One of the things ingrained in my being since childhood has been acceptance. I grew up in a diverse background, with all nationalities, all disabilities, all differences. And for this, I am grateful.
I grew up in the heart of LGBTQAI+ land in my hometown. I feel this was by divine intervention. Because of this, I have learned just from existing that no matter who you are, or how you identify...you matter.
If you struggle with your identity, how you feel you should identify, or feel cast out because of who you are...just know you are safe with me. And you have a friend when you need it.

The supply ship Atlantic Shrike returns safely from the perilous seas of the North Atlantic Ocean, passing below the Queens Battery just inside the Narrows of the port of St John's Newfoundland. St. John's is one of the oldest cities in North America, appearing on a Portuguese map from the 1500s...it began as a fishing camp and flourished from the bountiful catch of Atlantic Cod near the shores of Newfoundland! I recently had the pleasure of visiting here and enjoyed my time there quite a lot!
This is another photo of the series I took yesterday of Linus, the cat, and Mandy, the mouse. Linus was unusally nice to the mouse but I suppose he was just too tired for mischief. There was a thunderstorm coming and this kind of weather always makes him drowsy. :)
Revisiting a shot from our 2017 trip to South Africa. This was taken at Elephant Whispers in Hazeyview, South Africa near Kruger Park. This is rescue preserve, and the animals are around humans from a very young age, which lets me get this close (with a telephoto lens) safely.

Today, the Federal Railroad Administration released their proposed crew rule. In it, the FRA proposes to regulate the size of crews that must be on most freight trains, requiring that an engineer and a conductor are on the train. It also includes limited exceptions for, and a process to approve, single person operations. This rule is the result of a lot of things, but has been ironically pushed over the finish line by the "precision scheduled railroading" philosophy of "he who shall not be named." PSR has forced Class 1 railroads in a race to the bottom as they instituted leadership teams solely focused on cutting costs, on a blind and dangerous path to where we are now. But they are learning the hard way, as are many American businesses, that it is PEOPLE who make your operation run. And as they struggle to fix the self-inflicted damage, an industry which has gone largely unregulated since the Staggers Act, is facing more (and might I say necessary) scrutiny on their operations. I chose this photo, because it emphasizes the importance of the two-person crew in hard situations, such as a car taking out a crossing gate at a busy intersection in Ashland Virginia: it required signal maintainers, dispatchers, engineers, and conductors to safely coordinate the movement of Q410 (it was Q back when this was taken) through downtown Ashland. It is quite ironic that the philosophy of a man who tried to take the people out of railroading ended up being what drove the government to regulate and require them. It shows what happens when you take a philosophy too far, and become path dependent. The E. Hunter Harrison rule- a legacy to always remember.
So, I did a thing. And that thing was redesigning SWF.

Whoop whoop, can't believe it's Friday already, where on earth did this week go?
On Easter Tuesday, Mum and I went to Roe Valley, Limavady. The wee lambs were making sure they stayed safe right next to their mother.
Wishing you all a very happy fence Friday and a lovely wekeend. The sun is out at the moment, fingers crossed that it stays that way for a while :)

The tug had just came in as the storm approached. The sky was very strange that night. The blue on the horizon is what it really looked like.

One of the two ocean pools located in Kiama in New South Wales. The east coast abounds in these tidal pools and they make for wonderful elements to be included in coastal compositions. I called this photo "Safe Heaven" because these pools give swimmers great protection from the rough seas (and sharks).
