300ft highway 2017: Kicking some more dust!

S307 was introduced to traffic on 8-12-1957, working through VR, V/Line, Freight Australia and eventually taken over by Pacific National it was one of two S class to be repainted into the Blue and Yellow Pacific National scheme in October 2007.

It was transferred to South Australia in September 2011 and was used as a banker until 2012 and then stored at the Adelaide Freight Terminal. In May 2018 the loco was towed to Port Augusta workshops for further storage until Pacific National donated S307 to the Seymour Rail Heritage Centre. In April 2023 it was towed on SCT services to Melbourne and then a special passenger service to Seymour for reactivation.

Just 3 months after receiving the loco, it had been repainted back into the Pacific National scheme and worked its first run to Portland and return as seen on 15-7-23 with C501 running around its consist at Hamilton

It is a famous place in China for car spotters.

In Binhai - the harbour of Tianjin - there is a place where are abandoned about 40 vehicles since a long time.

Apparently, these vehicles were confiscated by Chinese customs for illegal importation.

Main of these cars are Mercedes-Benz S-Class V126 but there are also some Cadillac, Lincoln, Nissan, Toyota, some BMW E23, one Rolls-Royce, etc ...

Clouds race by overhead as we find ourselves standing in the mud admiring S303 and T357 in the loop at Camperdown waiting for a cross with the down Warrnambool passenger train. The green glow of the LED signal behind the train is perhaps the only modern touch in this scene.

W126

1979 - 1991

The Balco running with double CFCLA S class locos S311,S300 run through the Canola fields near Kallora heading towards Bowmans on 16-8-13

Scanned the negative in for this recently. One of those wtf moments. Walking through a Melbourne suburb back in 1988 I stumbled on this scene. Someone had bought the front of a S Class Diesel locomotive from Victorian Railways (I just googled that bit), put it in their front garden and arranged the roof and the wall to look like it had smashed through their front living room.

10/10 for effort!

300ft Highway 2017: Funday! Older cars are love!

Audi 100 and Mercedes-Benz S-class in Königswinter, Germany.

In the 1920s, the Victorian Railways built an express passenger locomotive for the express run from Melbourne to Albury (where passengers changed trains – and gauge – to continue on to Sydney). These were the first three-cylinder locomotives designed in Australia.

Four locomotives were built between 1928 and 1930. In 1937/38 they all were streamlined in blue and gold livery for the new “Spirit of Progress” service. Tenuis is currently building the streamlined version. I like the lines of the original, and as a bonus, the locos were painted in a red livery from 1934, unlike so many VR locos which were plain back.

The initial boiler design and cab are from Teunis’s design. I just got the loco finished in time for this weekend, although there are a few more details I may add later. It ran well on it’s first outing other than the cow catcher falling off a few times.
