Interestingness - Top 500 (June 26, 2006 #333)
I took this about a month ago. The weather was so weird that day, with thunderstorms over the mountains and amazing cloud formations. The air felt ominous. I looked up and this was what was above me. The light streaming from the clouds was brilliant.
Un atardecer precioso sobre Barakaldo a orillas de la ria de Bilbao. Los tonos que formo el cielo por un momento parecian magicos y con el gasolino cruzando la ria en uno de sus últimos viajes del dia le daba un aire nostalgico.
A cosy prospect on a very cold, frosty day. D335/40135 waits to pass a steam train at Ramsbottom on the East Lancashire Railway.
This was one of those fountains that definitely had more features than it listed on the packaging. Then again, most of the fireworks we fired off were vague, at best, at what they did. Surprises, though, can be quite pleasant when you're not downwind of them.
All of the athletes, officials and coaches are now gathered in the centre of the Olympic Stadium and a burst of fireworks celebrates this. The audience's LED lights are showing Olympic Rings across the stadium.
At this point the position of the Olympic Flame is still not obvious to me or those around me. Well disguised to the very end. We could see the black pyramid in the middle, but an Olympic Flame never goes in the middle of the athletics field, does it?
Spectacular view of one of the busiest and most beautiful air facilities in the world.

All the rain missed us but I bet Photomajik got it. Pic came out dark due to settings on the camera & the angle it was taken.
This morning the sun (as seen from Dysart) rose between the Bass Rock and Craigleith Island. In this shot it is entering ribbon cloud just above Craigleith Island. A small cruise ship the MSC Lirica can be seen silhouetted just to the left of Berwick Law.

We've been blessed with some cooler weather this week! It's a wonderful break from the normally oppressive heat & humidity this time of year. You can see the cooler weather in the sky. Look how crisp & clear everything is!

This beautiful tree is huge, overlooking Broken Bay. On the left flowering in pink is an eriostemon.
I realise it doesn't look so impressive, but it's a stitch of 12 wide angle shots necessary to get it all in (including some more at the top and right).
A spectacular view from the Sky Bridge of the Pinnacle@Duxton overlooking the Central Business District, Tanjong pagar and Chinatown. There is one setback for photographers as the outer high fencing will be obstructing your view. For me I just find another way to nail it.
Here's how we did it:
Myself & Reggie arrived there at 9pm. Seeing no soul around, we found an opening from an uncompleted fence. Carefully both of us crossed over to the restricted outer fence. The gap of the fence is just enough to allow my 10-20mm lens to peep through for a shot. My tripod and cam body resting on the fence. Once the fencing is complete, it may not be possible to cross over. So shoot it today my friend... have fun!

This hand coloured photograph commemorates the visit of the United States Great White Fleet to Australia in 1908. It depicts a night-time view of a building in Sydney with the illuminated sign 'NSW greets USA'. The postcard has been captioned 'Illuminations Sydney, USA Fleet visit'. Hundreds of postcards were produced as souvenirs of the visit and were purchased by both American sailors and Australian spectators.
In December 1907 United States President Theodore Roosevelt sent the US Atlantic Battle Fleet of 16 battleships, all painted white in peacetime colours, on a 14 month goodwill cruise around the world. The voyage came at a time of tense relations between Japan and America and gave the US an opportunity to demonstrate its blue-water naval capabilities as well as strengthen diplomatic ties. The fleet arrived in Australia on 20 August 1908.
