While out to capture some images on World Photography Day 2024, I meandered downtown Ontario Street in Grimsby, Ontario and proceeded to do a bit of image hunting while in that area. Just off Ontario Street sits the Grimsby Public Library and from the there I looked back toward Ontario Street and spotted a child’s colourful toy plastic lawnmower tucked safely below the adjacent building’s stairs to an upper level. The dark, weathered, near monochromatic wood with its textured provided a nice contrast to the bright, colourful, smooth plastic of the mower. - JW

Taken using hand-held Nikon D800 fitted with an AF-S Nikkor 24-120mm VR 1:4.0 lense set to 112mm, ISO180 (Auto ISO), Daylight WB, Matrix metering, Shutter Priority Mode, f/4.0, 1/250 sec with an EV-0.33 exposure bias. PP in free Open Source RAWTherapee from Nikon JPEG source file: set final image size to be 9000 px wide, apply Tone Mapping at default levels, use the Tone Equalizer darken the Shadows, use the Graduated Filter tool to darken the stairs are in the upper left, slightly increase Contrast and Chromaticity in L-A-B mode, apply sharpening (edges only), save. PP in free Open Source GIMP: use the Curves tool to pull up (darken) the bottom 20% (approx) and then also darken the top 20% while leaving the mid tones alone, sharpen, save, scale to 6000 px wide, sharpen, save, add fine black-and-white frame, add bar and text on left, save, scale image to 3000 px wide for posting online, sharpen very slightly, save.
This cedar provides the American Goldfinch with food, shelter from the wind and cold, and camouflage from predators.
Not for the wee boats , but for 'H' and I! Down here it can get pretty muddy and there's tales of sinking sands drilled into my head from childhood. A quick nip out for fresh air and sunset the other evening, but this was as far as I felt comfortable with 'H' on my own......we can safely do the little jump and a few muddy footsteps from the edge of the promenade - so this composition had to do!

It was amazing to watch the process of this Yellow-crowned Night Heron hunting and eating its crayfish. It was seemingly relaxed from my perspective. Obviously it was hunting very intently. When it spotted the crayfish it elongated its neck and stalked over. A fast stab and it had the prey! It maneuvered the snapping crayfish until it was able to crush the tail. Then it manipulated the creature in its bill until both claws were off. Only then did it swallow it whole. Coolest experience ever.....especially five feet in front of me!
Is the angel praying for the pedestrians safe passage while the chameleon type creature waits patiently to gobble them up ...
the highest tide for a long time coupled with high winds made for a crammed Whitstable harbour today, many worried fishermen securing ropes to keep boats safe, with one rope even snap cracking before my eyes.....this is really the time when the harbour returns to the preserve of the fishermen, when it's windy and cold the constant stream of visitors that Whitstable seems to attract these days are clearly looking for a safe house.
Bowling Ball Beach is a part of Schooner Gulch State Beach, in Mendocino County, California, in the United States. It is named for the spherical sandstone concretions found there at low tide.

Gleaming at a distance like a small landed UFO, this guy had just safely crossed the road at Chickasabouge Park...his shell was so clean that it looked like he'd just been through a car wash and polish!
In addition to the pair of Duple 300-bodied Tigers mentioned in my previous photograph, Edwards purchased an 11m Dennis Javelin with the same bodywork in 2009. She had been new to Shetland operator John Leask & Son of Lerwick, and subsequently also operated for South Lancs Travel.
Allocated by Edwards to school contract work, the tin of 'safe' yellow paint applied to the Tigers was also used on the Javelin.
This shot from July 2010 shows her returning from an afternoon school contract on Bridge Street in Pontypridd.
She was withdrawn and scrapped the following year.

Oh I am SO excited about these little guys! Uhh!! This is just one of the two nests that are in my backyard with 3 Robin's eggs in each nest. Mom flew away for a bit and I snatch this opportunity up real quick.
Wow are they just perfect in every single way. I hope they all make it!
Sheltered from the, now nightly, frosts, a little group of purple asters in the late afternoon sun. For ones so little, they are surprisingly hardy. :)
