos por motivo de higiene, es sacudir y lavar bien la pata con la que se van a rascar

Waders have many ways of scratching their heads, those with shorter legs even scratch above the wing. What they all do for reasons of hygiene is to shake and wash well the leg they are going to scratch with.

It's been a while since I last posted on the "What have you done with the light?" album. Let the game continue...

It's good to have a long bill to get those hard-to-reach itchy spots. Glendale, Missouri

Lehigh Railway's 2nd job heads north through Wysox after swapping the lead unit due to what i believe to be an air issue. This was my first visit to the LRWY and i was very happy to get the 1751 leading, I will definitely be back again soon.

an old piano and the keys look like old crooked fingernails

Men “check” their testicles on average seven times a day, a survey suggests. Two thousand men were asked how often they touch themselves “down there”. While seven was the average, nearly a quarter (23%) admitted to putting their hands down their boxers at least 10 times a day.

- - - Who does this sort of research ?

Market stalls, Barcelona, Spain.

A simple capture with an old feel. My only artistic attempt to emphasize a lonely thistle which was sitting within a very busy and complex background filled with lines and grasses that distracted heavily from the main subject.
