In 1984 route 180 was withdrawn between Catford Garage and Lower Sydenham (except for Sundays) and route 181 was created to replace that section. The route started at Lewisham Bus Station and served previously unserved roads as far as Hither Green. The route became a seven day operation along with an extension to Surrey Quays (or Surrey Docks Station as it was then) to replace part of the original route P5 in 1985. It retrenched back to Lewisham in 1990 by which time it ran to Bellingham.
It then got a couple of extensions, firstly to Downham in 1994 and on to Grove Park in 2006 creating the current route.
Metrobus’s London operations are now part of Go-Ahead London and fleet number 607 is seen in Lewisham. This bus is an East Lancs Esteem bodied Scania Omnitown, officially classified as N94UB.
This bus is a recent transfer between sister companies London United and London Sovereign. It was running from Fulwell Garage until 21/08/15 when it appeared on route 71. It still carries London United logos and is an East Lancs Omnidekka bodied Scania N94UD.
Introduced in 1962 route 292 was a trolleybus replacement route that also took over the northern section of route 52. It ran as far as Willesden at that time, but never as an all day operation, and had settled at reaching Colindale as the main southern terminus by the early 1970's. London Sovereign have operated this route since 1998 plus another period beforehand.
This bus is most commonly running on route 267. Scania N94UD/ East Lancs Omnidekka SLE57 is seen at Kingston.
Route 65 is normally operated by newer Scania N230UD/Omnicities.

Despite travelling well beyond the TfL boundaries to Redhill, route 405 became a TfL route in 2001. Before that it was a commercial route operated by London and Country.
It was initially operated by Connex but a new contract in 2003 awarded it to Metrobus. It was initially operated from Crawley Garage, moved to Godstone and then to Croydon.
952 is a very late model East Lancs Omnidekka bodied Scania N230UD and it is seen in Croydon High Street. Most Omnidekkas were built on the previous N94UD chassis.

The ELS class of East Lancs Omnitown bodied Scania N94UB vehicles are exclusive in London. They were originally ordered by Durham Travel Services, trading as London Easylink. That company won the route on tender in January 2002. However in August of the same year that company went into liquidation and the route was transferred to TfL owned East Thames Buses. TfL sold East Thames Buses to Go-Ahead London and the buses transferred again. Since Go-Ahead took over the route was transferred from Mandela Way (the old East Thames base) to Camberwell in 2010, to Go-Ahead's Mandela Way base in 2012 and then back to Camberwell in 2014. This last transfer was to make room in MW for the tender win of route 100.
The class is now, at nearly 14 years old, being withdrawn. They are being replaced by SOE class Optare Esteem bodied ADL Enviro 200's made surplus by new buses in Merton and Sutton garages. They haven't all gone yet though and ELS11 is seen operating the route last Saturday.
Route 388 was born in 2003 and was one of the new routes created to improve bus services when congestion charging was introduced. It ran from Hackney Wick to Mansion House, largely mirroring route 8 but giving Victoria Park Road a bus service.
In 2004 it was extended to Blackfrairs Station, and in 2008 to Temple Station and then Embankment. It was cut back to Blackfrairs in 2012 and then extended to Stratford City in the east during 2013.
Most of the buses on the route are East Lancs bodied Dennis Tridents but there are a few Scania N230UD Omnicities such as SD5 seen in Bishopsgate.

London United (in Transdev ownership days), along with Metrobus and The East London Bus Group, have favoured Scania vehicles for double deck orders in the past. Integral Scania Omnicity N230UD was the last version to gain significant orders and SP96 from 2009 is seen in Kingston-Upon-Thames on route 281. This model is no longer available and although ADL bodies Scanias, none have been ordered for London service. RATP appears to have adopted a Wright/Volvo preference for recent orders, with Metrobus falling under Go-Ahead London vehicle policies and East London Bus Group bought back by Stagecoach.
Route 281 started in 1962 replacing trolleybus route 601 and running from Tolworth to Twickenham via Surbiton and Kingston. It was first extended to Hounslow in 1965 via route 73 (in the days when the 73 made it out west!)
With the odd peak hour extension added, that is how it has stayed operating from Hounslow to Tolworth. It runs out of Fulwell Garage with a peak requirement of 23 buses. At 11 miles long it is a substantial route by today’s London standards.
