Safe landing IMG_1334

A well marked and distinctive warbler, the sexes are dissimilar with the male with a black cap, and the female seen above with a chestnut cap, note also the pale eye ring. ONE of the few birds where I think the female is better looking than the male.

Seen at Strumpshaw Fen, my sincere thanks to the T.V personaltity, Naturalist Photographer, Elizabeth Dack, for all her help. This was a long weekend with family, on the Norfolk Broads, but had to slip away with my camera early, hope I was not missed....lol.

True friends see who we really are, hear our words and the feelings behind them, hold us in the safe harbor of their embrace, and accept us as we are.

As the sun was setting those colors looked beautiful,

I am in front of the waterfall looking at the birdhouse,

Soon they will be tenants there,

Happy New Year everyone - all the best for 2017!

May I present the harbour at Clovelly, North Devon. A delightfully safe haven. Go there in winter and stay at the Red Lion. I did. You should too.

I have been away, photographing the coasts of North Cornwall and North Devon alongside eleven like-minded individuals from BRCC. A bloody marvellous time was had by all.

Thanks to everyone for your visiting, favs & comments :).

The sun is about rise over the creek there in Middle River, located just off the Chesapeake Bay.

An interesting tidbit ... this is the location just off the point there with the trees where the Stealth Fighter crashed during an airshow back in 1997. This whole area was full of boats watching the show ... it was amazing know one was hurt or killed, and the pilot ejected safely.

Taroona Beach, Tasmania.

I captured this image just as the female Bushtit was landing and I was able to get the motion in her wings and tail.

As a follow-up to my post of yesterday. the situation in this photo is very similar to that image. A moose cow was bedded down off to the right of this image and this bull was very close by. Only this time I happened to be at a very close distance. This is full frame - no crop. Now a bull moose is rather large, so filling the frame means a good 25 yards or more away, which is considered a safe distance from an animal such as this. However, it was during rut, which means they can be unpredictable. Luckily there was a small creek between us and I was constantly watching him with my escape route already planned. He was not bothered by my presence (and a few other photographers) and if anything he moved closer to the cow which meant closer to me. I kept wishing he would raise his head, but wild animals seldom comply with our subliminal suggestions. Shortly after this shot he bedded down for the day as well.

Thanks so much to everyone who takes the time to view, like or comment on my photos!

"Strong legs and a long, decurved bill give Curve-billed Thrashers the perfect tools for hunting insects in the punishing deserts, canyons, and brushlands that are its home. That long bill also keeps long-legged insect prey at a safe distance and comes in handy for foraging and nesting among spiny plants, especially cacti. This species is so typical of the deserts of the American Southwest and northern Mexico that its whistled whit-wheet call is often the first vocalization that visiting bird watchers learn." - Cornell Lab of Ornithology

ZIL 130 Fire truck

The ZIL-130 is a Soviet/Russian truck produced by ZIL in Moscow, Russia. The first prototype was built in 1956. Production began in 1962, while mass production started in 1964. It was one of the most numerous cargo trucks in the USSR and Russia, in total ZIL built 3,380,000 trucks up to 1994.

As my native country after WW2 was included in Soviet Union we had all the technique that was produced in Russia or in other Soviet Republics. We became free 1991, our pre war independence had been restored but all technique was still used in different departments...Now it is quite a task to find those trucks..

Happy Truck Thursday!

"I could show you love

In a tidal wave of mystery

You'll still be standing next to me

You could be my luck

Even if we're six feet underground

I know that we'll be safe and sound."

A replica of one of the three ships that Christopher Columbus led to the Americas in 1492, the Nao Santa Maria is one of nearly a dozen vessels that are part of the 2019 Tall Ship Celebration this weekend in Bay City, Michigan. It is shown here approaching Bay City on the Saginaw River last Thursday, and was processed in a vintage style for Sliders Sunday. Unfortunately, it wasn't under sail when photographed, and yes, I realize that the occupants aren't exactly wearing period clothing either. Oh well. :-)
