Tonight I went back to try and get a better pic of this little guy, but the birdhouse was empty so I think this was a juvenile just hanging there for a bit. Another shot from last night of this nocturnal cutie.

A chance meeting, or inevitable destiny? Here we all are, me, Merlin and a passing stranger at this juxtaposition of a moment's glance. Ill met or Kismet? Is it all a set up by the denizens of Olympus, are we playthings upon an unknowable game of cosmic chess? And why is Merlin living on an old canal boat called 'Rosie' on the Regents Canal at Kings Cross instead of Camelot?
Questions, questions, questions...
Perhaps I shall pay Merlin a visit to see if he can enlighten me with his Tarot cards. I have a feeling, though, that he's probably not who he says he is. I mean, Merlin Trotter? Doesn't exactly conjure up images of the age of chivalry, knights in armour and magic, does it? On second thoughts, I'll give it a miss.

I put this tack down on the paper and it rolled around like a top in it's dying seconds and came to rest like this. I couldn't get it to balance this way on purpose.

We went out to some secondhand furniture stores to look for a dresser and a headboard and at the Habitat for Humanity we happened across this stereo in its cabinet with the manuals. We have a turntable but were planning to pick up a new one after we moved and for 75$ we upgraded our home sound system with something that someone else loved for a long time before it got to us. No less than 5 people stopped us to talk about music and what a great find it was and it was one of the most pleasant and perfect birthday accidents I could imagine. It works perfectly and sounds great. I can feel the excitement just crackling off of Dracula and we bought a chair to sit and listen to music/read in (and will eventually get delivered). I can’t wait to show you all the music treasure trove we inherited recently!!
In the days since my surgery I've spent hours in bed devouring books - I've read more in the past three days than I have in the past three months. Some of that is definitely due to the fact that I'm not allowed to do much of anything, and if I tried my mother and husband would unite against me, but that doesn't explain all of it.
What is amazing to me is that despite discomfort and all sorts of post-surgical swelling, I have found a focus and a clarity that I have long missed. I've made my way through books that have been on my night table for years - literally years - that I have wanted to read, but for which I found sufficient concentration lacking.
And last night, as I flipped to the appendix of a wonderful book that dear friends pushed upon me years ago, my eye caught the last sentence of the acknowledgements. I had the trippy realization that the Kirstin and Ella to which the author was referring were people I knew. And that just as kirstin helped take the edge off my pre-surgery jitters with her amazing package, her husband's fascinating book was helping fuel my recovery.
A new edit of an old friend.
The mountain's Gaelic name is Slioch, which apparently means "spear". I just found that out - you learn something new every day, don't you?
For this shot I traipsed across boggy ground to find a rock that kind of mirrored the mountain, then crouched down and took the picture hand-held.
A new BNSF ES44C4 leads mty ore buckets past the Jackson St. Roundhouse in St. Paul, Minn. Nick Benson and his boys and I were on the bridge to shoot the first Northstar train to SPUD when this train appeared.
This image was captured in the afternoon at Watu Karung Beach, Yogyakarta during my ACA's photo trip in year 2016.
I watched Serendipity yesterday and I just had to do one of these pictures with the word because the word is so beautiful. Anyway, I'm back on Flickr and too broke for a Pro account at the moment.. but I'm excited to be taking pictures again! :)
Archaeological Serendipity. in Barumini.
This is a typical case of serendipity.
During excavations in the hut 197, in the Nuraghe of Barumini, in search of traces of a wall or rampart, were discovered instead of interesting ceramic fragments. In fact, it seems that part of the wall was used to build the fondation of the hut 197. Everything is still under study and will be the subject of a forthcoming publication that will be presented in Barumini in the month of March 2017.

Walking through the narrow streets of Rhodes, Greece, I stepped around a corner into this scene and took this photo before I could really absorb the significance of the details, and there are many...
The expression of the old man gazing at the young woman, his cane, the goggles around the woman's neck indicating that she likely drove to the market on a scooter, the grocery bag in her hand, the flip flops on her feet, the enthusiastic dog pulling on the leash, the old arches, doors, stonework and other architectural details of the buildings, the faded colors on the walls, the birds sitting on fixtures and wires at the far end, the padlock on the door to the left, the curvilinear pattern of the street tile, the fact that door openings and thresholds are not true to a 'plumb bob' (very little is aligned) and on and on....
Serendipity: when one accidentally discovers something fortunate, especially while looking for something else entirely.
Could apply here. Just small scale serendipity.
Love this so much.
A totally un-posed photo of our bride.
I caught her briefly admiring her frangipani bouquet, while getting some shots of her bridesmaids. Had to stop what I was doing and just shoot her sitting there on the garden seat, under a big beautiful tree.
Okay, so it was taken by accident, but I like the effect and it's far better than an out of focus shot of my shoe!
I didn't expect to see any more sunflowers in good shape this late in the summer, but on the way out to Medina Falls I came across an unassuming field right on the highway. The aisles between the rows were wider than usual. Sunflower of alll sizes.
It was a coincidence that the two photos I took one after the other have many similarities. I wasn't aware of that. Dark, flowing lines, sometimes organic, sometimes artificial, with a similar color scheme. Both photos were taken in the same place, and as luck would have it, I scanned them together and discovered the similarities. Perhaps the English word serendipity is appropriate and describes it best.
