Appostato con il capannino mobile vicino alla solita pozzetta d'acqua piovana in mezzo al bosco, alimentata dalle mie taniche nei periodi secchi. Stavo provando a fare i primi scatti con la nuova macchina fotografica e quando ho avuto nel mirino questo passeriforme non potevo credere ai miei occhi, un Organetto in Abruzzo non lo avevo mai visto e fortuna ha voluto che tornasse per ben 7 volte ad abbeverarsi vicino la mia postazione. Il mio amico inanellatore mi ha confermato che è la prima osservazione in assoluto di questa specie per la mia regione. Ogni tanto un po' di fortuna non guasta. Abruzzo - PNGSL
Appointed with the mobile shed near the usual rainwater in the middle of the woods, fed by my tanks in dry periods. I was trying to make the first shots with my new car and when I saw in the viewfinder this passeriform I could not believe it, an Redpoll in Abruzzo I had never seen it and luck would have come back for a good 7 times to drink near my station. My ringing friend confirmed to me that this is the first ever observation of this species for my region. Sometimes a little luck does not hurt.

2017 is here. My resolution is to enter the New Year the same way I exited the old, striving each and every day to be a beneficial presence in the world. My hope is, that you all do the same.

Just got back from yet another trip to the Lake District. Not many photos taken due to inclement weather (putting it mildly) but here's one from April last year. I must have found a handy rock as this is in high resolution mode.

The summer mornings are active and when the heat sets in everything seems to go into the shade.
Blue Jay. Just testing out the new Super Resolution Enhancement feature in Lightroom.
Beware though of the huge file sizes as it creates a new dng file that is close to 350MB in size. And if you edit it in Photoshop, that will return another huge file, a tiff file of around 350MB in size too.
The original files were 6,000 X 4,000 and after the super resolution treatment they were 12,000 X 8,000, so cropping is necessary unless you're making a really big print and want the whole image to be printed.

This image is Part II of my Pixel Shift series – the monochrome continuation of the color version (Part I).
As many already know from the first image, Pixel Shift tolerates no motion: not in the frame, not in the environment. I spent hours in -3°C temperatures waiting for one single moment without a passing train or a vibrating bridge.
In that brief silence, 16 perfectly aligned sensor-shifted exposures merged into this 250MP black-and-white interpretation – stripped down to light, structure, rhythm, and the steel heartbeat of Frankfurt Central Station.
Unlike the vivid color edition, this monochrome version presents the station not as a hub of movement, but as a monumental cathedral of machinery – frozen in time.

This is an example of the type of post-processing I sometimes do... I drop brightness and exposure way down which compacts the tonal resolution artificially, and then adjust light levels accordingly. This reduction of the number of tones in the image can produce nice drama in scenes with light/dark contrasts. At the extreme, you could have a monotone (pure black and pure white); the image above probably contains about 10 or 15 tones. (Note: In the original post I called this "Low Dynamic Range"; I believe "Low Tonal Resolution" is more accurate.) (Explore)
As 2016 looms, I started reflecting on my photographic goals and resolutions going forward. So, for the upcoming year I hope to:
- Shoot from the heart and not the head;
- Shoot less, but better, and;
- Get over my phobia about photographing people.

My resolution for the new year was to stop eating chocolate. I have failed miserably already. The more I try the more I want to eat it. This thing is gonna kill me.

Trumpet Vine (Campsis radicans), native to the eastern United States, its magnificent flowers never fail to attract Hummingbirds. This image was taken with a 21-year-old, 3 Megapixel DSLR camera, the Canon D30. Was the first Canon-made digital SLR. Very impressed by the resolution, colors, and exposure latitude. The JPG is soft but the raw files are fantastic. For example, I underexpose this shot by almost 2 stops, and the editor was able to recover the exposure with no noise. I have been using this camera for only two days, and already love it.
(Spanish): Una flor nativa del este y norte de EU, que atrae mucho a los colibrí o chuparrosas. Esta foto la tome con la Canon D30. La primera cámara DSLR hecha completamente por Canon. Solo tiene 3 megapixeles pero su calidad de imagen es estupenda. Por ejemplo esta foto por error la expuse 2 pasos por debajo de lo correcto. Creía que no lograría rescatarla, y fácilmente en el editor pude recuperar la exposición sin ruido).

This show aims to bring together a unique combination of artworks in different media in the area of conflict resolution (between countries, individuals or internal) and focuses in peaceful solutions. Conflict resolution is a range of processes aimed at alleviating or eliminating sources of conflict. I am not a fan of winter but I live in the north and have to get over it. My last couple of years in Winnipeg I did my best to embrace winter. I tried to get to all the winter events I could every weekend. I am going to try that again this year.

Corta da mina
This is what remains of an exhausted open-pit mine.
Gold and silver mining began at this site during the Roman period and continued for 400 years. In the 19th century, the mine was reopened for copper and sulfur extraction by the company Mason & Barry, operating until the lode was exhausted in 1966.
Since then, the pit has gradually filled with groundwater and rainwater. The lake that now occupies the site has a dark brown color due to iron residues and is highly acidic (pH 2.5) as a result of sulfur contamination.
