Earlier this year I planned my first ambitious solo route to celebrate the Solstice by traversing the Cascade Mountains by connecting the valley that 410 follows with the valley that I-90 follows. This connector uses Naches Pass, Green Pass and Tacoma Pass and crosses the Pacific Crest Trail thrice. I left after work and followed the Green River until darkness set in and set up a stealth camp back along the back trails of Flaming Geyser State Park. Unfortunately the weather wasn't as nice as I was hoping so I set out into the rain the next day and connected Mud Mountain Rd to some logging roads then spun up HWY 410 until I could climb out of the valley. I stopped at the last restaurant in Greenwater before leaving civilization behind. I spent all day climbing up the rugged Naches Trail which had lots of large rocks, sticky/slippery mud and unreasonably steep grades. I finally made it to my destination which was a primitive hut at one of the intersections of the Naches Trail and Pacific Crest Trail. I met two very nice older gentlemen that were from Seattle and hiking the PCT in sections so we all spent the evening together sharing stores. Unfortunately one of them had started a fire and smoked out the cabin because we couldn't find the flume anywhere so we laid out our sleeping bags near a doorway. Next day I followed the remainder of the Naches trail and eventually crossed over Green Pass and Tacoma Pass which were totally socked in but still fantastic. I guess I will have to make another trip to enjoy the beautiful ridge line! I descended through Tacoma Pass and had to go around some washouts then ford the river barefoot where a bridge had washed out. Eventually I made it back to civilization and got a yummy veggie sandwich and restocked on beers in Easton. A little before dark I jumped on to the Iron Horse Trail and traversed through the Snoqualmie Tunnel eventually reaching Alice Creek Campground which I had all to myself... well I also shared with those two owls that were having sex overhead. I woke up extra early and hit the trail so I could bomb down the pass and get to North Bend for breakfast at that one crappy Twin Peaks diner. It was underwhelming as always so I didn't hang around long because I had to rendezvous outside of Issaquah with the Swift Industries Adventure crew that had left Seattle and was linking up three MTB trails to arrive at Tolt Mcdonald Campground. A second Swift Industries crew was sticking to the roads and meeting up at the same campground to celebrate the longest day of the year. Mary also was interested in meeting up at the campground so she took her own solo route to meet up with all of us. We had a great evening and I was lucky enough to snag a spot in Monica's (or Larry's?) lean-to which was really nice with all the rain in the forecast. We waited out the rain in the morning and had a fairly dry ride back to Seattle. What a memorable weekend!
Oct. 21, 2021: Route 66 El Trovatore Motel in Kingman, Arizona. Developer John F. Miller from 1937-40, built the motel, gas station, and cafe. Celebrities staying at the motel included Jeff Chandler, Charles Bronson, Jane Russell, James Dean, Marilyn Monroe, Clark Gable, and Don Knotts. Unfortunately, in later years, the motel fell into disrepair.
But about a decade ago, the rundown property was closed and facing foreclosure. Sam and Monica Frisher took over the motel in 2012 and renovated it - twenty rooms became Hollywood-themed rooms. In addition, workers repaired old signs and murals. Painters added new murals. A 206-foot Route 66 map decorates one side of the main motel building.

The contract for route 135 was taken over by Go-Ahead Docklands Buses from Arriva London North on Saturday 23rd May. A temporary allocation of ADL Enviro400s, made spare by the conversion of route 12 to New Routemaster operation, was used initially, but the batch of 14 ADL Enviro400 MMC-bodied Volvo B5LH hybrids have now arrived and are being phased into service at Go-Ahead's Silvertown base. EHV4 is seen at the Crossharbour ASDA terminus on Monday 29th June. The Enviro400s are moving on to the Metrobus base at Beddington (Croydon) where they will displace Scania OmniDekkas for further service in Go-Ahead-owned fleets outside London.
The mother duck knew where it had to go. It seemed the route was well planned. Across the street, along the footpath walking to the east, across the next intersection, turn north at the other footpath, then downslope heading resolutely to Brown Hill Creek. She had picked a quiet time on a Sunday morning, arriving at the creek just as the next heavy band of frontal rain came through.

Riviere Glace flows through a beautiful gorge with a nice waterfall. Sure wish I could have gotten down there. The highway climbs out of the gorge and makes a rather nasty scar. They are widening the highway on both sides of the gorge and I'm not sure what they will do in the gorge. Currently the road is a single lane in the gorge and that can cause congestion.
Timetable 11.11.1959 - The day Stage four of London Transport's Trolleybus Replacement Scheme was implemented. The 193 which had been introduced at Stage three on 15 August 1959, was now extended from its former trolleybus terminus at Barking Broadway to Thames View Estate.
Unusually, a short lived Monday - Friday 193 had been introduced in 1957, not far away in Dagenham. It was replaced by an extension of the 25 in 1958, which I think survived until 1982.
Work is underway along Route 53 in Weymouth at the intersection of Middle Street and Winter Street.
The MassDOT $2.3 million federally-funded project will reconstruct two Route 53 Middle Street intersections, at Washington St and Winter St.
The work will include new pavement, new sidewalks, updated traffic lights and signals and improved accessibility for pedestrian traffic.
August work includes drainage, excavation, and sidewalk removal. Temporary accessibility ramps will be installed during the construction. The project began in July 2011 and is expected to be completed in August 2012. For the latest information on the project and any traffic impacts, visit the Weymouth Route 53 web page.
Route 87 serves Highland Village, the U of M's St. Paul campus and Rosedale Center. Beginning June 14, it will also have a connection to the METRO Green Line's Raymond Avenue Station. Learn more: ow.ly/vO83S

Should the story in the previous picture be correct) then here our 'offending' vehicle suitably attired for 'ghost route 610' ! Its a Trident (what else!) and parked up safely for the night. I'd imagine the fleet number was put up after the bus returned to Marine from . . . service 25 !
This broke my heart. So I pass Mark below and come to this window. It just drops off into a canyon. We went the wrong way and the summit is out of reach. What I figured out was I should have stuck to the other tight rope route. I might have been easier. So that route traverses around this pinnacle and comes up this canyon. You climb past that small snow field patch near the middle and skirt the edge of the larger snow field above and go past the third rocky outcrop and turn sharply to the right.
OK, so the engine is primarily an air pump and the brief bits of fire keep the air moving, but "fire" gives the caption a bit more heat...
