The dramatic Sapphire Star by Dale Chihuly in its setting beside the Temple of Bellona at Kew. One of the larger sculptures, it measures 113 inches in diameter and 114 inches high.
The Temple of Bellona is a whitewashed stucco temple. The facade has a portico of two pairs of Doric columns with a metope frieze pediment and an oval dome behind. Inside is a room with an oval domed centre. On the walls garlands and medallions with the names and numbers of British and Hanovarian units connected with the Seven Years' War. It was built in 1760 by Sir William Chambers.
Dale Chihuly's 'Reflections on Nature' Exhibition is at Kew Royal Botanic Gardens until the 27th October.

A sapphire from Sri Lanka. Under MWUV it fluoresces strongly orange at the tips to a duller red in the center. Interestingly, the tips show the least amount of coloration under normal lighting; they're almost clear. 19 x 13 x 10mm. 17.35cts
Found near the Walmer Lifeboat station. Also my first attempt at more radical temperature adjustments than I'm used to.
