J.K.T International YN65 XDL Departing Berwick Upon Tweed Railway Station On Rail Replacement

Fleet number 665 in Brighton and Hove is seen here in an overall livery advertising Brighton and Hove Albion Football Team's contributions to the local community. It is a Scania N94UD with East Lancs Omnidekka bodywork that was new in September 2005. This company bought mainly Scanias for many years but recent orders have gone to Volvo or Wrightbus as Go-Ahead Group have taken more central control of bus ordering.

Scania N94UD's with East Lancs Omnidekka bodywork like this one were a much more common sight a few months ago but they are being withdrawn and replaced with other buses from the Go-Ahead London fleet, as seen by the variety of buses operating the 161 when I visted Woolwich on Monday.

Route 161 originally ran from Eltham to Chislehurst, replacing a withdrawn section of route 227 in 1938. It has changed a few times over the years but took its current form, North Greenwich to Chislehurst, when the Jubilee Line extension opened in 1999.

Route H98 was created in 1990 running from Hounslow Bus Station to Hayes End via Hounslow West, Cranford, Harlington and Hayes. Along with route U2 it replaced route 98 which used to run between Hounslow and Uxbridge (using a different route than the 222 which continues to link those two towns.)

It has not really changed since its creation and normally runs using ADL Enviro 200's - Scania N230UD Omnicity SP178 is seen here on the route - this could well be quite common as I don't come into contact with the route very often.

This bus is a Carsa CS40 bodied Scania N94UB, noticably with the standard Scania front.

Seen heading to The Spring Bus and Coach Gathering at Brooklands is preserved Leicester City Transport 301. New in March 1975, this is a Scania Metropolitan - a joint venture between Scania and MCW. Leicester was quite a fan of this type and bought a total of 68 between 1974 and 1977. I believe this is only survivor.

Route 388 was one of the new routes proposed when the congestion charge was being introduced in the early 2000's. It was proposed that it would run from South Hackney to Mansion House to relieve route 8 and demand on services along Hackney Road. It was also adding a bus service to Victoria Park Road, which did not previously have one.

It was introduced on 25th January 2003 running from Hackney Wick to Mansion House. CT Plus won the contract and bought a batch of East Lancs Myllennium bodied Dennis Tridents to operate the service. It was extended to Blackfriars Station in 2004, although the peak vehicle requirement remained unchanged at 11 buses.

In August 2008 it was further extended to Temple Station via Victoria Embankment. From Temple the buses ran out of service to and from Northumberland Avenue to stand and these stand journeys were livened up three months later. The peak vehicle requirement rose to 13 buses. In March 2012 it was withdrawn from that extension and the southern terminus returned to Blackfriars - I believe this came with a frequency increase as the vehicle requirement was not changed.

The next change was in December 2013. After the Olympics the Queen Elizabeth Park in Stratford was made a public space and new roads, initially built in the Olympic Park, became public. Route 388 was extended along these from Hackney Wick to terminate at Stratford City Bus Station.

Most of those original Tridents are still in service but they were topped up with some Scania N230UD Omnicities in early 2010. Fleet number SD5 is seen here in Waterden Road in the former Olympic Park. Those original Tridents (and maybe the Scanias) are not likely to be around for too much longer as the contract on the route runs out in January and an announcement is awaited. I would suggest it may be a candidate for some more ADL E400H Cities if CT Plus retain it, but we will see.

Route 277 dates from 1959 when it was created as a trolleybus replacement route. It ran from Cubitt Town to Smithfield. It gradually extended to Poplar from Cubitt Town - firstly on Sundays in 1961, on Saturdays in 1964 and daily by 1969. This was a gradual takeover of a previous route 56.

Skipping through a few minor changes, in 1989 the route was withdrawn between Limehouse and Poplar, replaced by route D7, except on Sundays. In 1990 it was diverted at Canonbury to operate to Highbury and Islington. The current version of route 56 took over to Smithfield at this point. Then in 1991 it was extended to Canary Wharf from Limehouse Monday to Saturday. The D7 got a Sunday service in 1993 with the 277 becoming Highbury and Islington to Canary Wharf on all days from this time.

In 1994 it was extended from Canary Wharf to Leamouth on Monday to Saturday, this becoming a 24 hours, every day working in 2003.

The route runs from Bow Garage and Scania Omnicity, fleet number 15115, is seen in Canary Wharf.

This Scania K series with Castrosua Magnus.E bodywork is seen having just departed the bus station at Faro De Maspalomas in the south of the island. It is heading off on route 90, which is semi fast service that operates via Playa Del Ingles, Altantico shopping centre and the airport to Telde in the north east of the island.

Scania Omnicity N230UD, fleet number SP140, was formally allocated to route 10 and when that route converted to New Routemasters the batch was refurbished to stay in Stamford Brook Garage and work the new contract for route E3. Occassionally they drift onto route E3 covering for a hybrid E400.

At Northfields, one day last week last week, I saw a couple of ADH's working the E3 which I hadn't seen before. Unfortunately my camera was not ready so I missed them.

In this photo fleet number 4500, an articulated Scania Citywide LFA, is carrying an advert for something most people would rather be travelling in! It is seen by Zoologischer Garten Station on route 109, which links this point to Tegel Airport. There is also a faster service between these same points, route X9.

Route 207 has the only Scania N230UD's Omnicities operated by Metroline (although there are some East Lancs Olympus bodied ones based at Perivale.) They were inherited from First, where they were also the only examples of the type. I understand that it was the only type that was available in time for the conversion of the route from bendy buses to double deckers. I believe they were the last of their type to enter in service in London before their manufacture was discontinued. SN1919 is seen in Uxbridge Road.

Route 207 was introduced in 1960 to replace trolleybus route 607 (maybe some inspiration for the limited stop version introduced in 1990...) It ran from Uxbridge to Shepherd's Bush Green.

In 2003 the route as cut back to Hayes By-Pass. Now to me that's an odd destination but it may mean more locally! Route 427 took over the route to the west. Finally, when Westfield and White City Bus Station opened in 2008 it extended there creating the current form of the route.
