The story behind the picture: This is from a women’s safe house in Western Kosovo. The founder of the NGO fled during the Kosovo War in 1999 with her two children, aged three and four. She had been told by her neighbors that they had five minutes to pack their belongings. She took two litres of milk and cookies. They escaped to a town in the southern part of the country, and walked the whole night into safety to Albania. In 2002, after her return, she launched a safe house for survivors of gender based violence in her home town. Eighty per cent of which had been completely destroyed during the war.

My album of beautiful birds:
High tide in Porthleven, and a clear difference between the relatively calm water inside the harbour, compared to the turbulent sea outside. I waited for a few minutes, camera ready, to include the gulls in flight, and due to the gusty wind I now have a film of crystallised salt to carefully clean off my camera lens.

The steam barge LUX was built and engined by W. J. Yarwood & Sons in Northwich for Lever Brothers. It entered service in 1950, and carried a variety of edible oils in two deck mounted tanks.
In 1966, the steam power-plant was upgraded with a Kelvin T8 diesel engine. As some cargoes required heating, a small steam generator was installed, feeding heating coils in each bottom of each tank.
Renamed to SAFE HAND in 1975, and becoming part of the National Historic Fleet in 1998. this barge remained in commercial operation until 2018. Currently in private ownership and undergoing restoration

The complications I had when shooting this is just beyond ridiculous. I almost gave up because I wasn't happy with any of the photos taken and how I was posing.. but I managed to make this one work. I'm creating an entire series on these photos and I'm going to have my sisters model for the rest of the images. I'm excited! :)

After the September 2010 Christchurch earthquake liquefaction poured out of the ground mostly in the East of Christchurch. This silt, which was a form of sand was declared safe and would not harm gardens if it was spread around in moderation. After the February 2011 quake as a result of even more liquefaction and the sewers being ruptured, the liquefaction was declared as toxic. People clearing it up should wear a mask, boots and gloves especially when it had dried up and become dusty.
This just so happens to be the words found on an old printing press.
