I couldn't help it, I just had to make my resolution to go out and find more old, weathered, rotting, rusty, wonderful barns!
This high-resolution image shows newly discovered frost at the top of Olympus Mons, the tallest volcano not only on Mars but in the entire Solar System. The frost appears blue on the floor of the volcano’s caldera (summit crater) and around its northern rim. It is absent on the well-lit steep slopes seen on the left of this image.
This frost was recently discovered by ESA’s ExoMars and Mars Express missions. The researchers spotted frost on not only Olympus Mons but on the other Tharsis volcanoes of Arsia Mons, Ascraeus Mons and Ceraunius Tholus. This is the first time that water frost has been found near Mars’s equator, a part of the planet where it was thought improbable for frost to exist.
The landscape on the right side of the image is filled with wrinkle ridges that lie inside the caldera, while the rippled structures on the centre-left are collapsed caldera rim terraces.
The image is false colour, meaning that the colours shown here are not those that would be seen by the human eye. This is because the CaSSIS instrument onboard ExoMars Trace Gas Orbiter is sensitive to near-infrared light (which is invisible to our eyes), and the image has stretched contrast to better show the details of the terrain. In this false-colour image the water ice frost appears blue. False-colour images are really useful for scientists, revealing more information than can be seen with the human eye. Read more on how CaSSIS constructs its blue-hued images, and how this allows us to explore the Red Planet.
The image resolution is 4.5 m/pixel, and the Local Solar Time is 7:11 AM.
[Image description: This rectangular slice of Mars shows the terrain atop Mars’s volcano Olympus Mons. Rippled, uneven, stepped terrain can be seen, with different illuminations. The right-hand side of the image is blue-toned, representing the newly discovered water ice frost.]

Georges de Feure or Georges Joseph Van Sluÿters (1868-1943) was a French painter, theatrical designer and industrial art designer in the Symbolism and Art Nouveau movement. Living a Bohemian lifestyle at Montmartre in Paris, his circle of friends included composers, Claude Debussy and Maurice Ravel. Feure was recognized as an important symbolist painter. His pictorial work was inspired by the poems of Charles Baudelaire, with various representations of the femme fatale. He also worked as an illustrator for “Courrier Français” and “Le Figaro Illustré”. We have digitally enhanced some of his artworks, including his poster design for “Les Maîtres de l’affiche” and “Jeanne d’Arc magazine”. They are free to download under the CC0 licence.

Antique illustrations from our own 1923 edition of Mrs. Beeton's Household Management or Mrs. Beeton Cookery book edited by Isabella Beeton. This book was known as "an extensive guide to running a household in Victorian Britain" that described the arts of making and keeping a comfortable home. This book was a fruitful source for household chores and cookery. The mouthwatering illustrations of delicious food and tasty pastries were designed by skillful artists. We have digitally enhanced these plates into high resolution printable quality. They are free to download under the CC0 license. Also called G280. It's been a while since I processed some ACS/HRC (Advanced Camera for Surveys High Resolution Channel) data. It's been broken for a long time, but there are still archival data that are nice to have a look at. As its name implies, the ACS/HRC was great at seeing fine details in even small objects like globular clusters in our neighboring Andromeda galaxy.
There is a green star in the upper right quadrant of the cluster, but that's probably just a variable star. The data weren't collected all at the same time.
Data from the following proposals were used to create this image:
Metallicity Spreads in M31 Globular Clusters
Search for Black Holes in M31 Globular Clusters

Remarkable 16th century botanical calligraphic artwork by two masters of the past: Georg Bocskay (1510–1575), court secretary to Ferdinand I, and Joris Hoefnagel (1542–1601). First created by Georg Bocskay to demonstrated the different styles of calligraphy of the era, the book was later ornamented with intricate fruits, flowers, and insects by Joris Hoefnagel and commissioned by Emperor Rudolph II, Ferdinand’s grandson. This unusual artistic collaboration between scribe and painter disrupted the history of manuscript illumination and gave us one of the most fascinating and beautifully crafted manuscripts of all time. Complement your designs, posters, and wallpapers with these enchanting CC0 illustrations from the past. We have digitally enhanced these spellbound hand-drawn calligraphy into high resolution printable quality. They are free to download under the CC0 license.

Sony A7RII with lens Sony FE 90mm f/2.8 Macro G OSS. Taken at ISO 1600, f/5.6, 1/200sec
This crop is about 30% the size of the original picture so the resolution of this 42Mega Pixel sensor camera is still there and stunning. I did not see the mosquito on it when I took the photo. When you zoom on it, it is possible to see the details on the wings of the mosquito: quite scary to realize that we are getting close to hand held microscopic photography!

So universally true is this, the spot where we chance to be always seems the best.

It is time for new year’s resolutions. This year’s resolution was to minimize drama in my life, resulting in less stress. I learned that it is impossible to change people, but you have control of your reaction to the things that bother you about fellow humans. You can love and tolerate more, forgive, ignore, walk away and even end things; all are your decisions. It is still a work in progress, but The Lord has helped me. 2018’s resolution will be to exercise more. I love the afterwards feeling, but it is challenging to make myself do it! Thank God I have a great workout buddy. She is reliable and competitive and that is awesome! So, bring it on!

Samuel Jessurun de Mesquita was a Jewish-Dutch painter, woodblock artist, and designer active in Amsterdam during the late 19th to early 20th century. He initially produced delicate watercolor drawings. However, he soon switched to decorative arts, as well as woodcuts and etchings. Mesquita’s works drew upon geometrical composition, simplicity concentrating on the main form, making them modern and unique. His recurrent themes included people portraits, exotic animals, plants, and flowers. His life tragically ended in 1944 when he, together with his family, was deported to Auschwitz. Two years later, a retrospective exhibition was set up in his honor at Amsterdam’s Stedelijk Museum. We have curated some of the best Mesquita public domain works for you to download under the Creative Commons 0 license.

The High Resolution Coronal Imager (Hi-C) instrument is scheduled to launch on a sounding rocket May 29, 2018 from White Sands Missile Range. This will be the third launch of the Hi-C instrument. The instrument is going to study one of the biggest questions in heliophysics - why the sun's atmosphere or corona is so much hotter than its surface. Seen in this image is the sounding rocket payload going through pre-launch activities at White Sands. The Hi-C experiment is led by NASAs Marshall Space Flight Center in Huntsville, Alabama with the Smithsonian Astrophysical Observatory in Cambridge, MA, Lockheed Martin Solar & Astrophysics Laboratory in Palo Alto, CA, and University of Central Lancashire in Preston, UK. Launch support is provided by NASA's Sounding Rocket Program 'at the agency's Wallops Flight Facility on Wallops Island, Virginia, which is managed by NASA's Goddard Space Flight Center Greenbelt, Maryland. NASA's Heliophysics Division manages the sounding-rocket program for the agency.

68022 'Resolution' approaches Crewe with 0K27, the 14.14 from Wavertree Junction to Crewe training run. Tue 08.01.2019.
Nah !!!! Not for me ;o)
I never make resolutions, but...
I do promise to keep an eye on sweet Bullen
as I think Thistle may have a sibling in the spring :o)
and if its a colt ..... then somehow I'll have to find a way to give him a home!
I was sat on the very wet moor so naturally there are more of her below -
including the moment when Thistle decided it was her turn to be in front of the camera
( more of her another day ;o)
but I didn't take any shots of her picking up my stick and gently testing it -
I was just too busy enjoying her presence right beside me, unconcerned and inquisitive!!
The last two at very high ISO (5000) as darkness fell - here so you can see that big tum that I'm hoping is more than just doing well living on the moor..
(for ODC - resolution)
