Sunday morning coffee with old friends. Dot, her daughter Jane and Gwen. I worked with all three at Knowle Hospital and also worked with Jane at the Meadows. Not seen Jane for about 15 years, but she started work at Knowle Hospital the same year as me way back in 1977 :-)

i've spent most of my day running around in the cold running errands. it's nice to sit down and relax some.
As photographers sometimes the fruits of our labor are not monetary. I'm still working on this images editing but this is from a new set of stock photography I'm building. And, the joy is enjoying the warm chocolate delights of this special samtheman's mocha heaven.
Just another blessed and beautiful Sunday afternoon of editing, laundry, shopping and then playing tennis. Life is good! Have a great Sunday Flickr!
GAZA, PALESTINE, April 13 - Following a Sunday morning worship service, members of the Greek Orthodox Church of Saint Porphyrius, which turned 1,607 this year, held a procession marking Palm Sunday, the Christian feast that celebrates Jesus' triumphal entry to Jerusalem. The festivities come a week before Pascha, or Easter, which will be celebrated next Sunday, April 20, in an unusual convergence of the Eastern and Western church calendars. (Photo by Joe Catron)

(Kashgar, east China, Nov. 1999 - scan of the old print of a slide).
The huge market which is held every Sunday in Kashgar is really impressive, some say that more than 100,000 people gather there from neighbouring villages for the occasion sometimes. Apart for the livestock market (where horses, camels, goats and sheeps are sold), which has been relocated far in the countryside for practical reasons, the other commodities are still mostly sold on the outskirts of the city, in the streets to the north east and in various covered sections that are divided according to the goods sold :
... for instance, there is a very big hat section, as almost everyone has his/her head covered, and the variety of hats for men is vast, also a boots section, where the typical "gallosh" are also sold (the area was under Russian influence for sometime, etc).
In this market, one can spend the day easily, there are also typical restaurant in its centre, where noodles are made in front of you (those famous noodles, that Marco Polo is supposed to have imported towards its native Italy where they were adapted into the local version of spaghettis)
It is impossible to describe all the goods sold there : the variety in unimaginable...
Top left of the photo, elements of the architecture dating from beginning 20th century : unfortunately, the old buildings are disappearing at a very fast pace, replaced by uninteresting concrete structures, and in the very centre of this flat city, dominated only by its mosques, new uggly high rise buildings which are adorning all the Chinese cities with their "bathroom style" on the facades : white faience and windows with blue glasses, this so-common cheap style being now slowly replaced by more prestigious, even higher skyscrapers.
I could also comment more about the clothes and fashion in make up for women, but it would become too long. Just the woolen brown veils that the elderly women are still carrying are worth noticing.
++++++++++++
(Some quotes from the Lonely Planet, Central Asia : "Kashgar has been a Silk Road trading centre for two millenia and traders from Kazakstan, Kyrgyzstan, Pakistan and even Russia... continue to fuel the city... Kashgar experiences blistering hot summers, although at 1290m above sea level it's cooler than Turpan, Kucha and other stops along the Xinjiang section of the Silk Road").

Prayers for those without power, those whose homes are flooded or in danger, those who have great losses and for those of us who are just dealing with the day to day challenges of living. A reminder that warm happy days will be here again. Soon!

The Sunday before Holy Week
Holy Week celebrations begin on Palm Sunday, which was declared a Fiesta of International Tourist Interest in 1997.
The day’s main act is the Palm Procession which in Elche is of especial significance due to the large number of blanched palm leaves produced in the city’s palm groves and borne through the streets by the faithful.
The procession, commemorating Christ’s triumphant entry into Jerusalem, has always had a large following and has become one of the most characteristic and popular expressions of Elx’s cultural identity.
The first documented evidence concerning Diumenge de Rams, Palm Sunday, dates from 1371, when the Consell de la Vila, or Town Council, took part in the celebrations, distributing alms.
Trade in blanched palm leaves was documented in an entry in the Town Hall records from 1492 and it has continued to the present day. For centuries blanched palm leaves from Elche have been exported to the entire Catholic world.
Special mention must be made of the woven palm leaves that are entered in the competition organised by the Council of Holy Week Guilds and Brotherhoods. These leaves depict complex figures related to the events of Holy Week or Elche’s monuments and traditions.
In the Municipal Park, Elche Town Hall has instituted a Blanched Palm Leaf Craft Workshop. This is located in a medieval flourmill (el Molí del Real) and the objective of the initiative is to ensure the survival of traditions and crafts related to Elche’s palm grove.
Londonderry. Northern Ireland.
Bloody Sunday (Irish: Domhnach na Fola) — sometimes called "the Bogside Massacre" — was an incident in Derry, Northern Ireland, on 30 January 1972. Twenty-seven civil rights protesters were shot by members of the 1st Battalion of the British Parachute Regiment during a Northern Ireland Civil Rights Association march in the Bogside area of the city. Thirteen people, seven of whom were teenagers, died immediately, while the death of another person 4½ months later has been attributed to the injuries he received on the day. Two protesters were injured when they were run down by army vehicles. Many witnesses, including bystanders and journalists, testify that all those shot were unarmed. Five of those wounded were shot in the back.
"Sunday Bloody Sunday" is the opening track from U2's 1983 album, War. The song was released as the album's third single on 11 March 1983 in Germany and The Netherlands."Sunday Bloody Sunday" is noted for its militaristic drumbeat, harsh guitar, and melodic harmonies. One of U2's most overtly political songs, its lyrics describe the horror felt by an observer of The Troubles in Northern Ireland, mainly focusing on the Bloody Sunday incident in Derry where British troops shot and killed civil rights marchers.

I set out Sunday morning to photograph the Moonset over San Francisco. At the first location I wanted to go I wasn't too comfortable going alone, so Diva Dog and I moved to plan B where we watched the Moonset. I can't complain too much about plan B’s location the Moon was gorgeous, big, and the colors in the sky were lovely! Thankfully the fog stayed behind the city and then burned off later.
I spent the rest of the day with No 1 Grandson and family. I hope you all had a beautiful Sunday, and have a great week.

Sunday haul ...return of the single issue comics! I must say that it has been quite some time since I last bought any single issues (I've been strictly a TPB guy for the past several years). That small book is a compilation of mini comics drawn by local Malaysian artists, one of it being my close friend. And what is a 'haul' without any actual action figures right? Picked up my Star Wars 6" Black Series IG-88 from my usual pusher dude and that loose Ann O'Brian from another trader today fr a custom job.
