St Pierre is a former parish and hamlet in Monmouthshire, south east Wales, 3 miles (4.8 km) south west of Chepstow and adjacent to the Severn Estuary. It is now the site of a large golf and country club, the Marriott St Pierre Hotel & Country Club, which was previously a large manor house and deer park belonging to the Lewis family.
The manor of St Pierre was originally part of the parish of Runston, now a deserted village whose only standing remains are Runston Chapel, and was later amalgamated for civil purposes with the neighbouring parish of Mathern. It is uncertain whether the name originates from a Welsh family, Pŷr, or is of Norman origin.
Around 1380, St Pierre was owned by Sir David ap Philip, who served under King Henry V in France, and the name of his son, Lewis, was later adopted by his family and descendants as their surname. The estate continued in the ownership of the Lewis family until 1924, although they had moved out of the mansion to the neighbouring Moynes Court in the late 19th century. The last member of the family to own the estate was Air Commodore Freke William Wiseman-Clark, who died without issue in 1908. Thomas Lewis, Esq., married the daughter of Sir Richard Levett, Lord Mayor of London, and other Lewis family members also made propitious marriages. Several members of the family became High Sheriffs of Monmouthshire. Others became Members of Parliament, including Thomas Lewis who was MP for Monmouth, Newport and Usk between 1713 and 1752. His family took over and developed the "New Passage" ferry service across the Severn from Black Rock, in competition with the "Old Passage" service run from Beachley by the Duke of Beaufort. In 1925, the mansion and deer park were sold to Daniel Lysaght.
The former manor house includes an important 16th-century gatehouse which is a Grade II* listed building, but the remainder of the building was largely built in the 19th century. Major extensions have been added since the house became a hotel in the 1960s. It was bought by Tintern Abbey Hotels in 1961, and a golf course (now "the Old Course") was opened in 1962 with a second course in 1975.

BNSF's westbound Y-STL117 or "Madison Turn" has gotten some interesting power assigned. The Madison Turn is a daytime transfer from BNSF Lindenwood Yard to the TRRA Madison Yard and return. The BNSF and TRRA take turns throughout the year providing the power and crews and it's currently the BNSF's turn. The Madison Turn is on duty at Lindenwood in the morning for the late morning run to Madison. After some switching and doubles, the train is usually returning through St. Louis in nice afternoon light.
A nice easy chase through the city put us on the Jefferson Ave overpass for a nice view of downtown St. Louis with Union Station on the left and the Arch on the right. Ahead is the Grand Ave interlocker and the return to home rails for the last couple miles to Lindenwood.

The sky looked promising tonight so made the hour and a half round trip to St Marys Lighthouse.

Big spring tides at St Abbs made for an interesting afternoon. Clambered down into a bay and eventually found a good comp as loads of rocks and couldn't get too close to the waters edge due to the big swells coming in. Rain started shortly after this but had a great afternoon discovering new areas along the coast that are not easily accessed.
My car has now officially died so wont be taking many photos until I can get a new one.

This beautiful church is St. Oswalds at the top of Lythe bank on the way to whitby. It's open to the public most days.

Blick auf die Kanzel in der Kirche in Rannungen an der Nordseite des KIrchenschiffes, wobei ich mir nicht sicher bin, ob das der ursprüngliche Standort war, denn der Treppenaufgang läßt auf einen anderen Standort schließen. Eine sehr schöne frühbarocke Arbeit. Der große Engel auf dem Schalldeckel korrespondiert mit dem Engel am Orgelprospekt (s.u. im Kommentarbereich).

Glendalough

Die Erzabtei Sankt Ottilien (lat. Archiabbatia Sanctissimi Cordis Iesu ad Sanctam Ottiliam) ist ein Kloster der Missionsbenediktiner im oberbayerischen Landkreis Landsberg am Lech (nahe dem Ammersee), der zur Diözese Augsburg gehört.
Die Klosterkirche (Patrozinium Herz Jesu) wurde von 1897 bis 1899 nach Plänen von Hans Schurr erbaut. Ihr spitzer, 75 Meter hoher Turm ist bereits aus großer Entfernung zu sehen. Das dreischiffige Gotteshaus wurde im Stil der Neugotik errichtet und 1903 geweiht. Der Kirchenbau wurde – wohl aufgrund von Protesten der umliegenden Gemeindepfarreien – um ein Gewölbe kürzer ausgeführt als ursprünglich geplant.
