This high-resolution still image is part of a video taken by several cameras as NASA’s Perseverance rover touched down on Mars on Feb. 18, 2021. A camera aboard the descent stage captured this shot. A key objective for Perseverance’s mission on Mars is astrobiology, including the search for signs of ancient microbial life. The rover will characterize the planet’s geology and past climate, pave the way for human exploration of the Red Planet, and be the first mission to collect and cache Martian rock and regolith (broken rock and dust). Subsequent NASA missions, in cooperation with ESA (the European Space Agency), would send spacecraft to Mars to collect these cached samples from the surface and return them to Earth for in-depth analysis. The Mars 2020 mission is part of a larger program that includes missions to the Moon as a way to prepare for human exploration of the Red Planet. JPL, which is managed for NASA by Caltech in Pasadena, California, built and manages operations of the Perseverance and Curiosity rovers.

This is not a declaration of a new year's resolution, but stating a desire to do more of a few things this year. I used to be a non stop reader, with a stack of books ready to choose from once I finished the last one. That hasn't happened in a few years, so my desire is to get through last years 'stack' and hopefully a few more. I also want to pick up my camera more, instead of having my phone in hand.
I'm off to a good start since I've read a few pages and have taken a photo.
Happy New Year's to you all, and no judgement if we don't fullfill those January 1st hopes and desires!
I am not a fan of winter but I live in the north and have to get over it. My last couple of years in Winnipeg I did my best to embrace winter. I tried to get to all the winter events I could every weekend. I am going to try that again this year.

This shot was captured during my last visit Masai Mara,Sept 2017 when early in the morning while driving along the game reserve we came across a pride of lioness with cubs basking in the morning sunshine under a shady bush......the cubs watched by two lioness who one can be the mother and the aunt...it's a close knit group in the lions pride.....

Saturday Self-Challenge: take a photo that represents your "New Year's Resolution".
Even though I always make resolutions, I never seem to keep them. Well, it's going to change this year!
Here are a few resolutions I've made for 2019:
1. To enjoy more time with my family
2. To exercise more (how many times have I made THAT resolution!)
3. To improve my photography skills, and...
4. To be more creative!

Nothing too exciting or eventful to report on today; it was an average day around the office that passed by without much notice.
Although the chaos of last week has passed, I still managed to find myself quite tired by the time the day came to an end.
Happily though; the bees were buzzing and made for simple photography today; I even had the wrong lens with me while I was shooting and still managed a decent insect shot.
I'm much too used to working with my 40mm and have been trying to ween myself off of it. As amazing as that lens is, I do need to venture out and practice with some of my other gear... once in a while.
Anyway, hope everyone has had a good day.

Pay me what exactly? If Fiat paper currency did not exist you would have to invent it. So the Chief Cashier, on behalf of the Governor and the Company of the Bank of England promises to pay me on demand the sum of £20... well that's nice.
I recently made some predictions for 2017 but neglected to make any resolutions. Well, here goes. If 2016 was the year of the underdog and surprises I can do something to make 2017 the year of the 'little guy'.
- I can limit the money that goes to credit card providers.
- I can favour family businesses wherever possible.
- I can eschew corporate foodservice providers.
- I can choose to patronize smaller retailers.
- I can steer clear of online retailers.
- I can buy on the high street.
- I can choose to pay cash.
If we don't shop on the high street, then we can't be surprised if it closes down or mutates to survive. I can and will choose to do these things in 2017.
