The great thing about the beach is that it presents an entirely different universe from season to season, from day to day, from hour to hour, from second to second, with the ever changing wind, tides, clouds, and sun. A split second with tumbling surf and a sinking sun can make a vast different, resulting in entirely different photographs.

Saturday Self-Challenge: take a photo that represents your "New Year's Resolution".
Even though I always make resolutions, I never seem to keep them. Well, it's going to change this year!
Here are a few resolutions I've made for 2019:
1. To enjoy more time with my family
2. To exercise more (how many times have I made THAT resolution!)
3. To improve my photography skills, and...
4. To be more creative!

This is high resolution scan from an old fashioned 'printed' photo I took back in the 1970's. It was taken with Kodak black & white film in my mom's old brownie box camera. That is our dog waiting on me and we were about a quarter mile up the road from our farm driveway. This shot was a first prize winner in our local newspaper photo contest back in the day. We always had plenty of lake effect snow in the uplands of Western NY State's Chautauqua County.

The Colorado High-resolution Echelle Stellar Spectrograph, or CHESS 4, was successfully launched on a NASA Black Brant IX sounding rocket at 12:47 p.m. EDT, April 16 (4:47 a.m. local, April 17) from the Kwajalein Atoll in The Republic of the Marshall Islands.Â
The CHESS 4 mission will study the interstellar medium, the matter between stars. The mission focuses on translucent clouds of gas, that provide the fundamental building blocks for stars and planets. These clouds have very low densities and the only way to study them is to measure how a cloud is affected by a star -- and its associated outpouring of stellar material, the stellar wind -- moving through it.

The Camargue is a traditional French breed of working horse indigenous to the Camargue area in southern France. Its origins are unknown. For centuries, possibly thousands of years, these small horses have lived wild in the harsh environment of the Camargue marshes and wetlands of the Rhône delta, which covers part of the départements of Gard and Bouches-du-Rhône. There they developed the stamina, hardiness and agility for which they are known today. Traditionally, they live in semi-feral conditions in the marshy land of the region. The Camargue horse is the traditional mount of the gardians, the Camargue riders who herd the black Camargue bulls used for courses camarguaises in southern France. This is the final photo of the triptych, but I am sharing it with you first so you can see the series as it is intended. I shot it with the help of my partner, in a cotton field growing on top of a hill. I decided to use stick on pearls as a way of attempting to camouflage into my surroundings, this is very similar to the way people with autism may camouflage in social situations- this is called Masking.

I hope that this mini series can introduce a new idea into your mental dictionary, starting a discussion on something that affects me and I'm sure many others, without it getting much mainstream attention.

This photo acts as the resolution in this three part narrative, where the character (being me in the frame) has found peace with their masking. When you come through the beginning and the conflict stages (which will be shared in photo form soon) and you can feel contentment in yourself. Even though I'm not perfectly blended into the surroundings, it's ok! Because my uniqueness is what makes me shine! It's ok to not fit in, it's ok to try to fit in as well, as certain situations are best handled through masking.

The hubby decided he wanted musicians in the house. He surprised me by buying a new guitar he has been talking about for a few months. I know he is excited to learn and play but even more so to have our boys get involved in music, starting now. Lessons for Dad start soon...
This bike has been sitting behind the shop of where I work for probably two years. Before that it roamed around the nursery unclaimed. Now left to rot away and all but forgotten, it lays here. No one claims it and no one knows who it belongs to. At one time, I'm sure, there were good intentions for using it. Like every new year, we make resolutions to better ourselves. We buy into the next fad, the next craze or even into our own delusions. That is, what I imagine happened here and now that those intentions are gone, the bike has now been discarded like some Christmas puppy.

August 8th would have been the start of the Edinburgh International Festival and The Edinburgh Fringe. As a result of the Corona virus the event was cancelled. In remembrance of the event the City of Edinburgh put on a light show at venues around the city to mark what would have been the start of the event.

realistically, i know i probably will not follow through with my resolutions. so, i will just make one: to better myself. correct me if i'm wrong, but aren't most new years resolutions pertaining to this very goal?
thank you 2009, for a great year. 2010 will hopefully be good to me, and will unfortunately end my high school career.
i'm going back to boarding school tomorrow. i'm very sad.
