One of the two ocean pools located in Kiama in New South Wales. The east coast abounds in these tidal pools and they make for wonderful elements to be included in coastal compositions. I called this photo "Safe Heaven" because these pools give swimmers great protection from the rough seas (and sharks).

The four configurations of cardinal buoys indicate the safe side
of a danger with an approximate bearing. For example, the North cardinal buoy has safe water on its North and the danger on its South side.
In the foreground you can see a tube for beach nourishment.

After the September 2010 Christchurch earthquake liquefaction poured out of the ground mostly in the East of Christchurch. This silt, which was a form of sand was declared safe and would not harm gardens if it was spread around in moderation. After the February 2011 quake as a result of even more liquefaction and the sewers being ruptured, the liquefaction was declared as toxic. People clearing it up should wear a mask, boots and gloves especially when it had dried up and become dusty.

Ever since 635, when King Oswald gave the Holy Island of Lindisfarne to St Aidan to establish his monastery, the island has been a place of pilgrimage. The road was not constructed until 1954 and until then the vertical poles were the only indicators of the safe route between the mainland and island.
If you look at the image at 100% in the distance you can make out the halfway refuge for those unwary enough to be caught by the tides.
