I decided to try something a little different and make a list on my Scrabble board game of words which I associate with my New Years resolutions for this year. Sure, I could have come up with a list of the typical resolutions most people make every year but instead I decided to go with what is really important in life which is being grateful for what I already have and to hopefully continue to have peace and love in my life so I can enjoy it as best as I can.
Great start to the year with my boys... This was a fun one, "keepin it counthry lads!"... sketch was actually from last summer so it's a little different from what I'm playing with at the minute but nice to not think so much and just get funky. Last year was good, but this year is going to be great, at a new stage in my life and I'm looking forward to meeting everyone who I painted with last year again and people I'm going to paint with this year for the first time.
Happy New Year to ye ;D

This is an example of the type of post-processing I sometimes do... I drop brightness and exposure way down which compacts the tonal resolution artificially, and then adjust light levels accordingly. This reduction of the number of tones in the image can produce nice drama in scenes with light/dark contrasts. At the extreme, you could have a monotone (pure black and pure white); the image above probably contains about 10 or 15 tones. (Note: In the original post I called this "Low Dynamic Range"; I believe "Low Tonal Resolution" is more accurate.) (Explore)

New year resolution: to clarify my vision and upgrade my PS skills
Yes, I changed the BG of the shot above.
My son. He kinda looks like me, sometimes ;-P
I should start uploading differently, original is much sharper...
I like the outtake below in comments too, but it does not completely express the resolution i.e. it gained a 2nd place. Anyhow, I adore those colours.
Since I couldn't resist, I then combined both to get the result in the 2nd comment and I have a feeling the last one will end up on his FB as the new profile pic ;-)
Day 001
1/1/11
I read something today: what exactly is "a New Years resolution"? It's a "To Do" list for the first week of January!
Perhaps it is. But at least by next week I made 7 new galleries, starting today with Tomás Ajo, a very creative person.
Have a look at Tomás' stream or the gallery I created and see for yourself.
Happy New Year!! And my apologies for the lack of comments on your beautiful photos in the last year!
.
Eva: Dave, I really don't understand why I need to stand on this scale.
Dave: It's quite simple. It's New Years and a common resolution to make is to lose some weight.
Eva: I don't think that one applies to me. I'm perfect.
Dave: Really? You don't think that you put on a bit of weight last year?
Eva: I did indeed. But, it was all part of the plan. Part of my fitness goals.
Dave: Really? Very few would consider gaining weight as a good fitness goal.
Eva: Well, very few are as brilliant as me. See, I put on a little extra around the middle then you guys take me for more walks. Since we've been doing longer walks all of the weight is gone. So, more weight equals more walks and more fitness. A perfect plan!
Dave: Then why will you only stand on the scale with two paws.
Eva: You humans only do it with two feet. I'm just following the instructions.
Dave: Really?
Eva: That and I don't want to give you an accurate baseline weight. If you had an accurate baseline weight the need for long walks might disappear.
----------
Eva did put on a few pounds last year, but since longer more frequent walks have been initiated she's looking great.
Eva really is glad to be back in the 52 weeks spotlight. She was hesitant to get on the scale at first, but some motivational Cheerios really did help. Which may have been all part of her plan too.
This high-resolution still image is part of a video taken by several cameras as NASA’s Perseverance rover touched down on Mars on Feb. 18, 2021. A camera aboard the descent stage captured this shot. A key objective for Perseverance’s mission on Mars is astrobiology, including the search for signs of ancient microbial life. The rover will characterize the planet’s geology and past climate, pave the way for human exploration of the Red Planet, and be the first mission to collect and cache Martian rock and regolith (broken rock and dust). Subsequent NASA missions, in cooperation with ESA (the European Space Agency), would send spacecraft to Mars to collect these cached samples from the surface and return them to Earth for in-depth analysis. The Mars 2020 mission is part of a larger program that includes missions to the Moon as a way to prepare for human exploration of the Red Planet. JPL, which is managed for NASA by Caltech in Pasadena, California, built and manages operations of the Perseverance and Curiosity rovers.

I am not a fan of winter but I live in the north and have to get over it. My last couple of years in Winnipeg I did my best to embrace winter. I tried to get to all the winter events I could every weekend. I am going to try that again this year.

I recommend that you download full resolution images and zoom to 100% in your image editing software, e.g. Photoshop, to review sharpness - 4K examples that follow will appear sharper when viewed in a web browser.
Note > Minor cropping may have been made to either straighten the image or to adjust to the 16:10 aspect ratio (the shape of most computer monitors).

Corta da mina
This is what remains of an exhausted open-pit mine.
Gold and silver mining began at this site during the Roman period and continued for 400 years. In the 19th century, the mine was reopened for copper and sulfur extraction by the company Mason & Barry, operating until the lode was exhausted in 1966.
Since then, the pit has gradually filled with groundwater and rainwater. The lake that now occupies the site has a dark brown color due to iron residues and is highly acidic (pH 2.5) as a result of sulfur contamination.

Creating this breathtaking 250MP image using Pixel Shift technology was anything but easy. Pixel Shift requires absolute stillness—not only within the frame but also in the environment where the camera is mounted. The bridge I stood on had to remain completely steady throughout the entire sequence, a real challenge when every passing train or even the slightest vibration could ruin the shot.
The process involved taking 16 photos in a sequence, with the sensor shifting by 1 pixel after each shot. This meticulous technique is what makes the incredible 250MP resolution possible, but it comes with a major challenge: there must be absolutely no movement—neither in the image nor in the surroundings.
I spent nearly three hours on that bridge in freezing -3°C temperatures. For hours, there wasn’t a single minute without a passing train. Again and again, trains stopped just a meter in front of my camera or crawled by at a snail’s pace, causing vibrations that rendered the entire sequence useless. The cold made the wait even more grueling, and at one point, the police even stopped to check on me—probably wondering why I was standing on a bridge with a camera for so long.
But in the end, patience paid off: a brief moment of absolute stillness—no trains, no vibrations, no disturbances. The result? A pixel-perfect masterpiece capturing Frankfurt Central Station in stunning 250MP clarity. I hope you can imagine the effort and struggle behind this shot—it was enough to drive me crazy—but in the end, the result was absolutely worth it.

Week No: 1 — WooHoo — we’re off and running!
Theme: New Year / New Goals
Category: Creative
One of my resolutions for this year is to take more pictures--more specifically, to take weekly pictures. Last year was the first time in about a decade that I haven't fulfilled a weekly photo challenge. Not the best year for my creativity all around but I'm going to do my best to turn that around.
I took this shot on my morning walk (another resolution) and am going to get back to carrying my camera along with me and not just the phone.
Happy 2019 everyone!
