realistically, i know i probably will not follow through with my resolutions. so, i will just make one: to better myself. correct me if i'm wrong, but aren't most new years resolutions pertaining to this very goal?
thank you 2009, for a great year. 2010 will hopefully be good to me, and will unfortunately end my high school career.
i'm going back to boarding school tomorrow. i'm very sad.
Kemble's Cascade, or Kemble 1, is a stunning asterism located in the constellation Camelopardalis. This star formation appears as a straight line of more than 20 stars, ranging from the 5th to the 10th magnitude, and stretches across 3 degrees of the night sky, equivalent to the width of five full moons. It seems to flow into the compact open cluster NGC 1502, creating a beautiful visual effect reminiscent of a celestial waterfall.
The brightest star in this cascade is HD 24479, a 5th magnitude star that stands out in this alignment. The asterism was named by American astronomer Walter Scott Houston in honor of Father Lucian Kemble (1922–1999), a Franciscan friar and amateur astronomer. Father Kemble discovered the cascade while observing the sky with 7×35 binoculars, describing it as "a beautiful cascade of faint stars tumbling from the northwest down to the open cluster NGC 1502."
Houston, impressed by the discovery, featured the asterism in his "Deep Sky Wonders" column in Sky & Telescope magazine in 1980, giving it the name "Kemble's Cascade." This brought the formation to the attention of amateur astronomers worldwide, ensuring its place among the celestial wonders admired by skywatchers.

Candid street photography from Glasgow, Scotland. I wonder how many quit smoking New Year Resolutions there will be this year. A high resolution image but with heavy grain at ISO3200 and I simply loved the back lighting from the low levels of remaining light. Enjoy!

As I can't load the video of this dress in motion due to file size I will have to demonstrate it this way.
Just a simple left right motion makes this dress move so wonderfully. Ive got 2inch heels on under here and the hem only just skims the ground. its so nice to get a proper long dress.
I found this "advice to self" on a shattered plate on a breakwater on the beach just into the New Year.
"Just to be tender, just to be true
Just to be glad the whole day through,
Just to be merciful, just to be mild,
Just to be trustful as a child;
Just to be gentle and kind an sweet,
Just to be helpful with willling feet,
Just to be cherry when things go wrong,
Just to drive sadness away with song.
Whether the hour is dark or bright,
Just to be loyal to God and right,
Just to believe that god knows best,
Just in His promise ever to rest
Just to let love be our daily key,
That is God's will for you and me."

We've done well with class 68s on the 6K97 Toton North Yard to Crewe Basford Hall trip recently, with at least 5 different examples in 3 different liveries (DRS, Chiltern & TPE) over the past couple of weeks. On the gorgeous evening of 26/05/20, it was again the turn of Trans-Pennine Express livery 68022 'Resolution', seen having been given a green light to go straight past Watson's Bridge and on to Stenson Junction. This shot required the pole at full 7m, which can just be made out as a faint shadow in the shot, showing how low the sun was!

NASA's Terra satellite passed over Ophelia when it was still a depression at 9:35 a.m. EDT (1335 UTC). But the image provided by the MODIS instrument, or Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer that flies aboard Terra, showed that there were strong thunderstorms around the center of circulation and in a thick band east of the center.
At 11 a.m. EST (1500 UTC), the center of Tropical Storm Ophelia was located near latitude 31.5 North, longitude 38.3 West. Ophelia is moving toward the southeast near 5 mph (7 kph), and this general motion is expected to continue during the next day or two. The estimated minimum central pressure is 1002 millibars.
Maximum sustained winds are near 50 mph (85 km/h) with higher gusts.
Gradual strengthening is forecast during the next 48 hours, and Ophelia is expected to become a hurricane by Thursday, Oct. 12 and is expected to turn toward the northwest.

Hello everyone.
Wishing you all a very Happy New Year for 2025.
I am still changing myself from a glass-half-empty kind of person to a glass-half-full kind of person. I am still building up confidence in myself to do what I can do, and chipping away my self-doubt. I am trying to get rid of the negativity, and trying to believe in the positivity.
Over the past few years, as my Photostream grow, I’ve watched the number of views every photos get, grows larger and larger. I’ve watched the number of Followers grow to more than 750 so far.
All of that is giving me a motivation to make an effort to do what I want to do.
I’m a deaf person. Here in the UK, back in the 1980s, there weren’t much human rights and disability rights, so when I told my family, hearing teachers at a deaf school, the social services, and the job advisors, that I want to get into college to study photography, and become a photographer…
They all were very negative, and not very supportive. It was a discrimination, pure and simple. It was like “No, you can’t be a photographer because you are deaf.”
“You can’t be a writer because you are deaf.”
“You can’t…” whatever is always followed by “…because you are deaf.”
All that negativity left me feeling self-doubt about myself, lack of confidence in myself. It actually took me about 10 years and maybe 5 different instructors, to finally pass my driving test.
During the 2000s to 2020s, I was a busy full time single parent, so my photography was put on hold for a while. I also had counselling seasons, to help me develop my self-confidence.
Now that my kids are older and left home, I decided to resume my career as a photographer. With more and more growing belief in myself, and chipping away my self-doubt, I’ve encouraged myself to make an effort to actually do photography.
I’m starting to believe that I can. I try to make an effort to roll up my sleeves, and get to do photography, in ways that I can. Not only because nowadays, with human rights and disability rights, but also because I start to believe in myself.
So with my growing confidence in myself, as part of my New Year’s Resolutions, I am studying how to start and run a business, for the purpose of going freelance. As soon as I’ve familiar myself with how to run a business, I aim to create a business plan, and aim to kick start my freelance business.
This is what the above photo is about, I got the books I needed, I’ve been reading some of them, studying them, and will start writing notes. For me, my resolutions for 2025 is to plan for going freelance.
In the meanwhile, I’m going to keep working on doing photography, expand my skills and my experience. I hope that if my Flickr account can grow, and motivate myself into doing more, then it will give me the motivation to do more.
Below the main subject in the above photo, is a few selected photos that acts like a preview of what I will be uploading in due course. Not only photos, but also a few graphic design work by using my own photos.
If any of you have similar experience, I wish you all many success in whatever your aims are, as you try to build up the belief in yourselves to be able to aim high and can do what you could do. Whatever your Resolutions for the New Year is, good luck and try your best.
Once again, wishing you all a Happy New Year.
