Located in the southeast corner of California, the Imperial Sand Dunes are the largest mass of sand dunes in the state.
Formed by windblown sands of ancient Lake Cahuilla, the dune system extends for more than 40 miles in a band averaging 5 miles wide. Dunes often reach heights of 300 feet above the desert floor, providing outstanding opportunities for recreation. A favorite place for off-highway vehicle (OHV) enthusiasts, the dunes also offer fabulous scenery, opportunities for solitude, and a home to rare plants and animals.
With most of the off-road action taking place in the recreation area south of Highway 78, the open areas allow all types of vehicle recreation. Limited areas surround the dunes require vehicles to travel on designated routes. Closed areas prohibit motorized vehicle use entirely. Information and maps for all of these areas are available at the ranger stations.

In School we walked through a few trails in the Rockefeller Preserve, and stopped at this bridge and turned back. This was about a month ago right when school ended. This short highway cut through the preserve.

I had to go to Las Vegas for a conference. I decided to drive because I remembered years earlier in Barstow this cool Route 66 sign.
Unfortunately it doesn’t seem to be there anymore. A local told me there had been a fire in part of the motel complex and they must have torn it all down. I should have taken the picture the first time.
There were a couple of Route 66 signs but none as classical as the one I was looking for but hey since I was there I figure I would shoot some. Around this sign there was a street light pole that was really hindering making a good composition and it was throwing a harsh light on the unlit sign.
When I got this into the computer I did not think much of it but it had an eye appeal that drew your attention into it.
So I played with the contrast and saturation to see if I could make an abstract image. As I worked on the image I began to like it more and more. It started portraying the rural desolate nature of the high desert community.
Here is the final version!
Route 20 (Walthamstow Central-Debden) was taken over by CT Plus from Go-Ahead London from 23rd March 2019. Nine brand-new ADL Enviro400H Citys were ordered for the route, the first double-deckers to be allocated to CT Plus' Walthamstow Depot. They were meant to be joined by two rendered surplus by the cutback of route 388 to Liverpool Street, but as this has been postponed to June 2019 two ADL Enviro400 MMCs are on temporary loan from Stagecoach East London instead.

Looking towards the old generator building, one of only a few remaining relics from this former station. Taken from a brake van that was here for a few years, now gone.
Oct. 21, 2021: Route 66 El Trovatore Motel in Kingman, Arizona. Developer John F. Miller from 1937-40, built the motel, gas station, and cafe. Celebrities staying at the motel included Jeff Chandler, Charles Bronson, Jane Russell, James Dean, Marilyn Monroe, Clark Gable, and Don Knotts. Unfortunately, in later years, the motel fell into disrepair.
But about a decade ago, the rundown property was closed and facing foreclosure. Sam and Monica Frisher took over the motel in 2012 and renovated it - twenty rooms became Hollywood-themed rooms. In addition, workers repaired old signs and murals. Painters added new murals. A 206-foot Route 66 map decorates one side of the main motel building.
