...by which I lived my life at Comic-Con. I tear out the programming grid for the day, highlight it with hopefuls, and stuff it into my badge holder. The little accordion one is the pocket Coaster timetable, likewise jammed into my badge holder.

And sweet! exiftool can overwrite the aperture information so Flickr displays it correctly.

DPSC scheduled a last Eid photoshoot adventure which was set to Al Jumailiyah ruins in Qatar. The place is magnificent to all photographers who wanted to shoot different style of photography such as silhouette, dereliction, HDR, still, portraiture, etc.

Enjoy and have a great day my friends :)

super cute. you can prop it up as well; perfect on a desk.

The "To Sunset" schedule for TriMet's Line 89 (top) sounds like all trips start at the same stop, when half of them actually start at the stop across the street. The trip planner (bottom) shows that only the "B" trips actually stop there--that there really is no 6:31am, 8:31am, 10:31am, etc Line 89 bus at Stop ID 10039.

Not sure if this one's a rental or not. Houses scheduled for demolition or other forms of development tend to be. The veranda looks new enough but that yellow sign in the right corner is a development pre-approval sign. There was the same sign on the house across the road.

Some of these photos, the ones in full shade for example, need to be re-taken at some point. Learned my lesson when my favourite old shop was demolished before I got a photo. Now I take them when I see them.

ROSMAN, NC (January 19, 2015): On Monday night, January 19, Rosman High School celebrated its 50th annual Miss Bengal pageant. There couldn't be a better night for celebrating passionate students and future leaders in our schools.

Martin Luther King, Jr. said, “The function of education is to teach one to think intensively and to think critically. Intelligence plus character — that is the goal of true education.”

Rosman High School offers numerous programs targeting character education, both as part the curriculum and through clubs and service opportunities. The 50-year history of the Miss Bengal Pageant is one way Rosman High has reinforced the importance of character. The pageant has long taken place on the Monday night of semester break (with a Saturday snow date) for a variety of reasons.

Participants are evaluated on their talent, poise, future plans, and comportment: many of the things colleges and employers look for in our graduates, and their future students or employees.

This year's participants were:

Abby Buchanan ('18)

Blakely Owen ('16)

Madison Gingrich ('15)

Emma Henderson ('18)

Alexandria Galloway ('16)

Olivia Bishop ('16)

Robin Crowe ('17)

Jacey Voris ('15)

Claire Harris ('15)

Cassidy Knye ('16)

Madison Allen ('18)

Megan Brightwell ('16)

Shaylon Combs ('16)

Carli Batson ('15)

Hayleigh Mann ('15)

These highly-committed students, and many attendees, keep very busy schedules with school and extracurriculars, so the night is kept free for this special event, and tickets sell out weeks in advance.

The opening introduction and crowning were performed by Miss Bengal 2014, senior Hannah Reese. Former “Bengal” winners Loretta Sanders, Emily Reese Jones, Missy West, and Ashley Harris all emceed portions of the evening, from interviews and school dress, to the talent and evening gown competitions. Past winners Ashleigh Jamerson (Bengal ’12) and Hannah Reese performed talent at the intermissions as well.

RHS principal Donivan Edwards noted that, with a teacher workday scheduled before and after, students and staff had the run of the stage and school, setting up the elaborate stage design. Tammy Hall, teacher and pageant organizer, further explained how “Bengal” fits into Rosman High’s vision for character:

“I truly believe that Bengal is a very positive activity for the young women at Rosman High School. Bengal promotes community service, it builds character and confidence, and it allows students to reflect on who they are and what is important to them. The girls get to form relationships with people that they may not normally get to spend time with and they get to share their talent with everyone. Additionally, it provides a scholarship to the winner if they further their education after high school.

“I believe that Bengal does exactly what Mr. King was talking about in the quote mentioned above.”

The panel of judges included Dustin Cox, Jeremy Gibbs, Melody Gorman, Judy Edwards, and Tammy Reeves Duffy.

On the same night, RHS students also led the way during MLK activities centered around Brevard College. Rosman Middle and High chorus teacher Grayson Barton shared that Anna Carrillo (RHS ’16) and Casey Mesaeh (RHS ’15) both sang at Brevard College's MLK Celebration on Monday, January 19, at the Porter Center: “It was a big performance for them, and they both did an outstanding job!”

Oktoberfest (German pronunciation: [ɔkˈtoːbɐˌfɛst]) is the world's largest Volksfest (beer festival and travelling funfair). Held annually in Munich, Bavaria, Germany, it is a 16- to 18-day folk festival running from mid or late September to the first weekend in October, with more than six million people from around the world attending the event every year. Locally, it is often called the Wiesn, after the colloquial name for the fairgrounds, Theresa's meadows (Theresienwiese). The Oktoberfest is an important part of Bavarian culture, having been held since the year 1810. Other cities across the world also hold Oktoberfest celebrations that are modeled after the original Munich event.

During the event, large quantities of Oktoberfest Beer are consumed: during the 16-day festival in 2013, for example, 7.7 million litres (66,000 US bbl; 1,700,000 imp gal) were served.[1] Visitors also enjoy numerous attractions, such as amusement rides, sidestalls, and games. There is also a wide variety of traditional foods available.

The Munich Oktoberfest originally took place in the 16-day period leading up to the first Sunday in October. In 1994, this longstanding schedule was modified in response to German reunification. As such, if the first Sunday in October falls on the 1st or the 2nd, then the festival would run until 3 October (German Unity Day). Thus, the festival now runs for 17 days when the first Sunday is 2 October and 18 days when it is 1 October. In 2010, the festival lasted until the first Monday in October (4 October), to mark the event's bicentennial.OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Reasons for Designation

A standing cross is a free standing upright structure, usually of stone, mostly erected during the medieval period (mid 10th to mid 16th centuries AD). Standing crosses served a variety of functions. In churchyards they served as stations for outdoor processions, particularly in the observance of Palm Sunday. Elsewhere, standing crosses were used within settlements as places for preaching, public proclamation and penance, as well as defining rights of sanctuary. Standing crosses were also employed to mark boundaries between parishes, property, or settlements. A few crosses were erected to commemorate battles. Some crosses were linked to particular saints, whose support and protection their presence would have helped to invoke. Crosses in market places may have helped to validate transactions. After the Reformation, some crosses continued in use as foci for municipal or borough ceremonies, for example as places for official proclamations and announcements; some were the scenes of games or recreational activity. Standing crosses were distributed throughout England and are thought to have numbered in excess of 12,000. However, their survival since the Reformation has been variable, being much affected by local conditions, attitudes and religious sentiment. In particular, many cross-heads were destroyed by iconoclasts during the 16th and 17th centuries. Less than 2,000 medieval standing crosses, with or without cross-heads, are now thought to exist. The oldest and most basic form of standing cross is the monolith, a stone shaft often set directly in the ground without a base. The most common form is the stepped cross, in which the shaft is set in a socket stone and raised upon a flight of steps; this type of cross remained current from the 11th to 12th centuries until after the Reformation. Where the cross-head survives it may take a variety of forms, from a lantern-like structure to a crucifix; the more elaborate examples date from the 15th century. Much less common than stepped crosses are spire-shaped crosses, often composed of three or four receding stages with elaborate architectural decoration and/or sculptured figures; the most famous of these include the Eleanor crosses, erected by Edward I at the stopping places of the funeral cortege of his wife, who died in 1290. Also uncommon are the preaching crosses which were built in public places from the 13th century, typically in the cemeteries of religious communities and cathedrals, market places and wide thoroughfares; they include a stepped base, buttresses supporting a vaulted canopy, in turn carrying either a shaft and head or a pinnacled spire. Standing crosses contribute significantly to our understanding of medieval customs, both secular and religious, and to our knowledge of medieval parishes and settlement patterns. All crosses which survive as standing monuments, especially those which stand in or near their original location, are considered worthy of protection.

Despite having been partly restored the market cross at the junction of Bath Street, Union Street and Church Street, in Cheddar, retains some fine late medieval features. It provides a focal point at a junction of three roads in the town centre and is a highly visible reminder of the town's prosperous past.

Details

The monument includes a medieval market cross located in the town centre at the junction of Church Street, Bath Street and Union Street. The ashlar market cross which is Listed Grade II* was constructed in two stages. The initial stage of construction, dating from the 15th century includes a three stepped octagonal base surmounted by a socket stone which supports an octagonal shaft. The sides of the lower base step are 1.9m long and 0.56m high; the sides of the upper step are 1.1m long and 0.25m high. Each face of the socket stone is 0.45m wide and 0.9m high. The shaft is set into the socket stone and is square at the base, tapering to an octagon and crowned by a carved abacus with niches, each containing a sculpted figure. The second stage of construction took place during the 16th or 17th century and includes a hexagonal open arched structure which encloses the original cross. The six arches, formed by low buttressed piers, 1.9m apart and 3.2m high, support a solid embattled parapet which encloses a hexagonal tiled roof with wooden rafters through which the shaft passes. The original wooden rafters were replaced in 1834. Gargoyles with lead drainage pipes are mounted on each angle of the parapet. The present cross head was erected after 1877.

My waterfall hunting has been severely limited due to a very busy work schedule. However, I did find a little time this past Saturday morning to venture to Cedar Creek at Petit Jean upstream of Cedar Falls.

Most everybody has visited Cedar Falls at one time or another. I was eager to shoot a much lesser seen perspective. This shot is of the creek as it is about to make its' 95 foot plunge.

By the way, I don't recommend trying this vantage point because of the danger. If I had fallen into the creek and washed downstream, it would have been fatal.

Technically, I wasn't supposed to be shooting from this area due to red signs labeled Hazardous Area Unlawful Entry. However, my glasses were left in the car so it's possible that I didn't see the words correctly at the time. That's my story and I'm sticking to it. :)

Towards the upper left of the frame, a man and woman are sitting down admiring the view of Cedar Falls down in the canyon. When viewing the original size, I saw that they were apparently looking at a book together, most likely Tim Ernst's Arkansas Waterfalls Guidebook.

Even the crow asks for that!
