St Paul's Cathedral is a Church of England cathedral dedicated to Paul the Apostle.[1] It sits at the top of Ludgate Hill, the highest point in the City of London, and is the seat of the Bishop of London and the mother church of the Diocese of London.
The present building dates from the 17th century and was designed by Sir Christopher Wren. It is generally reckoned to be London's fifth St Paul's Cathedral, all having been built on the same site since AD 604. The cathedral is one of London's most famous and most recognisable sights. At 365 feet (111m) high, it was the tallest building in London from 1710 to 1962, and its dome is also among the highest in the world. In terms of area, St Paul's is the second largest church building in the United Kingdom after Liverpool Cathedral.
Important services held at St Paul's include the funerals of Lord Nelson, the Duke of Wellington and Sir Winston Churchill; Jubilee celebrations for Queen Victoria; peace services marking the end of the First and Second World Wars; the marriage of Charles, Prince of Wales, and Lady Diana Spencer, the launch of the Festival of Britain and the thanksgiving services for both the Golden Jubilee and 80th Birthday of Queen Elizabeth II. St Paul's Cathedral is a busy working church, with hourly prayer and daily services.
October 13, 2016: Possibly the most beautiful sight out of a port the whole trip. A rainbow appeared as we were sailing away from St. Maarten. I only had my cell phone for a picture, but I got the beautiful sight.

St Giles' Cathedral, also known as the High Kirk of Edinburgh, is the principal place of worship of the Church of Scotland in Edinburgh.
The oldest parts of the building are four massive central pillars, often said to date from 1124, although there is very little evidence to this effect. In 1385 the building suffered a fire and was rebuilt in the subsequent years. Much of the current interior dates from this period. Over the years many chapels, referred to as 'aisles', were added, greatly enlarging the church and leaving it rather irregular in plan. In 1466 St Giles was established as a collegiate church by Pope Paul II.

Years ago, I used to live in this building, on the third floor (where one of the windows is slightly open).
This is a revisited photo from St. Oysth in Essex taken back in March 2017. I had only been shooting for 2 months when I took this and my editing skills were very limited. I recently updated my website @ www.aronradford.com and wanted a shot from St. Oysth in Essex on my Essex page. I really liked this boat and the composition and decided to re-edit it and I must say it came out so much better than the original edit.
I put Woody in his smart green collar for St Patricks day. Only to find his neck is so furry its almost impossible to see it. Happy St Patricks day all the same...
The St. Pierre Cathedral is a cathedral in Geneva, Switzerland, today belonging to the Reformed Protestant Church of Geneva. It is known as the adopted home church of John Calvin, one of the leaders of the Protestant Reformation. Inside the church is a wooden chair used by Calvin.
It was begun under Arducius de Faucigny, the prince-bishop of the Diocese of Geneva, around 1160. It was originally built in Romanesque style and was completed a hundred years later in Gothic style. A Neo-Classical main facade was added in the 18th century.
The area beneath the Cathedral has recently been excavated extensively, revealing a history of the site dating back to the time of the Roman Empire.[citation needed] From the 8th to 10th centuries it was one of three cathedrals to coexist on the site. The present building has grown from a cathedral devoted to ecclesiastical use and an early Christian funerary cult; the other two structures, subsumed in the 12th century by the growth of the surviving building, were apparently for different uses, one for public sacraments and the other for church teachings.
The German painter Konrad Witz painted an altarpiece, the so-called St. Peter Altarpiece, for the Cathedral in 1444, now in the Musée d'Art et d'Histoire, Geneva, which contains his composition, the Miraculous Draught of Fishes.

Der Blick von der Empore zeigt nochmals sehr gut die barocke Schönheit der Kirche in ihrer Gesamtheit. Wie ich schon an anderer Stelle schrieb: Bei dieser Kirche macht die einheitliche Geschlossenheit, bzw. die Gesamtkomposition, den Reiz aus. Ein Wunder, dass dieses Kleinod die Zeiten überdauert hat.
